Chapter 79: Chapter 79 Why?
Sebastian Gray woke up to soft daylight slipping through the curtains.
His eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the unfamiliar ceiling.
A strange heaviness pressed on his chest, and his mind felt foggy.
He shifted a little, feeling a dull ache spread through his body.
His brows knitted as he sat up, letting the blanket slide down.
His face stayed calm, but his eyes quietly studied the room.
Plain, simple, and definitely not his.
It took him a second to notice something else.
He was still in his suit, slightly wrinkled from sleep.
Where… am I?
Gray ran a hand over his forehead, feeling a faint ache beneath his fingers.
His memories were scattered.
He exhaled softly and got to his feet.
The cool floor under his toes pulled him back to the moment, but the confusion in his head only grew.
His eyes moved over the room, the plain furniture, the faint scent of lavender in the air.
This wasn’t his place.
His gaze stopped at the slightly open door.
Without thinking, he stepped toward it.
The place felt oddly familiar as Sebastian stepped into the hallway.
His sharp eyes scanned the surroundings, his mind grasping at fragments of recognition he couldn’t quite piece together.
Then, a figure appeared at the far end of the hall, moving toward him with calm, steady steps.
Lilith.
Her long hair fell loosely over her shoulders, and she carried a cup in her hand.
Her expression was unreadable, the same as always.
Gray’s eyes narrowed slightly, watching her approach.
She met his gaze without hesitation, lifting the cup slightly toward him.
“Sir, your coffee,” she said simply, her tone polite but wierd.
Gray took the cup, his fingers brushing lightly against hers.

His expression stayed blank, but inside, his heart pounded heavily.
He didn’t understand the situation.
He gave a small nod and brought the coffee to his lips, but the strong beat of his heart echoed louder than the silence between them.
Lately, Alexander hadn’t been sharing his memories with him.
Lilith walked away without another word, her footsteps fading down the hall.
Gray stood there for a moment, gripping the warm cup tightly as if it could somehow steady his uneven thoughts.
He took a deep breath, exhaling slowly before making his way toward the living room.
He stopped by the large windows, gazing out at the rain-soaked world beyond.
His eyes were distant, calm on the surface, but his mind felt far from it.
The quiet didn’t last long.
“Brother…” The small, familiar voice made him turn around.
Rose stood a few steps away, her wide eyes locked onto his face.
She frowned slightly, tilting her head as if something didn’t seem right.
Gray froze.
It wasn’t often he faced Rose directly.
Usually… it was Alexander handled the family matters.
Why am I here now?
Rose’s frown deepened.
“Brother?” she asked again, stepping closer, her head still tilted in confusion.
Gray’s grip on the coffee cup tightened just a little.
He forced a small smile, though it felt unnatural.
“Yeah… it’s me,” he said quietly.
Rose stared at him for a second longer, and then her eyes narrowed slightly, as if she wasn’t convinced.
Rose stepped closer, her small hand tugging at the edge of his sleeve as she peered up at him with curious eyes.
“Brother… why do you look different?” she asked softly, her brows knitting together.
Gray blinked, unsure how to respond.
He wasn’t used to being around Rose like this, not as himself.
Before he could say anything, Rose’s expression shifted, her grip on his sleeve tightening.
She looked down, fidgeting with the hem of her dress.
“I don’t want to go home,” Rose mumbled softly, her voice trembling as if even saying it out loud felt wrong.
Gray’s expression slowly faded into a blank stare.
Why?
The question echoed in his mind, but no answer followed.
His eyes flickered slightly as he tried to reach out-Alexander… Ray… Nothing.
A strange silence filled his head.
No sarcastic remarks from Ray, no calm reassurances from Alexander.
Just… emptiness.
Gary’s hand twitched slightly at his side.
“Brother…” Rose’s voice pulled him back.
Her small hands tugged gently at the sleeve of his suit, her eyes glossy with unshed tears.
She looked up at him, searching his face like he held the answers she needed.
Gray stared at her for a long moment, then let out a quiet breath.
“…Okay.” He didn’t know the full situation.
He didn’t understand why Alexander wasn’t stepping in or why Ray was silent.
