Devilish secretary - Chapter 228
Chapter 228: Chapter 228 Helpless
“And when Lilith finds you—because she will..you’ll beg for mercy,” Ava growled. “You’ll wish it was the sharks instead.”
For a long moment, silence filled the dock.
The waves crashed louder than before.
Then—
Bria’s expression twisted into something dark, something ugly. The kind of face that had ruined lives behind closed doors.
Her smile was gone.
“You little rat!” she snapped, her voice rising like a scream wrapped in velvet.
She pointed sharply at one of the masked men.
“Loosen her ropes.”
The man looked confused. “Ma’am…?”
“Did I stutter?!” Bria barked. “Loosen her rope. Let’s see how loud her mouth is when she’s swinging over the ocean.”
Ava’s face turned pale for a second as the man stepped forward.
He bent down and began loosening the rope at her ankles.
Nova struggled beside her. “Don’t touch her! Stop—!”
“Try anything,” Bria warned him, “and I’ll let you dangle next.”
Ava glared at the old woman, lips pressed tightly together, sweat running down her temple. But even as the rope loosened and the plank creaked beneath her…she didn’t take her eyes off Bria.
Not for a second.
Because she had only one thought:
“Lilith… come fast.”
Ava’s breath hitched as the thick rope around her ankles was loosened, and her body dipped lower over the edge of the rotting dock. The old wooden plank creaked dangerously beneath her weight, swaying just slightly—but enough to remind her what waited below.
She looked down.
The dark blue sea churned beneath her, waves crashing against sharp rocks. And circling in the water—sharks. Huge, fast, hungry. Their fins sliced through the surface like blades, and their shadows moved with terrifying speed.
“Ahhh!” Ava cried out as she slipped forward slightly, her foot barely caught by what was left of the rope. Her face turned pale. “No—no, please!”
The rope burned against her skin.
She tried to move her body back, but her hands were still tightly tied behind her. Her legs dangled too close to the edge.
Nova’s eyes widened in horror.
“Ava!” he shouted, struggling against his own ropes. “Ava, hold on!”
His heart pounded so loud it almost drowned the sound of the sea. His blonde hair fell over his eyes, soaked in sweat and fear. He yanked at the rope binding him to the dock, but it was too tight, and the gunman was still pointing at them.
He looked at her and he felt helpless.
His chest hurt like something sharp was twisting inside.

“I’m right here!” he shouted again, voice cracking. “Just don’t look down!”
But Ava had already looked. And the fear in her eyes made Nova feel like he was watching his own heart break.
Grandma Bria stood a few steps back on the dock, her expensive heels tapping lightly against the old, rotten wooden boards. The sea breeze played with the loose curls of her greying hair, but her expression was anything but gentle.
She looked pleased.
Her wrinkled lips curled into a wicked smile as she watched Ava and Nova struggle, tied helplessly at the edge of the dock.
The ropes had been tied in a cruel way around their wrists and ankles, fastened tightly to the rusted metal railing of the dock, but just loose enough to let their bodies hang forward. The wooden floor beneath them was splintered and weak, the edges already cracking from the weight.
A single wave—
a strong breeze—
or even the smallest shift from either of them,
and the rotten planks could give way.
They would slip right through the gap in the railing and fall headfirst into the ocean.
Straight into the mouths of the sharks below, circling like death itself.
“Such a lovely morning for a little swim,” Bria said, sipping from a silver flask, pretending to enjoy the sea view like a tourist.
Nova was sweating, his blonde hair stuck to his forehead as he tried to stay still, trying not to shake the plank too much.
Ava’s body trembled, her arms aching from being pulled behind her back, legs slipping inch by inch toward the edge.
Bria walked a little closer, her heels clicking slowly with each step. She looked down at Ava with cold amusement. “Don’t worry, dear. I’ve made sure the sharks are well-fed… on everything but mercy.”
She chuckled, loud and proud. “But if you’re lucky, maybe they’ll take your arms first. Quick and clean.”
Then she turned toward her guard and whispered, “Loosen the rope just a little more. I want the splash to be dramatic.”
She laughed again as Ava closed her eyes in fear.
But the moment Bria looked away—
The wind changed.
And far in the distance,
tires screeched.
The real storm was on its way.
And she wore black.
Grandma Bria’s eyes sparkled the moment she saw the dark black car screech to a halt in the distance.
The door opened, and there she was.
Lilith.
She stepped out slowly, dressed in black from head to toe. Her face was cold, unreadable, and her eyes were darker than the ocean behind her. She walked with quiet power, each step steady, the wind brushing against her long dark hoodie. The air seemed to freeze around her as she moved forward, eyes locked on the nightmare in front of her.
Sir Sparkleton remained in the car as her instructions.
She walked right into the trap.
Grandma Bria clapped her hands slowly with a fake smile. “Oh my dear, sweet orphan… you came for your friends. How touching,” she said with a sharp voice coated in honey.
Lilith didn’t respond. Her eyes scanned the scene in seconds…
Ava and Nova were tied to the rusted railings, barely holding on. One wrong move, and they’d fall.
Below them, sharks sliced through the waves, hungry and fast.
Beside them, a masked man held a gun pointed directly at her.
Bria’s smile turned wicked. “You know… I’ve always loved you, Lilith,” she said in a sweet voice laced with venom. “After all, you took everything from me—my Sebby, my baby Rose, and my money. Oh, how lucky you are.”
Lilith stopped a few steps away, the breeze tugging at her hair. She tilted her head slightly.
Her voice came out soft, but cold enough to freeze bone.
“What do you want?”
Her eyes never left Bria. Not for a second.
Ava’s eyes welled with tears when she saw her. “Lilith…” she whispered, relief rushing through her.
Nova choked back emotion. “She came,” he breathed, eyes locked on Lilith like she was the last star in the night.
But Lilith didn’t look at them yet.
Not until they were safe.
