Chronicles of Forgotten Extra - Chapter 31
Chapter 31: Unresolved Debt Chapter 31: Unresolved Debt Alden had already sent the sword back to his mana core as soon as he heard someone open the door.
And now he was calming down Alice, who for some reason was very flustered, unlike her usual self.
“Young Master… the… that… duel.” Alice started speaking, her voice breaking.
“Calm down, Alice, and tell me what happened.” Alden calmed her down, his voice soothing as Alice soon started to calm down.
“Young Master Cedric had challenged you to a duel according to family tradition.” Alice spoke, her voice calmer than before.
Alden understood what the duel by family tradition meant.
In the Draven family, where strength is everything.
Disputes are settled by duels, with each party deciding the stakes for their opponents.
‘Why would that muscle-headed idiot challenge me to a duel?’ Alden couldn’t understand why Cedric would challenge him to a duel.
As far as he knew, Cedric’s personality was such that he was sure Cedric would have just barged into the room and tried to beat him rather than challenging him to the duel.
‘This looks more like the work of Seles.’ He thought coming to conclusions, ‘But why me?
What does she want?’ “And what are the stakes he decided?” Alden asked Alice curiously.
“The one who loses will forfeit their admission to Astralis Academy,” Alice responded.
“Inform him that I accept,” Alden spoke as his eyes glinted ominously, shocking Alice for a while.
She had never seen that look in her young master’s eyes before.
“But Young Master Cedric had already reached Advance Novice Rank,” she tried pursuing Alden, “And he has even awakened some special ability, according to rumours.” Alden’s eyes widened slightly as he heard about Cedric’s awakening special ability.
He didn’t know much about Cedric, as he wasn’t mentioned much in the novel, even after being the twin of the female lead.
“When’s the duel?” Alden enquired.
“The duel’s set for two days from now,” Alice answered immediately.
“Please, Young Master, you should reconsider your decision.” She pleaded with him to think his decision over.
‘So not even giving me time, huh?’ Alden thought ‘Playing dirty, are we?’ “You know, Alice, I can’t ignore the family rules.” Alden spoke, matter-of-factly looking at Alice.
“Those are the family rules after all.” “But… Young Master, I’ve heard he plans to cripple you at worst, even kill you.” Alice spoke, her voice coming louder than intended.
She clenched her fist as she didn’t understand why…
why won’t he just back away and reject this duel?
“Don’t worry Alice,” Alden said softly with a steady voice as he reassured Alice “Just trust this Young Master of yours.” Alice felt a bit reassured at his word but her worries were still there nonetheless.
She felt helpless, unable to be of any help but she decided to trust her Young Master.
_____________ Inside a Large room without much decoration within the Draven family main estate.
A beautiful girl seemingly descended from heaven sat on her chair.
She had blonde hair and shining red eyes.
She was none other than Seles.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
Who was scribbling something on her notebook.
She closed the notebook soon, stopping whatever she was writing as she leaned on her chair with yawn.
Just as she was just enjoying the small moment of break, somebody knocked on door to her room.
A woman with a maid outfit soon walked in, her face just as impassive as other maids.
She glanced at Seles sitting on her chair.
“Young Miss, it has started,” the maid said with a bow.
“Just as you had expected.” “Hahaha,” Seles laughed as even the maid who had seen her growing up from childhood was dazed by her beauty.
“So that musclehead really took the bait, huh?” “What about the rumour I told you to spread?” Seles asked, controlling her laughter.
“Yes, Miss, I had made sure it reached the maid of Young Master Alden.” The maid spoke quickly, snapping out of her daze.
“And what was his reaction?” Seles enquired curiously.
“He had accepted it, Miss.” The maid answered immediately.
“Interesting…He is very interesting.” Seles spoke, amused “Don’t you also think the same, Lina?” “Yes, Miss.” The maid Lina answered without much thought.
She had already gotten used to her lady’s mood swings.
But she felt pity for the ‘Young Master’ who had come under the radar of her lady.
She had seen closely seen what happened to those who did.
But she didn’t care much as her duty was to serve her lady and not someone else.
“You can go now, Lina,” Seles said as she dismissed her maid.
“I’ve got high hopes for you, Alden,” Seles murmured.
“You better not disappoint me.” Her smirk widened more as she continued her writing again.
__________________ In the training room within the Draven family main estate, a blonde boy with red eyes was swinging a pitch-black sword made up of shadows.
The boy was Cedric; he had a focused look on his face as he swung the sword.
His movements were swift and precise.
“Put more strength in it, Young Master.” A trainer instructed him from the side.
The instructor was Malrick, the tutor once assigned to Alden before his awakening.
Unlike when he was teaching Alden, he looked to be diligently teaching Cedric.
After swinging the sword a few more times, Cedric relaxed his shoulder as the sword in his hands vanished without a trace.
He started walking towards Malrick.
“Tell me, Malrick, do you think I’ll lose to that bastard?” Cedric asked as he stopped near Malrick.
“No, Young Master, how could you lose to him?” Malrick replied, buttering Cedric.
Cedric closed his eyes as he nodded his head with a satisfied smile.
But his smile was soon replaced with fury as he remembered ‘that’ day.
The day that bastard had punched him…and in front of so many people.
He would have killed him right there if his father hadn’t intervened.
‘But fate has given me another chance to complete what I couldn’t before.’ Cedric thought arrogantly.
With his rank at the level of Advanced Novice Rank, Cedric was confident in his victory.
But that was not all, as Cedric looked at the status window showing the description of his special ability, and his confidence was solidified even more.
========= [Special Ability] [Shadow Sword] [Effect (1/2) – The user can create a near indestructible sword made from their own shadow.
] [Effect (2/2) – The sword can momentarily vanish, reappearing to strike opponent anywhere user wills.
The longer the distance the more mana it consume] ========== Cedric had attuned his mana vessels to the family’s main mana tome, Noctis Grimoire, long before his awakening and hence awakened a shadow element-related special ability.
Although it was not as strong as what Seles had awakened.
He was sure it was enough to defeat that bastard who didn’t even have any ability.
Just as Cedric was lost in his thoughts, his personal maid walked towards him and informed him about Alden’s acceptance of the duel.
“Good…good…” He muttered as he heard the news.
“This time, I’ll end him for good.
No one humiliates me and walks away.” Cedric whispered quietly as he turned back, returning to his training, his face beaming with a wide smile.
