Chronicles of Forgotten Extra - Chapter 58
Chapter 58: Shifting Pieces?
Chapter 58: Shifting Pieces?
Alden looked at Sorin quietly.
His mind was preoccupied with many thoughts.
Sorin Valcrest Who was he?
He hadn’t heard anything about him in the book.
So he was probably an extra, but Alden was having a bad feeling about him.
He couldn’t tell why, but it felt as if Sorin was dangerous.
He didn’t really care about change as he was going to actively mess up the novel’s plot, but…this change didn’t settle well with him.
And then there was Nyx.
Alden had picked up on the minute reaction Sorin showed to her as if he knew who she was.
Who is she?
Finally, the change in Lucien.
Although it was good that he was changing, as his personality from the novel was very rigid.
But the reason for that change was unknown.
Alden didn’t like unknown elements.
He looked at Lucien, who had just taken a seat.
His eyes were too deep with affection as he looked at Seles.
‘It wasn’t supposed to be like that.’ Although Seles had approached Lucien in the novel too.
But in the novel, Lucien didn’t grow closer to her immediately.
Alden was lost in his thoughts as he heard a rigid voice calling his name.
“Alden Draven” Sorin looked at Alden.
“Do you think what I am explaining is a joke?” Unbeknownst to Alden, Sorin, who was already frustrated with Nyx’s rude behaviour, was just finding someone to release his frustration, and he just happened to be the most convenient target.
Alden straightened.
“No, sir,” Alden responded calmly.
“Then why are you not focusing?” Sorin demanded answers, his eyes narrowing.
“I’m sorry, sir.” Alden apologised for his mistake, as he didn’t want to make it worse by arguing.
A small smile appeared on Sorin’s face seeing that Alden, unlike Nyx, was respectful.
“Focus in class, okay?” Sorin’s voice softened considerably.
He liked students who were respectful.

“Yes, sir,” Alden replied.
Alden shifted his attention to class, but his mind was still racing.
__ Sorin continued his explanation.
“As I was saying before, the first month you’ll only be taught the basics and nothing more.” “In the academy, there won’t be any discrimination based on background, and no matter who you are, you will follow the rules.” Alden saw Sorin’s eyes narrowing down towards his direction.
But he was not the target…..the person sitting behind him was-Nyx.
But she didn’t react, not even acknowledging his warning.
In the academy, noble status meant nothing.
But what about outside these walls?
Anyone who offended nobles would have to pay after graduation.
So most people didn’t do anything to anger students of noble families.
‘Except some fools, obviously.’ Sorin moved on.
“I know many might already know, but on the academy island, only the use of Astra is allowed.” “You can gain Astra by performing well academically or by completing missions posted in Astralis Nexus.” “Other than that, the top ten students will be given an allowance every month.” “Any student can also buy an opportunity to challenge any students for their rank with Astra.
The amount will depend on the rank you wish to challenge.” “You can only use academy-issued weapons inside the academy to ensure fairness.” “That’s all, you can ask if you have any other questions.” Sorin finished his explanation as he looked at students ready to answer their query.
Sorin looked like a diligent person.
One who cared for his students, but Alden couldn’t shake the unpleasant feeling.
He felt as if he was missing something.
Something important, which he couldn’t point.
___ After the whole explanation, Sorin led all the students towards the weapon storage hall within the first-year building.
They soon reached their destination.
It was massive.
Enough to house thousands of people with ease.
There were already many other students gathered there wearing the same academy uniform as other first years.
‘It seems all the first years are here.’ They were looking at students from A1 with greedy eyes.
They knew.
If they defeated an A1 student, they’d gain access to better facilities.
“There are all kinds of weapons in this storage.
You are free to choose any weapons you wish,” Sorin said calmly.
There was truly a variety of weapons there.
All were nearly arranged.
Alden couldn’t even count how many types of swords there were, let alone other weapons.
He could even see some weapons, which he didn’t even recognise.
Alden could see the excited looks on the faces of students, especially students from humble backgrounds, as they looked at weapons of high quality… ‘Here comes the cold water.’ Alden already knew what was coming next.
And true to his expectations.
Sorin soon poured a bucket of cold water on excited students.
“Although the weapons are free of cost, if you damage the weapon allotted to you, you’ll have to pay a hefty sum of money.
So you better be careful using them.” “Pick your weapons quickly, and register them to your name by scanning the code in your ManaSync.” “You can go home after you choose your weapon, as there will be no class today.” With that, Sorin left.
