Devilish secretary - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Chapter 59 Classic trick Chapter 59: Chapter 59 Classic trick She rolled her eyes dramatically, folding her arms across her chest as if her actions were perfectly justified.
Lilith, seated in the back, tilted her head slightly, her lips curling into a faint smile.
“So now you’re using me as your excuse for thievery?” Ava turned her head toward Lilith, her grin unapologetic.
“Of course, Lilith!
You’re the protagonist-or were, anyway.
Technically, I was doing you a favor by not wasting the food they served for your event.
You’re welcome.” Nova scoffed, glancing at her in the rearview mirror.
“A favor?
You practically raided the buffet.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the staff is hunting for their missing plates right now.” Ava smirked, giving an exaggerated shrug.
“Well, they should’ve kept a better watch over their stuff, then.
It’s not my fault they underestimated me.” Lilith shook her head, her smile growing.
“You’re unbelievable, Ava.” “That’s why you love me,” Ava quipped with a wink.
Nova let out a long, dramatic sigh.
“This is insane.
I’m driving two delinquents.” “Shut up, Nova,” Ava snapped again, narrowing her eyes.
“Your job is to drive.
Just drive.” Nova pouted dramatically, glancing at Ava with an exaggerated hurt expression.
“Yeah, yeah, I’m just the driver.
Nothing more.
My only purpose in life is to drive you two around like some chauffeur.” Ava didn’t miss a beat, flicking her hair stylishly over her shoulder as she leaned back in her seat.
“Exactly!
Good that you know your position.
Stick to it, Mr.
Driver.” Lilith chuckled softly, shaking her head as she watched their banter and said jokingly.
“Ava, don’t inflate his ego by calling him Mr.
Driver.
He might actually start thinking he’s important.” Nova gasped, clutching his chest in mock betrayal.
“Et tu, Lilith?
I thought you were on my side!” “She’s on the side of truth,” Ava said smugly, crossing her legs and giving him a pointed look.

“Truth?
You mean thievery,” Nova shot back, smirking.
“How about we stop and let you find your own ride with those stolen plates and buffet loot?” Ava rolled her eyes, pulling the bag of food closer to her.
“As if.
You wouldn’t survive a day without my sparkling personality keeping this group entertained.
Admit it, you love having me around.” Nova raised an eyebrow.
“Love?
That’s a strong word.” Lilith interjected with a dry laugh.
“Strong and entirely inaccurate.” Ava gasped dramatically, placing a hand over her heart.
“You two are so ungrateful!
I’m just trying to make sure we all have a proper meal after that disaster of an engagement.
You should be thanking me!” Nova and Lilith exchanged a glance through the mirror, their shared smirk saying everything.
“Fine, fine,” Nova finally said with a sigh, his lips twitching into a small grin.
“But don’t forget!
Mr.
Driver expects his tip at the end of the ride.” Ava scoffed, tossing a napkin at him from the bag.
“Here’s your tip-don’t get lost.” Lilith’s laughed loudly, a sound so rare and unexpected that it stunned both Nova and Ava into silence.
They exchanged wide-eyed glances, unsure if what they had just witnessed was real.
“What?” Lilith asked, noticing their shocked expressions.
Her brow arched as she leaned back.
Nova quickly turned his eyes back to the road, shaking his head as if to reset himself.
Ava, however, leaned forward, resting her chin on the seat in front of her, her gaze fixed on Lilith with an exaggerated dreamy expression.
“No, it’s just… you should laugh more,” Ava said with a wide grin.
“You look so beautiful when you do it.
Like, it’s almost unfair how stunning you are.” Lilith rolled her eyes, the corners of her lips twitching despite herself.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Ava.
You’ve seen me laugh before.” “Not like that,” Ava shot back, pointing a finger at her.
“That was a full-on, from the belly laugh.
It’s different.
It’s magical.
Do it again!” “Magical?” Nova muttered under his breath, glancing at Ava through the rearview mirror.
“You sound like she just turned water into wine or something.” “Exactly!” Ava declared, dramatically throwing her hands up.
“Nova gets it!” Lilith sighed, shaking her head as a small, amused smile crept back onto her face.
“You two are unbelievable.” “Maybe,” Ava said, tilting her head with a grin.
“But at least I’m honest.
