Zade leaned casually against the counter, crossing his arms over his chest.

“They marked each other,” he announced for Aira, a knowing smirk on his face.

Tempest narrowed her eyes at him before her gaze shifted to me.

The laughter and joy from the kitchen felt both heartwarming and infuriating.  I was happy for them, truly, but it was hard not to feel left out.

My phone chimed, snapping me out of my spiralling thoughts.

I grabbed it from the nightstand and glanced at the screen.

Just checking in.

Did you make it back okay?  And then another text followed.  Koda: Good morning.
