Chapter 262: Chapter 262 Divine messenger
As Gray and Lilith walked slowly toward the gathering,
Sir Sparkleton, marching proudly ahead, led the way—
his red lights blinking like an excited siren.
He marched right up to the wooden platform,
where Ethan was still sitting stiffly in his tribal wedding clothes, a ridiculous flower crown slipping sideways on his head.
Sir Sparkleton stopped right in front of him, tilting his square head up dramatically, blinking his red robot eyes at Ethan.
Blink. Blink. Blink.
Ethan blinked back, stunned.
His body frozen like a statue.
“…What is happening?” he whispered to himself in shock.
But before he could move the villagers gasped.
Loud, audible gasps spread through the crowd.
Old women covered their mouths, children pointed excitedly and strong men knelt down without hesitation.
And then—
one by one, they all started bowing.
Dropping to their knees in front of Sir Sparkleton,
pressing their foreheads to the dusty ground like he was some sacred being.
Tara’s father bowed.
The village chief bowed.
Even the chickens waddled backward like they sensed something powerful.
Ethan’s mouth opened wide in pure disbelief. He looked around, wildly, helplessly.
“Wait—wait—NO—what?! Why are you bowing?!”
But the villagers ignored him, completely focused on Sir Sparkleton.
An old woman rushed forward, placing a small basket of fruits at Sir Sparkleton’s metal feet.
Another tied a flower garland around his boxy body, tears of joy in her eyes.
Sir Sparkleton, clearly very pleased, puffed up his square chest proudly.
“IMPORTANT UNIT.
VERY IMPORTANT UNIT.
APPROACH WITH GIFTS,” he announced in his robotic voice, spinning slowly.

Ethan slapped a hand over his face. This had to be a nightmare.
Meanwhile—
Gray stood at the side of the platform, frowning darkly.
His sharp eyes scanned the ridiculous scene unfolding in front of him, his jaw tight with irritation.
Lilith beside him looked equally displeased, arms folded across her chest, her black dress fluttering slightly in the breeze. Her cold beautiful face was unreadable but the slight narrowing of her eyes said enough—
she was not amused.
Neither of them looked even remotely happy to see their robot being worshiped like a god and Ethan sitting there like a lost tribal prince.
Gray’s cold gaze fixed on Ethan silently almost like asking him wordlessly, ‘Is this the circus you ran away to?!’
Lilith simply let out a slow, silent breath, her fingers tapping against her arm like she was counting seconds before she’d drag them all back by force.
Ethan, feeling both secondhand shame and total confusion,
leaned toward Sir Sparkleton and whispered sharply,
“You stupid toaster, stop encouraging them!”
Sir Sparkleton blinked his red eyes proudly and whispered back, “Mission success. Now official forest deity.”
Ethan squeezed his eyes shut in defeat.
Why did the villagers bow to Sir Sparkleton?
In their simple village life, they had never seen a robot before.
Sir Sparkleton, with his blinking red eyes, smooth silver body, and talking mechanical voice, looked to them like a spirit god — maybe a forest guardian or a heavenly being sent to bless them.
In their beliefs, anything that moves and speaks but isn’t human must be a powerful spirit or divine messenger.
So naturally, they bowed out of deep respect and fear.
As the villagers continued bowing low to Sir Sparkleton,
offering fruits, garlands, even coins and pieces of colorful cloth,
Gray’s patience finally ran out.
He stepped forward slowly—
his black shoes crushing the dry leaves underfoot, his dark suit sharp against the dusty village air, his cold presence sending a silent wave through the crowd.
Every villager stiffened, feeling the sudden drop in temperature around them.
Lilith followed just a few steps behind him, her beautiful face completely emotionless,
her dark dress flowing like the shadow of a storm.
Ethan, still standing helplessly on the platform with flowers stuck to his hair, lifted his hand weakly toward Gray like a guilty schoolboy.
“Uh… hey, buddy…” he muttered. “I can explain—”
Gray didn’t even blink.
His cold gaze swept over the bowing villagers, then landed directly on Ethan.
“Ethan Carter,” Gray said, his voice low and sharp, slicing through the air like a blade.
“You are coming with us.”
The villagers gasped.
Some of the men stood up quickly, stepping protectively between Gray and Ethan.
Tara’s father even raised his hand, blocking the way.
“You can’t take him!” he shouted. “He is blessed by the river spirits! He is one of us now!”
The women nodded fiercely, clutching Tara’s arms gently like she was precious.
Ethan’s heart sank.
“Oh no,” he whispered under his breath. “This is going downhill fast.”
Lilith’s cold eyes narrowed slightly. If Gray gave the signal, she could probably clear the entire village in two minutes.
But she waited—
Gray always preferred to try words first before using force.
Gray took another step forward, towering over the villagers calmly.
“Listen carefully,” he said, voice controlled but cold.
“He is not a spirit.
He is not immortal.
He is a human being.
And he belongs to our family.”
The villagers murmured nervously among themselves.
Some stepped back, intimidated by Gray’s sheer aura.
But Tara’s father stayed stubborn, fists clenched.
“No! They are husband and wife now! The spirits chose them!” he shouted, pointing at Tara and Ethan. “If you take him away—you’ll bring curse upon us all!”
Ethan stood there, half-dead inside, wishing he could just evaporate into thin air.
Sir Sparkleton, meanwhile, happily flashed his lights and spun in a little circle, still enjoying the worship.
Lilith, her arms crossed, looked at Gray sharply now, a silent question in her eyes—
Should I end this quietly… or loudly?
Gray gave a small shake of his head.
Not yet.
He wanted to try one last thing.
He stepped closer to the villagers, lowering his voice—
“We are not here to harm you,” he said slowly, carefully.
“But if you refuse to return Ethan Carter to us—
you will be interfering with the law of the world beyond your forest and you will be punished—not by spirits but by governments, armies, and forces you cannot even imagine.”
The villagers froze.
The word “army” clearly made them pale.
Some children started crying softly.
Tara, standing behind her father, clutched her chest tightly, her heart torn between her people and the strange life she was now tied to.
Ethan brushed the flower petals from his ridiculous outfit, then lifted both hands in a gesture of peace.
“Let’s all just… calm down,” he said weakly.