As soon as Sorin left, a murmur broke out inside the hall.
“Do you know we were supposed to be assigned a beautiful female teacher?” Alden didn’t go immediately to choose weapons as he was interested in the conversation some students were having.
“What?
Where’d you even hear that?” “Really, one of my uncles works as faculty in an academy, and I heard this news directly from him.” “You see, the teacher who was supposed to be assigned to us vanished mysteriously a few days ago.” ‘Vanished?’ Alden heard the words clearly ‘What the heck?’ “And you know wh-” Just as Alden was listening with full focus to know more, a hand landed on his shoulder, distracting him.
“Yo bro, what are you listening to so intently?” Aziel whispered.
“Nothing,” Alden replied.
“Well then, let’s go and choose our weapons, others have already gone ahead.” “Yeah, let’s go,” Alden sighed.
He was already getting used to Aziel’s presence.
Aziel strode ahead.
They walked to the sword section.
Without any hesitation, Alden walked to the longswords.
He scanned the swords arranged there.
He didn’t care about these swords, as no matter which sword he chose, he was going to transform the Sword of Chaos into that form.
He quickly picked up a random long sword pitch black in colour, testing its weight.
Good enough.
He nodded and registered it with his ManaSync without any delay.
Aziel stood nearby.
His eyes locked onto a slick katana.
He picked it up, testing its sharpness.
“Yo bro, look at this,” he muttered, showing his katana to Alden.
“I totally look cool with it, right?” “Yeah, sure.” Alden rolled his eyes.
Alden glanced around, watching others.
He saw Nyx standing near a greatsword, her fingers resting on its hilt.
She stood still for a long moment.
Her blue eyes were unreadable.
Then, she let go.
She moved towards the daggers section, selecting a pair with curved edges.
She registered them without a word.
Lucien, on the other hand, moved differently.
His hands hovered over several weapons before settling on a spear.
He picked it up and gave it a testing spin, the motion fluid and precise.
Then there was Amyra.
She didn’t browse.
She walked straight to the wands, as if there had never been another option.
Seles and Aurelia chose a wand for themselves too.
Cecilia, however, chose a bow.
She tested the string of one, nodded, and registered it.
Zephyr didn’t select anything after looking at some gauntlets with disinterest.
He was a martial artist anyway and didn’t use weapons, so it didn’t bother him much.
Alden heaved a sigh of relief.
‘At least the weapon selection of the main cast is the same.’ ___________ After weapon selection was over.
Alden and Aziel walked to Astralis Nexus.
Where all kinds of different missions were listed to be completed.
They were there to register themselves so that they could check and accept missions directly through their ManaSync.
The missions in Astralis Nexus were of different difficulties.
Ranging from F-rank to S-rank.
Anyone could accept any mission.
But if they picked something too difficult…The academy wouldn’t be responsible for their deaths.
So students often choose the difficulty they can bear.
Students can also form a party as well to complete the mission.
And there was no restriction of year of study as even first year students could form parties with final year students.
“Bro, are you sure you don’t want to join our party?” Aziel asked “I mean, my sister is strong, so it won’t be a problem for us.” Aziel was convincing Alden to join FlameWolves, the party of his sister.
It was one of the top parties in the academy.
But Alden had no plans to join any party, as he preferred being alone.
Alden didn’t hesitate.
“No, thank you.” He responded curtly.
“Well, your loss.” Aziel sighed.
They soon arrived in front of the counter where a beautiful woman was seated.
She was the receptionist of Nexus.
“How can I help you?” She asked politely.
“I would like to register my device,” Alden replied respectfully.
“Ok, give me a moment.” She nodded and worked quickly.
Within moments, his ManaSync was linked to the database of Nexus.
“All done.” The woman gave Alden his device back.
“Thank you.” He thanked her.
Aziel had already registered himself and was just tagging along with Alden.
__ Just as Alden was going to leave, he saw a beautiful red-headed girl.
Her crimson eyes were locked on Alden.
Alden knew her-Seraphina.
His sister.
In the whole Draven family, Seraphina was the only one who treated him somewhat better.
Although she never really showed it.
But Alden knew about her.
She was the only one who swore to take revenge for Alden’s death in the novel.
There was no mention of her after his death until her own death.
She stood in front of him, her eyes scanning him with the same emotionless gaze as always.
“Hey sis, How are you?” Alden greeted her.
