Chronicles of Forgotten Extra - Chapter 60
Chapter 60: Whispers of Obsession Chapter 60: Whispers of Obsession Alden leaned back in his chair, flipping through the book in front of him.
His expression was calm.
His soul?
Having the time of its life.
Because right beside him, Aziel looked like he’d just been personally betrayed by the universe.
Alden stole another glance at his friend’s sulking face and barely managed to hold back his laughter.
But he failed.
“Pfft-” “Bro, it’s not funny,” Aziel glared at him.
“You betrayed me.” “What are you talking about?
I didn’t do anything.” Alden blinked, acting all innocent.
The lie came as naturally as breathing to him.
Before Aziel could launch into another round of complaints, his ManaSync buzzed.
He checked the message that had just arrived.
Aziel sighed and got up from the chair he was sitting on.
“I have to go now, bro.
See you later.” And just like that, he walked out of the library.
Well, that was a bit too abrupt.
Alden thought as he put his focus back on the book he had been reading for a while now.
The book was too thick, and its cover looked ancient.
[MYTH OF THE FORGOTTEN AGE] The title alone made the book sound ancient and mysterious.
The book talked about a missing time period in history.
An entire era was wiped clean from records.
No documents.
No firsthand accounts.
There was nothing.
Just some scattered myths and baseless theories.
According to these speculations, the Forgotten Age had been a golden era for humanity.
It was prosperous and flourishing.
It was only at the end of that age when the Vallorian Empire and the Five Great Families were founded.
Well, at that time it wasn’t an empire but just a normal kingdom.

That still raised the question-why the hell were there no records of it?
If that time was so important, there should be something left behind.
A diary.
A journal.
Hell, anything would have been fine.
But no.
Nothing remained of that time.
Not even the verbal records, except these myths.
As if everything vanished mysteriously.
The book theorised that primordial-rank beings were quite common back then.
But if so, where did they all go?
Did they all just… disappear?
Alden frowned, tapping his fingers against the book cover.
The more he thought about it, the more wrong he felt.
And the more wrong it felt, the more he wanted to dig deeper.
The novel had barely mentioned anything on this.
Just a few vague mentions.
Only that the Hero King and Demon King were from that time, but beyond that?
Nothing useful.
He took a deep breath.
There was one person who might have had answers he was looking for.
Ellara.
She had been Thaddeus’s spirit contractor and had lived through that era.
She had seen it all.
And yet, in all the time Alden had spent with her, she’d never mentioned even a single thing about it.
Not about Thaddeus.
Not about the Forgotten Age.
Not even a passing comment or a slip-up.
Why?
Was there a restriction?
Some kind of rule?
Like the Awakening Trials, where certain things just couldn’t be spoken about?
Alden’s grip tightened around the book.
Something-or someone-was hiding the truth.
…But that wasn’t his problem.
Not right now, anyway.
That was not the reason for him to check the book.
He just wanted to see if there was any mention of Celestial Throne or something in the book, but he got sidetracked by other mysteries.
One thing was clear: this world is not as simple as it was mentioned in the novel.
There was something going on.
Whatever.
‘It isn’t my job to fix this world’s plot holes.’ Alden shrugged his thoughts away as he got up from his seat to put the books back on the shelves.
He had already completed reading it, and except for these baseless speculations, there was nothing in it.
After putting the book back, Alden decided to go back to his training.
He walked towards the exit of the library, but on his way, he saw a beautiful girl with white hair and violet eyes sitting at one of the tables reading a book.
Amyra.
It was not a surprise to him, as he had seen her visit the library many times this month.
She was sitting at a table near the exit as Alden passed by her.
“Good evening.” He greeted Amyra, who didn’t even react to his greetings.
As expected.
A bitter smile appeared on his face.
Alden had been trying to talk to her since a month ago.
Not because of some personal attachment, but because she was a ridiculous asset in the fight against the Demon King.
Letting her turn into a villain was just a waste.
But she hadn’t even acknowledged his presence all this time.
Just as he was about to exit the library, he heard the melodious voice of Amyra: “Good evening.” Alden froze.