Now, if you’d just laugh like that again, it’d make this stolen-food picnic ten times better.” Nova chuckled, shaking his head.
“If you keep calling it a ‘stolen-food picnic,’ don’t be surprised if the cops show up.” “Let them come,” Ava said with a dismissive wave.
“They’ll take one look at Lilith laughing and forget why they’re even there.” Lilith couldn’t help but chuckle again, her laughter softer this time but just as genuine.
“You two are impossible.” **** The Brooks family stood still in the large hall.
The air felt tense, and Ryan’s nervous pacing made it even worse.
“Grandpa,” Rayan said, breaking the silence, his voice shaky.
“What do we do now?
Lilith broke off the engagement… in front of everyone.” He ran a hand through his hair, his usual arrogance replaced by panic.
“The investors will hear about this… our image will be ruined!” Old Mr.
Brooks’s expression hardened.
His lips pressed into a thin line before he finally spoke, his tone cold.
“This wasn’t supposed to happen,” he growled.
“Lilith was never like this before.
She used to obey without question.
Why has she suddenly become so defiant?
What’s gotten into her?” Mrs.
Brooks crossed her arms tightly, her face twisting with disdain.
“She’s not defiant,” she said sharply.
“She’s playing a game, that’s all.
Women like her… they act like they’re too good for a man, but it’s only to gain more attention.” “What are you saying, Mom?” Rayan asked, pausing mid-step, his brows furrowed.
Mrs.
Brooks raised her chin, her expression one of certainty.
“I’m saying she wants you to chase her.
She’s trying to make you desperate for her.
No woman would reject you, Rayan, unless she had a motive.
This is her way of making herself feel important.” Rayan blinked, her words slowly sinking in.
“You think… she’s doing all this just to get my attention?” His voice carried a faint hope, as though he wanted to believe it.
“Exactly!” Mrs.
Brooks snapped.
“She wants you to run after her, to beg her to come back.
It’s a classic trick.” Rayan’s father, who had been silent until now, finally spoke.
“It’s possible,” he said thoughtfully, stroking his chin.
“Lilith knows how much the engagement means to us.
She’s trying to leverage that.
But we can’t let her manipulate us.
We need to stay in control.” “Stay in control?” Rayan said, his voice rising.
“She just humiliated me in front of everyone!
She’s acting like she’s the one with all the power!” Old Mr.
Brooks tapped his foot against the floor, the sound echoing through the hall.
“Calm down, Ryan,” he said firmly.
“If she wants to play games, then we’ll play along.
No one makes a fool out of our family.” Before anyone could say anything else, a man dressed in a sharp black suit walked over to them.
His face showed a mix of politeness and unease as he cleared his throat to get their attention.
“Excuse me,” he said, addressing Rayan politely.
Rayan turned to him with a scowl.
“What now?” The man hesitated before responding.
“Your reservation time has ended, sir.
We need to prepare the hall for the next event.” The color drained from Rayan’s face.
“What are you saying?
We’re still discussing an important matter!” The man offered an apologetic nod.
“I’m sorry, sir, but the next event is scheduled to start shortly.
We’ll have to ask you to vacate the premises.” Mrs.
Brooks’s mouth fell open, and Old Mr.
Brooks’s hands clenched at his sides.
The humiliation of being asked to leave at such a moment stung More deeply.
“Fine,” Rayan muttered, forcing a strained smile.
“We’re leaving.” As the Brooks family tried to gather their composure and made their way toward the exit, their faces were twisted with anger and humiliation.
As the Brooks family finally left, a voice echoed from behind, smooth and deep.
“You can leave too.” The man in the suit, still a little shaken from earlier, nodded quickly and muttered, “Yes, boss,” before hastily exiting the room.
Sebastian gray didn’t move at first.
He looked at the stage, his dark eyes scanning the decorations.
The names of Lilith and Rayan were written with flowers, hearts, and soft pastel colors, making everything look too perfect, too fake.
His jaw tightened.
He walked toward the stage, with Long stride.
The Anger made his face seem even more intimidating.
When he reached the stage, he looked at the setup one last time.
His eyes darkened, maybe out of irritation or disgust.
Without saying a word, he stepped forward and kicked Rayan’s name.
It was quick, clean, almost like a dance.
With one swift kick, the name flew across the floor.
It was nothing to him, just trash beneath his foot.
