Chapter 228: Chapter 227- Reunion(2)
“I heard about the plan you have made. There are people who trust your strategy and have gone against their natural leader.” Selner voiced those words which didn’t surprise Austin.
By now, he has already realized that Selner sees and listens to everything happening around the world. Well, everything that is important.
That’s why, rather than surprise he shrugged, “I suggested a method to filter out the mobs so we could focus on more grave dangers. What do you think? Will it not work?”
“Predicting future…I have long lost interest in that. And even if I try to pry in your future, I won’t tell you.” The Witch who rules over time, declared with a stoic expression.
Austin shook his head dismissively, “I was just asking for your opinion. But well, you don’t have to answer.”
Selner gestured toward the chair before her, asking him to sit down
Austin was unsure about the reason but he followed her wordless demand and sat down.
Selner took a deep breath as she leaned forward and asked him, “Show me your Shard.”
Austin followed her words; summoning his dagger he extended it towards the woman.
Selner assessed it for a moment, before nodding, “You heard my words and restricted your training time. I am happy.” She smiled, her eyes reflecting the genuine elation she felt.
Austin wasn’t surprised by that reaction since, by now, he had already realized how much Selner cared about him.
Austin’s Shard faded as he heard Selner saying, “I know you are wise enough to understand this but let me spell it out for you. Austin, your soul isn’t ready to bear the burden of the other fragment yet. When I told you to stop forcing your way to a higher rank, I meant to make you realize that one’s soul doesn’t grow according to one’s body.”
She further explained, “Your Soul is not in your control. You can destroy it, yes. But you cannot force it to grow. You have to be patient with it. And with the pace you were leveling up, your soul would have crumbled even if you had advanced to the next rank.”
Austin nodded. Scratching the back of his neck, he said, “I understood that once I got down from the adrenaline rush. I was pushing myself beyond what my body is capable of.”
Selner gave a quick nod, thankful that he understood.
“Now, during the war, there might arise a chance when you find yourself in a helpless situation…at that time, I ask you not to resort to accepting the Third fragment.”
Austin’s brows knitted, “…do you mean to say….”
“As I mentioned, I haven’t looked into your future so I can’t say for sure. But this is a war, Austin. Your opponents aren’t some scrubs, so you have to take every possibility in mind. But regardless of what happens, you have to promise me that you won’t abruptly ask for your third fragment.”
Selner didn’t have to spell out what would happen if he suddenly absorbed the third fragment.
When you try to put a bucket of water in a glass, the glass breaks.
Austin didn’t respond immediately this time. And Selner understood exactly why he remained silent.
Leaning closer, she calmly stated, “You have to remember Austin…the only person who holds the most importance is you. Until you are alive this world will survive-”
Austin got up from his seat. Her words were making him think of something he didn’t want to.
Selner lowered her head and exhaled a long breath as he heard his distancing footsteps.
Well, she tried.
Austin stepped out of the room, a knitted frown on his forehead.
“Young master?” Sebastian asked, slightly worried to see his master like that.
Austin shook his head, “It’s nothing. I will just have a walk and will be back. You go ahead.”
Sebastian knew that something was worrying him, but he didn’t try to get an answer and followed his words.
Austin slowly made his way towards the small terrace of the building from where the sea was visible.
Follow new episodes on the "N0vel1st.c0m".
The soldiers had already formed a fort at the shore and were protecting every side.
Austin’s eyes drifted afar, his mind filled with hundreds of thoughts.
The enemy was approaching, and he hadn’t attained enough strength to be very helpful.
And now, Selner has plainly told him the consequences of forcible assimilation of the third fragment.
He won’t be of any help. He will just kill himself.
“I didn’t want our reunion to happen like this,”
A wave of warmth washed over him. A pair of familiar arms hugged his chest and a familiar scent overwhelmed his senses.
“Valerie…” He whispered, the name making his tongue feel the sweetness of honey.
It has been only two weeks…yet it feels like he has been lost without her.
Holding her hand he turned towards the girl.
Her bright eyes were faintly glowing, loneliness and elation reflected in them.
Her beautiful face erased all the concerns he was tormenting himself with.
Just by standing by his side, she has solved most of his problems.
“Valerie…” He called out again, bringing her hand to his face and feeling her warmth on his face.
Kissing her hand delicately, he heard her saying, “I wasn’t allowed to come today too…but I somehow made it back since I felt you were troubled.”
Austin nodded, not even thinking twice before revealing, “I am hesitant…don’t want to put you in danger.”
Opening his eyes slightly, he asked, “Is that running away from the responsibilities offer still valid?”
Valerie chuckled. How can she forget about that? She suggested that they should run away from all this mess and start a new and peaceful life.
However, things are different now.
Pressing her face against his chest, she said, “Even if we run away now, they will find us….this danger is going to consume the world unless we do something about it.”
Austin knows it as well. The Demon Lord was a danger to the world…so running away was not an option.
Hugging her tightly, he told her, “So let’s make a peaceful world and start a family, just as we promised.”
“Mm-hmm. We will.”
The battle was on the horizon. Panic and anxiety were shared by every single human at the moment.
Yet, amidst the chaos, these two felt peace as they remained confined in each other’s warmth.