His eyes widened in disbelief as he turned around to look at her again, but she still was not even looking at him.
As if she hadn’t just broken a month-long silence like it was nothing.
Alden blinked.
Once.
Twice.
Then slowly a grin appeared across his face.
‘Well.
This is new.’ Without another word, he left the library.
__ Amyra raised her head, sending Alden away.
Her beautiful face was filled with annoyance.
‘Just wait some more time, dear.’ She had wanted to talk to him and hug him every time he spoke to her, but she held herself back.
It had to be gradual.
It had to look natural.
Otherwise, it’d be too suspicious.
Alden already knew her as cold.
Distant.
Ruthless.
If she started showing more affection towards him without any buildup, it would only have negative effects.
She pulled out a book she’d hidden beneath her other one.
The book was pink-coloured with many hearts on its cover.
[WAY TO WIN A MAN’S HEART WITHOUT BEING SEEN AS DESPERATE] She had read this book countless times and was following it quite closely.
She opened the first page as she scanned the point written there.
[Point 1.
Make the man curious about you.] This was the reason she had smiled at Alden the first time he saw her.
To make him curious about her.
Although that was only a partial reason, she truly couldn’t help but smile seeing him for the first time.
And she had been successful in it.
As of that day, she saw Alden looking at her many times.
She felt happy.
[Point 2.
Ignore Them After Attracting Their Attention.] This step was hard for her.
It took a lot of her willpower to control herself from looking at him, giving him a smile, and responding to his greetings.
But she pulled through and didn’t respond to him for a whole month.
But today?
Today, she had finally given him a small reward.
A single response.
A tiny step forward.
Because if the book was right… Now?
Now, he’d be even more curious about her.
Amyra tapped her nails against the book cover, her violet eyes narrowing.
She had held back for so long.
A whole month of pretending he didn’t exist.
Ignoring his greetings.
Not jumping at him the second he walked into the room.
It had been torture.
A necessary torture.
But now?
Now, it was time to move to the next step.
She flipped the page.
[Point 3: Give him a reason to think about you.] Amyra took a deep breath.
Oh, he was already thinking about her.
She knew it.
She had felt his stares.
It made her satisfied.
But curiosity wasn’t enough, it seems.
She needed him to need her.
Not just as an ally.
Not just as someone useful in his plans.
No, no, no…
She needed him to want her.
To crave for her presence.
To think about her even when she wasn’t there.
She grabbed the book tightly as a slow, crazed smile appeared on her face.
Yes.
It was time to push forward to the next step.
But she had to do it subtly.
Naturally.
Amyra closed the book shut.
She had an idea of what she could do.
Maybe she’d ‘accidentally’ bump into him in the training grounds.
Maybe she’d leave tiny hints, just enough to make him wonder.
After all, she knew Alden better than he himself knew.
Although some things might have changed, she knew his personality would have been the same.
And if there was one thing he couldn’t resist.
It was a mystery.
And she was going to become his favourite mystery from now on.
But before that, she had to take care of a pest.
A pest that’s been bugging her dear Alden for a while now.
She had seen a girl keeping her eyes on her Alden.
That girl never talked to him.
But Amyra wasn’t fooled.
She knew watching was worse.
It meant planning.
It meant scheming.
‘What was her name again?’ Amyra thought, recalling the background check she had performed on that girl.
Annie Veyn.
She was just a commoner.
A pathetic weakling, and she dared to eye her beloved.
Amyra couldn’t take that.
Then there was also that foul aura that covered that woman’s body she had felt.
She immediately understood the origin of that aura and moreover there was no woman with that name in her memories.
‘Another new element.’ Amyra also hated new elements, especially when they were women.
She had also been keeping an eye on Nyx, but she hadn’t done anything suspicious or kept an eye on Alden, hence, she didn’t bother doing anything about her.
And Nyx was a danger.
Even to her.
She knew she couldn’t defeat Nyx with her current strength.
‘I have to regain my powers quickly.’ But for now she was going to eliminate that weak bug-Annie.
A slow, cold smile spread on Amyra’s lips.
