Devilish secretary - Chapter 229
Chapter 229: Chapter 229 Trap
Grandma Bria’s grin widened, the lines on her face deepening as she watched Lilith with eyes that gleamed like a snake ready to strike.
Then, with a sudden pause in her theatrics, she raised one hand and snapped her fingers.
The masked man holding the gun stepped forward, grabbing a nearby rope and yanking it tighter—causing the railing Ava was tied to creak dangerously. Nova shouted, “Hey! Don’t touch her!” struggling wildly, but the gun quickly aimed his way, silencing him.
Lilith’s expression didn’t change. Her arms stayed relaxed at her sides. But her cold gaze turned sharper, unreadable.
That’s when Bria let out a fake sigh, pretending to pout. “Oh dear, don’t look so tense. I’m not here to kill them right away,” she said sweetly. “I just want to… play with you.”
She slowly stepped toward Lilith, her fur coat dragging slightly along the dock floor. “Let’s make this fun, shall we?”
She raised a hand and pointed between Ava and Nova.
“You can only save one.”
Silence dropped like a stone.
Lilith’s eyes darkened.
“You choose, Lilith,” Bria continued, voice cheerful and cruel. “Will it be your little bestie Ava? The one with the loud mouth but loyal heart?” She giggled. “Or your golden retriever Nova, who adores you like a puppy?”
“You have sixty seconds,” Bria said, checking her watch. “Or I throw them both.”
Ava’s eyes widened in horror. “Lilith! Don’t choose—don’t listen to her!”
“No, pick her!” Nova yelled. “Pick Ava! Just…just get her out of here—!”
Lilith stood perfectly still. The wind played with her hair, but her face… was stone.
Grandma Bria smiled wider, loving the silence, the tension.
But deep inside Lilith’s mind, a plan was already forming.
Because devils don’t play fair…and queens don’t follow rules.
“50 seconds left…” Grandma Bria sang, her voice sickeningly sweet, like a lullaby laced with poison.
“48 seconds…” she continued, eyes locked on Lilith, enjoying every second of the tension.
The waves below crashed louder, the wind picked up, and Lilith’s hair flew like black silk around her face, her eyes sharp, unreadable.
“30 seconds!” Bria called again, clapping her hands like she was hosting a game show.
Ava’s breaths were shaky. Her eyes stayed on Lilith, silently pleading: Don’t choose. Don’t fall into her trap.
Nova couldn’t stop sweating. His mouth was dry, his muscles tensed so hard the ropes were burning into his skin. “Lilith…” he whispered.
But Lilith…
She didn’t move.
She didn’t blink.
And behind those stormy eyes, a fire was rising.

Nyom Brown slammed his fist down on the table.
“What the HELL is going on!?” he roared, his voice echoing across the massive, dimly lit room.
The big screen in front of him showed a warehouse going up in flames, surrounded by flashing red and blue lights.
Cops.
Sirens.
Evidence.
“That’s one of our main routes!” Nyom shouted, his face red with rage. “Even if it’s the smallest warehouse, it held the blueprint papers and contacts list! If that gets into police hands—!”
“Sir…” said the man beside him, a cold-faced bodyguard with a buzz cut, “we believe it was Sebastian Carter. His men moved silently. They knew exactly where to hit.”
Nyom’s face twisted. “That son of a bit*h,” he hissed, pacing the room like a mad dog. “All these years I raised him like trash, and now he wants to bite me back? Just because I broke him doesn’t mean he gets to break me!”
He stopped and turned toward the wall, breathing heavily.
“I should’ve killed him when he was a kid…”
“Sir,” the bodyguard said slowly, “if this continues, he’ll take every inch of your empire. One warehouse down… others are next.”
Nyom’s hands clenched into fists. “Then get ready. I want every rat watching his moves. And make sure that girl doesn’t live long enough to see him win.”
“Lilith?” the man asked.
“Yes,” Nyom growled. “If she’s the reason he’s brave now… I’ll bury her first.”
“…And make sure it looks like an accident,” Nyom hissed, pacing back and forth like a caged beast. His eyes glinted with something cruel, something calculating. Then he paused, rubbing his chin as an idea crawled into his wicked mind.
“Because…” he muttered slowly…
“And increase the damn security!” Nyom snapped, his face twisting into something ugly, almost beast-like.
His hands slammed down on the table again, making the broken chess piece bounce and fall to the floor.
“I want guards at every warehouse, every dock, every ship that carries my name!” he barked. “No more surprises! No more police showing up like rats in my basement!”
His chest heaved as he gritted his teeth.
“Double the guns. Double the bribes. And if anyone—anyone—so much as breathes near my files or shipment routes…” he leaned closer to the guard, eyes burning with rage, “make sure they disappear. Quietly.”
The guard gave a quick nod. “Yes, sir.”
Nyom wiped his face with a silk handkerchief, but it didn’t clean the bitterness from his expression. The way things were slipping from his fingers…the money, the power, the control—it made his blood boil.
“And tell the others,” he growled, “this is war now. If Sebastian Carter wants to play smart…”
He smiled coldly.
“…then let’s see how he handles when I start playing dirty.”

It was a quiet afternoon, the sun casting long golden rays through the tinted windows of Alexander’s black car as it cruised along the highway. The air inside was cool and still, almost like time had slowed.
Alexander sat in the back seat, legs crossed, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit. A soft hum of the engine was the only sound until he tapped on the tablet resting on his lap.
The news broadcast flickered to life.
“Another warehouse linked to suspected black market activity was raided this morning. Authorities say the location is possibly tied to the Brown family…”
Alexander leaned back slightly, one hand resting near his mouth, eyes locked on the screen. He didn’t smile, but the glint in his eyes said everything.
Nyom Brown.
Another piece of his filthy empire… gone.
Alexander let out a quiet breath through his nose, expression unreadable, but deep inside, his heart was coldly satisfied.
