Dark Magus Returns - Chapter 1142
Chapter 1142: The Powerful Trio
Safa, Simyon, and Liam stood alone, surrounded by a tornado of dirt and debris. The magical wind barrier that had been protecting them wouldn’t last forever, and they needed to decide what to do before it faded entirely.
“Alright, so great talk with Raze and all, but now that he’s gone, as soon as this wind barrier disappears, we’re going to get hit by another one of those exploding head attacks,” Liam said, his eyes scanning the battlefield. “How far until we reach him?”
“I’m not sure,” Safa answered, pressing her fingers to her temple as she focused. She took a few careful steps forward, trying to sense their target’s location. “But if I’m being honest, the wind magic will end before I can pinpoint his exact position.”
The battlefield was enormous, chaotic. Every time Safa thought she was going in the right direction, the fight shifted, making their path unclear. It was a battle, after all—there was no guarantee their opponent would remain in one place.
If they moved too fast, they could overshoot their target and risk missing their opportunity. If they moved too slow, they could be caught in the open with no way to defend themselves.
Liam clenched his jaw, considering his options. Maybe he should have listened to Raze or one of the mages and learned a bit of magic himself.
Would the nanobots inside of him allow him to use magic? Could they even heal him from the inside, making him more resilient?
“Then it looks like we have no choice,” Liam said, patting Simyon on the shoulder. “It’s your time to shine, meat shield. You’ve been training to take powerful hits, so you’re just going to have to dive in and protect the both of us. That is what Raze said, after all.”
Simyon groaned. “He also told me not to die. And, correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t remember him saying anything about you.” He glanced up at the rapidly fading wind barrier. Soon, they would be completely exposed.
‘I don’t even know if my hardened body can take one of those hits… and there’s no trial and error here. If my head explodes, that’s it!’ Simyon thought.
Just then, Safa reached out, her hand gently guiding itself to his ear. A surge of warmth passed through him as she infused a large amount of magic into his earring.
“I’ll be here to heal you if anything happens. That magic should help reinforce your defenses. You know your item reacts differently depending on the magic placed in it,” she said.
Simyon nodded, feeling a strange sense of calm despite the tension.
“There are just two places you absolutely need to protect to avoid instant death,” she continued. Then, without hesitation, she placed her fingertip against his forehead and then moved down, tapping lightly against his chest.
Simyon’s face turned red as he felt her slender fingers brush against his skin. He swallowed hard, willing himself to focus.
“Alright… you can trust me!” Simyon declared, clenching his fists.
At that moment, the tornado of wind fully dissipated, and the battlefield came into full view.
The sight before them was nothing short of chaos. Countless demonic warriors clashed with powerful Qi, energy flashing as the two forces collided. In the distance, a massive golem in the shape of a dinosaur rampaged through the battlefield, swatting away fighters as if they were mere insects.
However, one detail stood out above all the rest. Among the fallen warriors, many had been killed in the same gruesome fashion—heads completely obliterated. The culprit behind these brutal deaths was none other than the man responsible for the exploding attacks.
“Behind me!” Simyon shouted.
“To the left!” Safa instructed.
The three of them moved quickly, sticking close together. As golems approached from ahead, Liam wasted no time. He dashed forward, his blades flashing in the light as he carved through their legs, cutting them down before they could close the distance. He wasn’t trying to kill them outright—just disabling them so they couldn’t give chase.
“Front block!” Safa shouted.
With all his might, Simyon launched himself in front of her, activating his lightning-infused hardened body. He tucked in his head and raised his forearms in a defensive stance.
A deafening bang echoed through the battlefield.
Pain seared through Simyon’s hands, and he clenched his teeth as he felt the familiar sensation of his flesh being torn apart. Pieces of his forearms had been blasted away, but his body had done its job—he had survived.
Despite the immense pain, he was still standing. The damage was roughly the size of a bullet wound, which was far better than having his head blown off entirely.
Safa had seen the attack coming. She had anticipated it being aimed at her, but she trusted in Simyon’s ability to take the hit and in her own skills to heal him afterward. Out of everyone, he was the one she believed in the most.
From a distance, the man responsible for the attack narrowed his eyes.
‘Even if he managed to block the attack in time, that should have destroyed his arms completely… yet he only suffered minor damage? Not even Pagna warriors have bodies this strong. How is he different from the others?’ Garlon thought, his curiosity piqued.

“Are we safe?” Simyon asked, still holding his arms up in a defensive stance.
“For now,” Safa answered. “He’s attacking in other directions. But if he targets us again, you need to listen carefully to what I say.”
Without hesitation, Safa guided her Lux spear over Simyon’s wounds. A warm light enveloped him, and almost instantly, his injuries vanished. It was as if he had never been hurt in the first place.
Meanwhile, Liam was far from idle. He hurled one of his swords, striking a golem directly in the head. The weapon lodged itself deep, causing the creature to collapse. With a swift motion, Liam retracted his blade back to his hand, spun around, and slashed another golem behind him.
Then, his weapons multiplied. Two, then four, then six—all moving in perfect unison, striking down enemy after enemy. His precision was unreal, each attack perfectly calculated to keep their enemies at bay. Not only was he cutting them down, but every movement disrupted them in just the right way to prevent any counterattacks.
This wasn’t just talent—this was his system at work, guiding him to the best possible outcome.
Liam smirked. “I have to say, I might be doing a better job at protecting you than you are.”
In the distance, Garlon observed everything—the impressive healing, the resilient body, and the skillful warrior. His lips curled into a grin.
“Which one of these three shall I get rid of first?” Garlon mused, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
