Chapter 120: Chapter 119- Suspicious
There are ten seats in councils, the ten heads that run the Union Council.
These leaders change every ten years, so even if one of them fails to meet the expectations of the masses, they will eventually be replaced. The newly appointed ruler will then have the opportunity to implement improvements and address any shortcomings.
The Union Council serves as the backbone of humanity, providing assurance that any activity from the demonic side will be met with swift retaliation.
Just like how recently the report came from Drenovar about the appearance of Hellstain.
The Union Council deployed its soldiers to handle the situation. While they had no intention of interfering in the conflict between Drenovar and Eryndor, the involvement of demons necessitated their support for the nation.
However, something unexpected happened, and a demonic army, under the guidance of a Demon general, attacked Drenovar out of nowhere.
Although no civilians were harmed in the attack, hundreds of soldiers and a few Council officers fell prey to the demonic creatures.
The moment they received the message that a small army of Demonic beasts had ambushed, the council sent one of their best soldiers and an S-rank for the rescue.
It would have taken the soldier a few hours to reach Drenovar, and his presence alone would have been formidable enough to drive away the threat.
However, by the time the soldier arrived at the scene, the demonic army had vanished without a trace, and the Great Demon from the Hellstain had been reduced to ashes.
Later while investigating, it turned out that two people became the reason for Drenovar’s survival.
Two people; one expected and one not.
“It’s still unclear why Valerie Corwon was in Drenovar. And at the precise time when the Demonic army attacked.” One of the Council Heads, a man with wavy black hair and thin-framed glasses, stated.
“The king of Drenovar himself confirmed that he invited the duo to his country to discuss things about truce…but considering the second Prince’s reputation, it is highly likely that Majesty Idris was lying.” Another member, this time a woman spoke as she rested her hands on the table.
They maintain records on the noble families of every nation, as well as key individuals they must monitor. Just as they possess extensive knowledge about Valerie Corwon—who has been on their target list for some time. As an S-rank, she has already proven herself valuable enough to serve the Council.
People die to work here, and that girl rejected their offer from the front, saying she wasn’t capable of shouldering such a massive responsibility.
The council is silent until she graduates from the academy. After that, she definitely would be brought in to become a member of the council.
“They are lying but we can do nothing about it. Calling her for interrogation is needless since Valerie Corwon would repeat the same lie. And to summon her just for this would sour our relationship.” Another member voiced and several heads nodded in agreement.
They have to treat every matter relating to a high-ranking warrior very carefully.
“Then how would you explain the situation with Austin? That boy, who was assessed to be a D-rank, suddenly gets up one day and defeats a Great Demon?” The one with glasses spoke again as he picked up the report he received about Austin’s assessment.
It was hard to believe that a boy who had yet to go through his first evolution to defeat a Great Demon, who—despite being an inexperienced monster—was at least an A-rank.
Although he had the support of Drenovar’s first prince, even with that it was nearly impossible for them to defeat the Demon on their own.
And not only that, those who witnessed the battle from afar, said that Austin overwhelmed the demon at some point.
“This is suspicious. He even defeated a B-rank cadet recently to secure a position as an Elite in the tournament.” Another officer added, which added another point to make people focus on the blond young noble.
“Do you think he is involved with the other side?” Someone asked in a grave tone.
The other side in question was, naturally, the demonic side.
They have come across cases when humans, sometimes willingly and sometimes not, consume the Dark Water and get a significant boost in their magic and physical capabilities.
All the signs indicated that Austin was as well, involved with something inhumane.
“Should we bring him in for interrogation?” Someone raised the suggestion. Naturally, in front of their lie detection tool, not even a demonic human would be able to lie.
They were thinking and preparing their decisions when suddenly a soldier knocked on the door before stepping inside,

“Excuse me, Generals, but there are two urgent news the administrative department wanted to relay.”
One of the ten gestured for the soldier to speak.
The soldier began, “The first Prince of Eryndor, Aiden von Eryndor, was accused of poisoning his father, the king, and later he was killed by his brother in court.”
That elicited a look of surprise from a few while a few frowned.
If they hadn’t been talking about Austin just now, they wouldn’t have reacted so strongly.
Now, most of them were convinced that bringing Austin for interrogation was quite necessary.
“What’s the second news?” Someone asked before the soldier delivered the news which was far more shocking than the previous one,
“Madam Selner has summoned Valerie Corwon and Austin von Eryndor for questioning, a week later.”
That caused many to gasp and many had their eyes widened.
As mentioned previously, the ten members always change after a certain period. However, there is a certain member of the council who might not be a part of the board but is still as important as them.
Someone who has been an advisor of the Council Board for decades. Someone whose words they never question.
The longest serving member of the council and someone who generally doesn’t interfere with regular matters like this.
However, since she had voiced her wish, there was no one who could go against her wish.
“Proceed as commanded.”
