Chapter 244: Chapter 244 Lilith childhood (2)
Rose had always believed that her own life was a little unfair. Her parents were often too busy, her grandmother always scolding her, and sometimes she felt like no one truly listened to her thoughts. But now, sitting at the same dinner table as Lilith, hearing her story so calmly spoken….it shook something inside her.

Her sister Lilith had no one. No house. No warm bed. No lunchbox filled with home-cooked food. She had begged for coins on the street and washed dishes just to survive another day. And yet, here she was sitting like royalty, smiling gently, wearing a royal blue dress with her back straight and her heart full. Rose realized that she never really understood what strength looked like… until now.

And it made her eyes sting.

She looked down at her plate, blinking fast so her tears wouldn’t fall. Her brother had protected her all her life. She never had to worry about hunger or sleeping on cold ground. She never once thought she’d need to walk those dark roads alone.

But Lilith had.

And Lilith had made it out.

Arthur Carter watched Lilith quietly. He could feel the heavy air, the silence of everyone who didn’t know what to say. But he was an old man, wise in the ways of pain and pride. He knew Lilith didn’t like pity. That kind of woman didn’t want anyone’s soft tears…she wanted respect. And so, with a warm, calm voice, he spoke.

“What kind of freelancing work you used to do, child?”

Lilith looked up, slightly surprised but grateful he changed the subject. She gave a small smile and answered, “At first? Data entry. Basic Excel and typing jobs. I borrowed a small old computer from a mechanic uncle who let me use it during the night after he closed his shop.”

Everyone listened.

“Then I learned designing,” she continued. “Simple posters, logos, social media posts. I used to walk to cyber cafes with pen drives and wait in line for hours. Made my first thousand for a birthday invitation card design.”

Arthur smiled. “And you built a life from that.”

Lilith nodded, eyes soft. “It wasn’t perfect, but it was mine.”

Across the table, Alexander looked at her the way a man looks at the most priceless jewel in the world…his Lilith, who built her own sky without asking for wings.

Arthur leaned back slightly in his chair, watching Lilith with a thoughtful expression. He had known many strong people in his life…leaders, warriors, even businessmen with steel in their veins but this girl… this woman… was something different. She had been through hell and walked through it with her head high. And now she sat at his table, not asking for anything, not demanding recognition but simply being. That was real strength.

“You know,” Arthur said, his voice calm and deep with age, “my father used to say, ‘the people who survive the storm are the ones who dance in the rain.’ I think you danced, child.”

Lilith looked up, surprised by his words.

Then she gave a tiny laugh, one that warmed the room like golden light. “I didn’t dance,” she said, her voice soft. “I ran. I stumbled. I cried. But I guess… maybe in between, I did learn to smile in the rain.”

Everyone at the table smiled. Nova nodded as if agreeing with every word. Ava was biting her lip, trying not to tear up again.

Alexander, who had been silent all this while, finally spoke. His voice was quiet—deeper than usual, a little rough like his thoughts were still catching up with his feelings. “You make it sound simple,” he said, looking straight into Lilith’s eyes, “but what you did takes strength most people can’t even imagine.”

Lilith turned to him, a soft glow in her expression. “And what about you?” she said, teasing gently. “Your life wasn’t simple either.”

He didn’t reply to that. Instead, he reached over and placed his hand lightly over hers on the table. Just a touch, but enough for her to know—I’m here. I see you. I’m proud of you.

Sir Sparkleton, who had been sitting on the floor nearby, suddenly blinked his red eyes and said, “Master Alexander’s emotional levels: 93%. Deep affection rising. Warning: Overload possible.”

Everyone laughed.

Even Lilith.

Even Arthur.

And the room, once filled with heavy truths, now glowed with quiet joy, like the soft golden light after sunset.

Some hearts were wounded, some still healing but right here, right now, surrounded by people who finally felt like home…Lilith smiled.

But something inside Lilith still stirred. She couldn’t explain it. From the very first day she woke in this world, in this body… it never felt borrowed. It was hers. As if the body had waited for her. As if the universe had always planned it this way. Even the facial features had shifted, like the world itself had molded to her true for…her original self, restored completely. Perhaps that was why she didn’t feel like an intruder. She was Lilith. In this world, in the last, in all of them.

“Haha! Lilith, don’t worry, you have us now!” Ethan suddenly laughed from across the table, trying to lighten the mood. “And hey—if my dear cold brother ever treats you wrong, you can always come to me.” He gave her a playful wink.

But his grin froze the moment he felt Alexander’s glare from beside her. A sharp wave of cold passed through the room.

Ethan stiffened.

He didn’t dare turn his head, but he could feel it.

That gaze.

Like a predator silently marking its territory.

“So scary…” Ethan mumbled under his breath, swallowing hard and immediately looking away like a guilty child.

Lilith smirked softly, amused, and nudged Alexander’s arm under the table, her eyes dancing with mischief. But she didn’t stop him. She liked it.

Rose giggled seeing Ethan’s expression. “He brought it on himself.”

The moment passed with laughter, and just like that, the mood became warm again. Light.

But deep down, Alexander’s jaw still tightened slightly.

He didn’t like jokes about Lilith leaving.

Because she wasn’t going anywhere.

Not now.

Not ever.
