Chapter 276: Chapter 276 Backstabber
But the way he pouted—the way his hair had fallen slightly over his eyes, and how his shirt collar was still crooked from earlier…it was ridiculous.

And annoyingly charming.

She turned her head slightly, biting back a laugh.

But Gray noticed the smile.

He stepped closer, his voice lowering.

“Admit it,” he said softly. “You were jealous.”

Lilith’s eyes sparkled, slow and dangerous.

“You’re lucky I didn’t throw her out the elevator,” she whispered, releasing his tie with a small push.

And Gray was already grinning like a man who knew exactly how to get under her skin.

They finally stepped into Nina’s ward.

The moment the door closed behind them, Lilith’s playful smirk vanished. Her gaze sharpened, and the air around her shifted. The light in her eyes turned cold, unreadable as if someone had flicked a switch inside her.

Her heels clicked gently against the floor as she walked to the hospital bed.

Nina looked up with a soft, embarrassed smile. A bandage wrapped around her head, her arm slightly elevated, her usually glowing face now pale and tired. There was a little bruise near her collarbone, and a deeper one darkening the side of her wrist. And yet she had the audacity to say—

“It’s just a light injury.”

Lilith’s eyes darkened.

Light injury?

This?

Her silence said it all.

Lilith didn’t ask again. She simply walked closer, her expression unreadable. When Nina tried to sit up straighter forcing her body to look less broken, less hurt—Lilith gently pressed a hand to her shoulder and whispered:

“No need.”

Her voice was soft. But final.

She helped her lean back carefully, adjusting the pillow with her other hand like she’d done this a hundred times. Her touch wasn’t overly warm, but it was steady. Solid. Protective. The kind of touch that let Nina know she wasn’t alone anymore.

Gray stood quietly behind them.

He watched for a moment, and then leaned close to Lilith, his voice brushing just beside her ear.

“We forgot the fruits and flowers in the car,” he said gently. “I’ll go get them. Alright?”

Lilith gave a small nod without looking at him.

Gray stepped back, hands in his pockets, and walked toward the door.

The moment he left, the room felt smaller. Still.

Lilith turned her eyes back to Nina, her voice lower now.

“Tell me everything.”

Nina hesitated for a moment, her fingers curling slightly over the edge of the bedsheet. Her pale lips parted, but no words came out at first. It took her a second to gather herself to speak not as the rising actress, not as the cheerful girl everyone admired, but as someone who had been quietly hurt by someone she once called friend.

Lilith didn’t rush her.

She simply stood there, her arms folded gently, watching Nina with those sharp eyes that could see through every lie, every silence, every mask.

Nina finally spoke.

Her voice was soft, slightly shaky.

“She wasn’t always like that… Clara. She used to be sweet. Supportive. I thought… she was my best friend.”

Lilith’s expression didn’t change, but the way her jaw clenched ever so slightly said she was already bracing for the truth.

“We met during the early shoots. She helped me with lines, shared snacks, made jokes. I used to sit with her during breaks. She always said I reminded her of someone close…” Nina paused, bitter amusement brushing her lips. “Maybe that’s why I never doubted her.”

Lilith tilted her head slightly, listening. No interruptions. No pity.

“Then things changed,” Nina continued. Her voice turned quieter. “After my role with Knox went viral… after fans started shipping us together… she started acting different.”

Lilith’s eyes narrowed. Her fingers curled slowly against her arm.

“She used to joke that I was lucky. That I got the role she wanted. I laughed it off. I thought she didn’t mean it.” Nina looked down, her hand brushing over the bandage on her wrist. “But last week, she switched out my flying harness without telling me. Said the old one was dirty. It was weaker. I noticed something felt off, but she kept distracting me with small talk.”

Lilith didn’t breathe.

Nina looked up slowly, her voice breaking.

“She smiled right before I was lifted. And when the wire snapped—I saw her standing there. Watching. She didn’t even flinch.”

Silence filled the room.

Lilith stepped back slowly and pulled the curtain halfway closed, as if to give them more privacy but it wasn’t for comfort.

It was for control.

So no one would hear what she was about to say next.

She turned to Nina, her voice cool and even.

“And no one questioned her?”

Nina shook her head.

“She cried. Said she felt guilty for not checking the harness. Everyone believed her. She’s charming, Lilith…”

Lilith’s lips pressed together.

Charming.

Sweet.

Trustworthy.

All the perfect ingredients for a quiet backstabber.

She looked down at Nina’s bruised arm…then at her tired face.

“And what about Knox?” she asked, tilting her head slightly, her tone holding a thread of quiet danger. “He didn’t do anything to that woman?”

Her brows lowered, just a little, and there was no softness in her face now.

Nina looked away for a moment.

She didn’t answer right away. Her fingers tugged lightly at the edge of the blanket, her body still too stiff, too careful.

When she finally spoke, her voice was low.

“I don’t know…”

But her eyes told a different story.

There was something in them…something quiet and heavy and unreadable. Not confusion, not sadness… something else. A flicker of hurt buried under layers of control. And maybe a little fear.

Lilith caught it instantly.

The door opened softly with the familiar click of shoes on tile.

Lilith didn’t need to look up she already knew the rhythm of that walk. Gray returned carrying a bouquet of soft white lilies and a neatly packed basket of fresh fruits, both held like they were delicate things. He walked in quietly, his presence calm, steady, always composed—even now, when Lilith’s aura was still cold like glass before a crack.

Behind him, another pair of footsteps followed.

Knox.
