Dark Magus Returns - Chapter 1177
Chapter 1177: Always By Your Side
In many organizations, they had prepared for emergency situations. If the building was to catch on fire, how to defend from attacks, and even further.
However, Alter was an organization that had prided itself on its secrecy. The foundation of those working behind the scenes and its place unknown to only those that had truly known it.
The defensive measures they had in place, they felt like could never fall. Once in a while, they might have an ex-member of Alter attack out of anger.
The barrier could be used to protect the outside before a Deleter was called or someone else in the base to deal with them.
That didn’t happen too many times after Scar mainly dealt with those issues in a rather public way.
Which was why, now for the first time ever in Alter history when the barrier had fallen and part of the ceiling had been broken, there was panic among all the staff.
“Can we get the barrier up and working!”
“I think there might be a way right, it’s powered by crystals, we might need a mage to look at things.”
“What about the person outside attacking us, we need to stop them, otherwise they’re going to destroy this entire building.”
Heino, the head of the Alter base, was in the main programmers room where the most condensed number of members currently were.
Even in this panic, no one came up to him to ask what they should do. As Heino was much more of a leader that could only speak when spoken to, rather than ask questions.
Yet, when they did look at him, they saw him staring at the ground, and the two heads on the floor.
“Crap…those heads,” one of the staff said. “This has to be a warning, a threat of some kind.”
Red, who moved next to Heino, looked at the heads on the ground. Even without the system, it was easy for him to recognize who they were.
“So he got them right, Kush, and Garlon, we can assume Shay has been taken out as well then,” Red commented. He was about to say some more, or ask a particular question to Heino, but could see he was not in the state where he could answer.
His eyes, it was clear that he wasn’t present in the room, in this moment right now.
“What are you doing!” Red shouted. “Ignore the barrier, if they can take it down once, they can take it down again. Send people out there to get him. Use the items that we have handed you.
“Don’t panic and get moving!”
His voice had jump-started the Alter base into action. So used to following a certain way and path, when broken, they were just scurrying around, they needed to be given order in what to do.
However, there was one thing Red was relatively sure about. Even with the items, they wouldn’t be able to stop him, there would only be a few that could.
“Heino, do you want me to go out there, or do you want me to send the Light Faction leaders, they should be able to do something?” Red asked, but as expected, there was no answer at all.
The particular head that Heino was staring at, was Garlon’s. When looking at it, memories flashed back into Heino’s mind.
Back on Alterian, a long time ago, before the world was filled with giant skyscrapers. He was a child, running about in a large garden filled with flowers and greenery.
As he ran, he noticed a tall man in front of him, a man that looked just like Garlon.
“It’s time for your studies,” Garlon said.
“Studies, but I’ve only been outside for thirty minutes, and my head hurts just thinking about it,” the young Heino replied.
“Everyone is working hard for the future of Alterian. I know you work hard, and one day all of this effort will pay off, and I will be happy to see that day,” Garlon stated with a smile.
The memories of Heino started to shift. From a child to teenager. As a teenager, Garlon was seen by his side, and in his life.
As he got older, close to a young adult, there was a time when there was blood on Heino’s hands, in the vision he wasn’t the only one, Garlon had blood on his as well.
“I serve you,” Garlon said. “Not the Royal family, I made you that promise long ago.”

Finally, Heino had aged into quite the young man, and he was sitting in a fairly large throne. At this point and time, he was the emperor and once again the man by his side was Garlon and looked like the spitting image that he had in Pagna.
“I have to ask you something important Garlon, and you need to answer sincerely,” Heino said. “If there was a way, I could make it so you could stay by my side forever, is that something that you want?”
There was no hesitation as Garlon answered.
“I have said many times, as long as I can, I will always be by your side, and do as your ask.”
“Good,” Heino answered.
His memories started to fade to black, and as his vision returned the truth had hit him back in the face, as Heino was looking at Garlon’s head separated from its body on the ground.
“I looked into the future, I was overconfident that you would live, and you never broke that promise,” Heino commented. “You really did always stay by my side, but that promise has been broken and it’s partly my fault.”
Heino finally lifted his head, and looked at the screen which showed the Dark Magus staring ahead at the base from a distance.
“The Dark Magus, it’s no wonder you are so hated by the Grand Magus. I’m starting to understand why they resent you so much. You weren’t really an enemy of mine, but just an annoyance in the way. Now though…I will use everything I can to get rid of you, I won’t lose this fight no matter what.”
