Chronicles of Forgotten Extra - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Helping a Friend?
Chapter 59: Helping a Friend?
Seraphina strode through the Nexus hall.
It was as bustling as always, filled with many students, some wearing armour while some were still in academy uniform.
She wore a dark robe smeared with green blood.
She had just completed the S-Rank mission she had taken previously.
The mission was about collecting troll blood as it had a regeneration effect.
Trolls were difficult enemies to defeat as even the weakest of them were at Expert Rank.
With some mutants being in Master Rank.
Mutants were rare and not found easily.
Generally, students completed these kinds of missions in parties.
But Seraphina was different.
She liked being alone, challenging herself to limits.
Her brother Rodrick, who was in his final year, was the leader of one of the strongest parties in the academy.
He insisted she join as well, but she never did.
Although the students could accept the mission using ManaSync, they have to submit proof of completion in person.
She walked towards the reception, ignoring the many gazes directed at her.
After all, she was a second-year student and third rank within her class.
Just then….
She saw someone.
A boy with black hair.
His crimson eyes are similar to hers.
And how could they not?
He was her younger brother after all.
Just as she saw him, he also saw her.
Seraphina stood silently in front of Alden, her eyes scanning him with the same emotionless gaze as always.
But the small twitch in her fingers betrayed her calm demeanor.
“Hey sis, How are you?” Alden said in a calm voice.
‘He had changed.’ She thought, looking at Alden.
The Alden she knew wasn’t like this.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
He was gloomy and depressed.
But now he looked confident and even happy somehow.
‘What happened to him?’ She couldn’t comprehend how he had changed so much.
‘But it’s not necessarily a bad change.’ A smile threatened to appear on her face, which she suppressed… She knew how Alden was treated within the family.
But she never helped him.
There was only one reason.
‘Draven family is not for weakling’ She cared for him just as she cared for all her siblings, but that didn’t make her act on her emotions to help him.
She wanted him to grow out of it on his own.
She knew that was too much for a young kid.
But so what?
Death doesn’t check whether you are young or not.
You need to be not only strong but also have a strong mind to survive.
Hence, she never once helped him even when she saw Cedric beat him to death.
‘If he died, that simply meant he was not strong enough.’ That was how her thought process worked.
She was not hypocritical to say she couldn’t help or anything.
She could have helped, but she chose not to.
Seeing the new change in Alden made her happy.
But it changed nothing….
She still didn’t have any intention to help him or anything.
She passed by him as if he was thin air without even responding to his greetings.
__ As Seraphina was scanning him, Alden was also analysing her.
He looked at her dark-coloured clothes smeared with blood.
He immediately understood that she had directly come here after completing the mission.
‘Did she even consider changing first?’ Alden thought.
Alden didn’t feel any emotions as he looked at her.
Neither good nor bad.
Absolutely nothing.
Unlike his other siblings, Seraphina was an observer.
Just an observer.
Never an ally, never an enemy-just a silent witness to his suffering.
She did provide healing potions when Cedric’s beating went a bit extreme.
The family provided him with a monthly allowance… and it was enough for him to buy many potions.
Alice did buy many healing potions for him with that money as she was in charge of his account until now.
But those healing potions she bought were at most rare-ranked ones.
Potions higher than that rank couldn’t be bought easily and Seraphina provided such potions whenever his injuries were too high level to be healed by rare rank ones.
But that still wasn’t enough for Alden to have any emotions about her.
They were just like strangers to each other.
Just as Alden was wandering in his thoughts, Seraphina walked past him without even acknowledging him.
‘Same as always, huh?’ Alden didn’t care either.
A voice broke through his thoughts.
Alden turned to find Aziel, his ever-present headache of a friend, whispering beside him.
“Bro, Was she your sister?” “Yeah,” Alden replied.
“Well, forget about it,” Aziel spoke as he slung his hands on Alden’s shoulder.
“Let’s go and play some games.” Aziel spoke with his stupid grin, trying to light up the atmosphere.
“Yeah, let’s go.” Alden didn’t reject his offer, which made Aziel’s eyes widen with disbelief.
Aziel gapsed “Who are you?