Rose’s eyes lit up instantly, the tears vanishing as she smiled up at him, her grip tightening around his sleeve as if afraid he’d change his mind.
Gray glanced out the window again, the storm clouds still heavy in the sky.
I’ll figure this out later.
Sebastian Gray’s phone rang suddenly, breaking the quiet moment.
“Excuse me,” he muttered to Rose, gently pulling his sleeve from her grasp and he put his cup of coffe table.
He followed the sound to the corner of the room, where his phone lay on a table.
Picking it up, he saw Quinn’s name flashing on the screen.
“Sir,” Quinn’s voice came through as soon as he answered.
“We’ve decided to give everyone leave due to the heavy rainfall.
The forecast says the weather conditions will worsen throughout the day.” Gray turned his head toward the window, watching the sheets of rain hammer against the glass.
The sky was a dull gray, and the streets below were already half-flooded.
“Okay,” Gray replied simply, his tone unreadable.
“There’s one more thing,” Quinn continued, his voice light but efficient.
“I completed the house purchase you requested.
And as per your instructions, I had some clothes delivered to Miss Lilith’s apartment this morning.” Gray’s eyes flicked toward the side table.
His gaze settled on a neat black bag he hadn’t noticed earlier.
“I see,” he said, hanging up the call without further small talk.
Setting the phone down, he reached for the bag, unzipping it carefully.
Inside, a set of casual clothes lay neatly folded, simple but comfortable.
He lifted the shirt slightly, feeling the soft fabric between his fingers.
A faint crease formed between his brows.
The memory felt hazy, like something just out of reach.
Why didn’t Alexander share the memory?
Gray let out a quiet breath, setting the clothes neatly on the bed before heading toward the washroom.
The moment he stepped inside, the faint scent of lavender filled the air, calm and unintrusive.
His eyes drifted to the sink, where a brand-new toothbrush and toothpaste were already placed, still in their packaging.
Without thinking too much, he unwrapped them and began brushing his teeth, his movements slow and deliberate.
Afterward, he pulled off his suit jacket, letting it slide off his shoulders before neatly folding it over the counter.
Piece by piece, he removed the rest of his clothes, the cool air brushing against his skin as he stepped into the shower.
Warm water cascaded down, soaking his hair and easing the tension in his muscles.
For a moment, Gray closed his eyes, letting the sound of the water drown out the quiet thoughts circling his mind.
As he reached for the soap, he noticed it was new, untouched.
He lathered it between his hands, the faint floral scent lingering as he washed.
Everything-down to the soap, had been placed here for him.
Once finished, Gray shut off the water and grabbed a fresh towel from the rack.
He dried his hair, the towel soft against his skin, before wrapping it securely around his waist.
Steam clouded the mirror, and as he wiped a hand across it, his reflection slowly came into view.
His gaze lingered on his own face, calm but dark.
Gray ran a hand through his damp hair and stepped back into the room, water droplets trailing down his chest as he moved toward the clothes waiting for him.
Gray stepped out of the washroom, towel loosely wrapped around his waist, only to stop in his tracks.
Lilith stood in the middle of the room, arms crossed, clearly not expecting him to came out like this.
Her piercing blue eyes slowly drifted over him, lingering on the droplets of water sliding down his chest, following the sharp, defined lines of his abs.
Each drop seemed to move in slow motion, and the way her gaze traced his body felt almost like a touch.
For a brief second, neither of them said a word.
“Cough.” Lilith finally broke the silence, clearing her throat.
“Sorry,” she muttered, though she made no effort to move.
Her eyes lingered a second longer, lips curving slightly at the sight in front of her.
Gray’s gaze met hers, steady and unreadable.
There was no embarrassment in his stance, only quiet observation as if he was studying her reaction.
Lilith tilted her head, catching the way his eyes held hers, mysterious and focused, a little too focused.
“Nice body,” she remarked casually, lips tugging into a smirk.
Without waiting for a response, she turned on her heel and strolled toward the door.
Gray watched her leave, his eyes narrowing faintly as the door clicked shut behind her.
His hand instinctively brushed over his chest, wiping away the lingering droplets of water as he exhaled quietly.
