Devilish secretary - Chapter 20
Chapter 20: Chapter 20 Alive Chapter 20: Chapter 20 Alive “We came here to befriend Lilith, and you totally blew it!
You should’ve just flashed her that ‘cute’ smile of yours,” Ava muttered, crossing her arms in frustration.
Nova blinked, looking a bit stunned.
“Wait.
So… you think I’m cute?” he asked, a bit shyly.
Ava’s hand smacked against her forehead.
“Of everything I just said, that’s what you heard?” They both froze mid-argument, eyes widening as they suddenly noticed Lilith standing nearby, watching them with an unreadable expression.
When did she get here?
“My phone,” Lilith said, her gaze casual as she held out her hand, her smile almost unreadable.
Ava and Nova gulped as she picked up her phone, giving them a small nod before turning to leave.
Lilith didn’t glance back at Ava and Nova, but inwardly, she couldn’t help finding them… cute?
It was strange, even for her.
After a long day of work, she went home, took a hot shower, and stood in front of the mirror.
Her icy blue eyes reflected back, but they looked different, almost… softened.
A blankness still lingered, yet there was a hint of something else-something she couldn’t quite place.
Lately, memories of her past life seemed to fade, slipping away like sand through her fingers.
She couldn’t remember much from before, as if the very fabric of her existence was beginning to unravel.
Blending into human life was doing something to her, and it scared her in ways she’d never admit.
Today, more than ever, she’d felt human emotions creeping into her mind.
Emotions other than anger, revenge, or detachment-the only things she’d known in her centuries-long life as a devil.
But today… she’d felt attraction, a flicker of happiness at the thought of new friends, and warmth when she thought of little Rose.
A strange spark lingered in her eyes, breaking through the hollowness with a touch of something… hopeful.
Was it a bad thing?
Or was it good?
She wasn’t sure, but ridiculously, she felt almost alive.
Like maybe, she could allow herself to experience these things, to live like an ordinary human, just this once.
Maybe this was her chance.
Maybe, she could have friends… fall in love… and finally feel the happiness she’d never known in all her lifetime.
As Lilith stared into the mirror, an old memory resurfaced, bringing with it the voice of the god she had once saved.
“Thank you for saving me, child…” the god had whispered, his voice full of warmth and weariness.

“I can see your death near… but after your death, you will be reborn.
You will have a chance to live.” She hadn’t thought much of it at the time.
Back then, she’d brushed it off, dismissing the idea of her own death and rebirth.
She’d ruled realms, controlled armies, and brought entire worlds to their knees-who could possibly imagine her as anything other than a powerful devil?
But now, here she was in this strange, fragile human form, feeling the pull of humanity seep into her.
Those words had been a promise.
A chance to live a life she’d never dared to imagine for herself.
Maybe this was her new beginning.
A life where she could let herself feel, not just for power or revenge, but for the simple things-like friendship, love, and joy.
The things she’d watched mortals enjoy for ages yet never experienced herself.
She took a deep breath, feeling a sense of acceptance settle within her.
This time, she wouldn’t waste the chance the god had given her.
*** The next day at lunch, Lilith found Nova and Ava sliding into the seats beside her once more.
She couldn’t help but enjoy their silent struggle to strike up a conversation.
They were communicating through glances, nudging each other under the table with barely concealed frustration.
Lilith watched, entertained by their silent language.
As she finished her meal, she stood up, noticing the way their faces fell.
It was almost like watching two abandoned puppies, and something in her softened.
She hadn’t expected it, but she didn’t like seeing them disappointed.
With a calm smile, she said, “We’ll meet again for lunch tomorrow, my dear friends.” She turned and walked away, resisting the urge to look back but already picturing their wide-eyed, surprised expressions in her mind.
A small, rare smile appeared on her face.
Unbeknownst to her, someone nearby had caught sight of that fleeting smile, his gaze lingering on her a little longer than usual, as if seeing something no one else could.
After the break, Lilith was called into Sebastian’s office once again.
“Have you arranged someone for the event?” he asked, his gaze fixed on her a little too intently.
His eyes lingered on hers, tracing down to her long lashes before finally settling on her lips.
The look he gave her was so piercing, it felt like he was searching for something on her face.
“Of course, sir.
I’ve arranged everything; you can rest assured,” Lilith replied confidently.
She waited for his response, feeling his gaze continue on her, as if he were resisting the urge to say something more.
Sebastian finally nodded, but there was something in his expression-almost reluctant, like he wasn’t quite done with her yet.
“May I leave, sir?” she asked, trying to ignore the strange pain she felt in her stomach, a feeling both unfamiliar and irritating.
“Yes,” he replied, his voice softer, almost absent-minded as he continued to watch her.
This was the first time someone’s gaze had felt so… intense.
She turned to leave, but that mild ache in her stomach lingered, confusing her.
She brushed off the feeling as best she could, but as she walked back to her desk, her thoughts continued to circle around it.
It was strange, and she couldn’t quite put her finger on why.
The entire day, Lilith kept her focus on work, She organized files, responded to emails, and kept everything running smoothly.
But each time she looked up, it felt like someone was watching her.
Meanwhile, Sebastian found himself distracted.
From his office, he had a clear view of the work area, and more often than not, his eyes found their way to her.
She was different from everyone else, her movements efficient yet graceful, her expression serious and unbothered.
Every now and then, she’d brush a stray lock of hair behind her ear or glance thoughtfully at her screen, utterly focused.
And each time, Sebastian felt himself drawn in, compelled to watch her longer than he meant to.