What have you done to my bro?” “Wait, no-are you an imposter?
Is this a body double situation?” His expressions were very dramatic.
“I don’t want to go anymore.” Alden sighed with annoyance.
“WAIT, BRO, I WAS JOKING….LET’S GO IMMEDIATELY” Aziel said knowing Alden truly wouldn’t go if he joked anymore.
He dragged Alden out of Nexus hall.
_____ Days and weeks passed in blue as it has already been a month since the start of the Academy.
In this month, Alden did nothing major.
He diligently attended class and trained daily.
Except for his strength and agility stats, all other stats had reached the next level.
He was confident in having breakthroughs to initiate rank in the next few weeks.
Most of the things that were supposed to happen in the novel didn’t happen, but Alden didn’t care about that anymore and only focused on growing stronger.
As most of the things were minor changes except one.
The Amyra vs.
Seles incident which was supposed to happen in the second week of the Academy but it didn’t.
That was the event that made Lucien close to Seles in the novel and fixed the position of Amyra as villain.
Alden already had an idea as to why that hadn’t happened.
Why?
Because Seles was already close to Lucien.
Alden had his suspicions.
Seles had orchestrated that conflict to get Lucien’s attention in the novel.
But now?
He was already head over heels for her, so she didn’t need to scheme.
This was the most plausible theory Alden came up with.
He truly wanted Amyra to not be a villain, and that was not because he felt any affection for her.
But because she was a ridiculous being.
In the novel, her talent was said to be on par with Lucien’s, even with his golden finger.
‘If only she isn’t a villain, she could be a great asset to combat the demon king.’ At first he had thought it would be difficult to ‘fix her,’ but looking at the twisted plot, it didn’t seem as unlikely as before.
There was one more reason.
He was curious.
He was very much curious about her smile from that day.
No matter how much he analysed, he couldn’t come to any answers.
Unless she knew something about him.
Hence, he had already decided to keep an eye on her.
As for Nyx.
She was still completely blank for him.
She didn’t care about anything or anyone.
She didn’t talk to anyone within class, not even females, let alone males.
But Alden had picked up her gaze, scanning for something or someone within the academy.
Even thinking about both of the ladies made his head ache.
Then there was that bastard Lucien.
He was being all chummy with that b*tch Seles as if he was under some kind of spell.
Although Lucien loved her in the novel too, he was not a simp.
But now Lucien practically worshipped the ground she walked on.
Alden sighed, rubbing his temples.
Enough of that.
Alden looked around him.
He saw the vast shelves covered with books.
He was currently sitting inside the library.
Although he had knowledge of novels, that didn’t make him smart.
How would he know every small piece of knowledge?
So he was coming to the library daily to not fail his class.
Beside him on another chair was another boy peacefully snoring, leaning his head on a table and a book atop his head.
‘Is he here to sleep or study?’ Alden got up from his seat as he went towards the exit of the library, ignoring the sleeping Aziel.
He went to the reception, where an old man-the librarian-was sitting.
The old man was very grumpy and always liked to scold the students.
“Sir, a student is sleeping there instead of reading the books,” Alden told him respectfully.
“Where?” The old man stood up.
Alden pointed in the direction of Aziel, who was smiling stupidly in his sleep.
“There” ‘How could I not help my friend?’ Alden thought as he had done exactly what a good friend might do.
He didn’t want his ‘dear’ friend to fail just because he was sleeping instead of studying.
So he decided to give him a little lesson.
But Alden was a good friend, so how could he beat Aziel?
So instead he took help from an old man.
Alden’s face was plastered with devilish expressions as he looked at the fuming librarian walking towards Aziel.
The librarian gently tapped on Aziel’s.
“Hey Cecilia, so you are finally accepting my feelings….” Instead of waking, Aziel held the old man’s hand as he started mumbling something.
The librarian’s expression twisted beyond recognition as he held Aziel’s ear with his other hand and twisted it.
“Pffft.” Alden couldn’t control his laughter as he saw Aziel waking up with a scream.
His eyes alternated between me and the old man as an expression of betrayal appeared on his face.
‘Why, bro, why?’ Alden’s face remained blank.
But inside?
He was having the time of his life.
