Chapter 272: Chapter 272 Who wants your hugs!
Tara and Ethan were sleeping in different rooms.
It was only the first night after their sudden marriage, but it already felt like they were strangers living under the same roof. Tara sat quietly on the bed, her bare feet resting on the cold floor. The soft pink nightgown she wore, the one Ava Given her, felt too delicate against her skin tonight. She gently ran her fingers over the lace at the edge of the sleeve, trying to distract her mind, but it didn’t work.
She thought he would try. She really thought he would at least talk to her, maybe sit beside her… maybe say something kind. But he didn’t. Not even a word after dinner. He walked past her like she was just another wall in the house. Maybe this marriage meant nothing to him. Maybe he agreed only because he had no choice. Maybe he still loved someone else. Someone perfect. Someone who could match his world.
After all… he was famous.
People watched him. People admired him. He lived in a world of bright lights, stage shows, and fast cars.
And she… she was just a girl who used to love going to school. She was twenty. She still remembered the smell of her old notebooks. Back then, she would walk five kilometers every day with her best friend, carrying books and jokes and dreams that felt so big at the time. She always came first in class. Teachers liked her. Her world was simple. It didn’t need fame or cameras. Just peace. A little happiness. A little love.
But now… things were different.
She let out a quiet sigh and looked around the room. It was beautiful, too perfect, like a magazine photo. But it didn’t feel like hers. The wedding dress she wore yesterday was still resting over the chair. She didn’t feel like folding it. Maybe because she didn’t feel like a wife.
She lay back slowly, curling up under the blanket. The pink nightgown slipped slightly down her shoulder as she turned to face the wall. Her heart felt heavy. He didn’t even ask if she was okay.
Why did you brought me here, Ethan… if you didn’t want me?
She blinked once. Then again.
And then—there was a knock.
Soft.
Her body froze.
It came again, a little firmer.
Her breath caught in her throat. Was it him? Why was he here?
She sat up slowly, heart racing, fingers clutching the blanket.
What was he going to say?
She stood up slowly, the blanket sliding off her lap. Her heart was beating too fast, her hand shaking a little as she reached for the door handle. For a second, she hoped—really hoped—it was him. Maybe he changed his mind. Maybe he wanted to talk. Maybe…
But as the door opened, her hope quietly broke.
It was Rose.
The little girl stood there with her cheeks flushed and her hands behind her back, smiling like she’d done nothing wrong.
“Hehe… sorry,” Rose giggled, her voice soft and full of mischief. “My cat sneaked into your room from the balcony. Can I come in?”
Tara blinked. And then sighed quietly.
“Yeah… please,” she said, stepping aside.
Rose skipped inside without waiting, her small feet light against the floor as she ran straight to the balcony. “There you are, mister!” she whispered to the grumpy ball of fur hiding under the chair. The cat’s fur was puffed, his tiny eyes filled with drama, as if he’d just returned from war.
“Ohh, you’re angry now?” Rose laughed, picking him up even though he tried to resist. “You bad boy! I was just hugging you. Why did you run away scratching my hand, hmm?” she asked, gently rubbing his back.
The cat stared at her, stiff and stiff-legged, his tail twitching with pure attitude. If he could speak, he clearly would’ve shouted something rude.
Who wants your hugs! the little demon prince thought bitterly as he was once again trapped in the arms of this wild peasant human girl. His ears twitched. His pride was hurt.
Tara stood near the door, watching them.

And for the first time that evening… she smiled.
Just a small one. But real.
The pink nightgown swayed gently as she walked to the balcony, leaning against the side as Rose carried the furious cat back outside.

Everyone decided it was time to leave. Work was waiting. Life never paused for long.
Ava and Nova were the first to pack up, stuffing their bags with casual ease, like nothing had changed. But before they left, they dropped a quiet little bomb while sipping tea—“We’re together now,” Ava said, smiling calmly as if she had just mentioned the weather. Nova stood behind her, pretending not to grin. Then they left—just like that hand in hand, leaving behind raised eyebrows and shocked.
Ethan didn’t say much that morning. He simply picked up the car keys, told Tara to grab her things, and quietly drove her to his penthouse. It was closer to his new film shoot location, and he figured it made sense. He didn’t ask her if she wanted to come. But she came anyway.
The ride was long and silent.
Tara sat by the window, her chin resting on her hand, watching buildings blur past like fading dreams. She hadn’t unpacked her thoughts yet. Everything still felt unreal. A wedding, a husband, a new house, and now a high-rise penthouse that didn’t feel like home.
She didn’t know Ethan had already asked his assistant to find a good university for her nearby. He hadn’t told her. He didn’t know how. And next week, he had planned something even harder—he would take her to meet his family. But the thought made his heart twist. He had never told them he was married. Not even a hint. No one knew. And now, he had no idea what storm was waiting for him on the other side of that visit.
Tara didn’t ask questions.
She just followed quietly.
