Chapter 37:The origin of the strange flute
Sensing danger, I tried to turn back, but a searing pain suddenly tore through my back—it was a silver weapon’s wound.
“Ah!”
The pain made me cry out. I couldn’t believe that a naked corpse could hide a silver weapon. I blamed myself for being careless.
When I tried to retaliate, the naked corpse, controlled by the Iron Mask Man, extended its arms and gripped my throat tightly!
“Bi Yongnuo, I told you not to be a naive fool. How could you turn your back on the enemy so stupidly? How do you think you can fight me?” the Iron Mask Man whispered eerily in my ear.
“Damn it!” I roared in anger, trying to crush his head with my hand, but then I heard him say, “Do you want to know about Li Hongwei?”
I froze, completely unprepared for him to offer information at this moment.
“Speak quickly!” I endured the pain in my back, my hand gripping his head paused.
The Iron Mask Man whispered mysteriously in my ear, “He has a message for you.”
“A message for me?” I was puzzled. Li Hongwei was the enemy who killed Zicheng’s wife. How could he know me?
“Yes, listen carefully,” the Iron Mask Man chuckled twice.
I focused intently, but the Iron Mask Man’s voice suddenly changed to a rough, hoarse tone. “Bi Yongnuo, I will repay you tenfold for what you did.”
The words were filled with an overwhelming sense of resentment.
“What? Who are you?” I asked in shock, unable to recall whose voice this was.
The Iron Mask Man reverted to his sinister tone. “Heh, I only let him convey one message, so there’s nothing more.”
As I tried to make sense of it, the Iron Mask Man suddenly exclaimed, “Oh, right, he has something else to show you.”
“What is it?” I asked, confused.
“Heh heh, watch closely. I guarantee you won’t forget it,” the Iron Mask Man said, his body beginning to tremble.
Suddenly, the surrounding corpses stirred.
I turned to see the corpses crawling towards me slowly.
The most eerie part was that each corpse emitted the same joyful laughter.
Identical, like the laughter of a baby.
These laughs triggered a memory.
I remembered four years ago, the first time I used the “Eye of Illusions.”
That day, I made a bully who tormented me see terrifying illusions, scaring him to madness.
“Do you remember me?”
The hoarse voice spoke again in my ear.
At the same time, all the crawling corpses stood up, their expressions innocent, and ran towards me!
I turned in shock to look at the naked corpse behind me, only to see it gritting its teeth. “Bi Yongnuo, I want you to regret what you did!”

The naked corpse screamed sharply, and its head exploded, splattering brain matter and blood onto my face.
The corpses around me widened their eyes and screamed piercingly. Thousands of heads exploded simultaneously, creating a macabre display of blood and gore!
I stood there, stunned, staring at the bisected corpses, unable to speak.
Still in shock, I suddenly felt excruciating pain as the corpses surged around me, grabbing me with frenzied expressions and biting down!
“Big Brother!”
As I struggled, a small hand reached through the corpses, pulling me back.
I realized it was Yan’er and quickly shook off the corpses surrounding me.
Thousands of corpses swarmed us, pressing in tightly!
I shouted and summoned the “Eye of Illusions,” my power surging.
I fought my way through the corpses, creating a bloody path. Once clear, I grabbed Yan’er and ran towards the exit.
The horrifying screams echoed behind us, but their speed was no match for mine. Soon, I had left the corpses behind.
“What on earth is happening?” I muttered, frowning.
I could never have imagined that Li Hongwei, the very bully who tormented me years ago, would reappear in my life!
Back then, I used the “Eye of Illusions” to make him see illusions of being tortured by infants, which should have driven him insane and turned him into an idiot. But from his recent words, it was clear his mind was as sharp as ever.
“This place is too dangerous to stay in. We should leave immediately,” Rahab said calmly.
I nodded, quickening my pace towards the end of the corridor.
When we reached the cylindrical tunnel leading to the surface, I noticed it had somehow widened considerably, and the ground was littered with stones.
Seeing my confusion, Rahab explained, “The stone door sealing the tunnel was too thick. Without the Devil eye to open it, I had to revert to my original form and smash it with a single kick.”
I looked up and, sure enough, saw the twinkling stars above.
At that moment, the eerie cries of the corpse horde echoed from afar. I quickly grabbed Yan’er and the others, leaping up the tunnel walls and back to the surface.
Back on the ground, the surroundings were in ruins, and the once cylindrical church was nowhere to be seen.
“It’s been too long since I reverted to my original form, so I forgot how much larger I am than this church. I accidentally destroyed it,” Rahab said indifferently, seemingly fully recovered from his earlier injuries.
I laughed and said, “No wonder you take the form of a small cat; your true form is massive.”
Rahab snorted through his nose. “Hmph, if I had reverted to my original form, Samael wouldn’t have defeated me so easily.” As Rahab spoke, the ground suddenly shook violently.
Feeling the heat rising from below, I leaped back several meters just in time to see a column of flame erupt from the tunnel entrance with a loud “boom.”
“This Satan’s Cult leader really loves fire. He always has to blow things up completely,” Rahab said coldly.
Watching the flickering flames, my emotions were in turmoil.
This trip to the Satanic headquarters had been fruitless in finding Daji and Li Hongwei, but I had unexpectedly learned that I wasn’t my mother’s biological child. Moreover, my mother, Zicheng’s wife, and I all came from the same orphanage.
Thinking of Li Hongwei, who turned out to be the bully from my past, cast a shadow over my heart.
“Big Brother, what’s wrong?” Yan’er asked softly.
I shook my head and smiled at her. This girl couldn’t find her mother, yet she was still so concerned about me.
“By the way, Rahab, where is Zicheng? Is he alright?” I asked Rahab.
“His left hand is broken. I’ve hidden him in a nearby house.”
“Did someone steal his necklace?” I asked.
“How did you know?” Rahab asked, frowning.
“Let’s talk as we walk,” I said, pulling the document from my pocket.
As we reached the main street, the sky was still dark and overcast. Fortunately, my night vision was exceptional, allowing me to navigate the streets with ease.
Following Rahab’s directions, I ran east after leaving the forest. After running for a while, Rahab had finished reading the document on my shoulder.
“It’s truly unexpected that you aren’t your mother’s biological child. It seems there must be some secrets behind that orphanage,” Rahab sighed.
“Yes, after leaving here, I plan to go to Japan to investigate the orphanage and see if I can uncover my origins. I’ll also look into the secret of that cross necklace.”
“Let’s hope the Satan’s Cult doesn’t reach the orphanage before we do,” Rahab said, looking up.
I suddenly remembered the strange flute in my pocket and quickly took it out. “Rahab, do you know the origin of this flute?”
“This… this is one of the Twelve Sacred Instruments, the ‘Spirit Flute.’ How did you get it?” Rahab’s eyes lit up upon seeing the flute, so I recounted the entire story.
“Hmm, have you heard the fairy tale of the ‘Pied Piper’?” Rahab asked after listening.
“Of course, it’s a famous fairy tale,” I replied.
The story tells of a small town in ancient Germany plagued by a rat infestation. A man in colorful clothes arrived, offering to rid the town of the rats for a fee.
Desperate, the villagers agreed to the Piper’s terms without much thought.
After sealing the deal, the Piper took out a flute and played a strange tune. Miraculously, thousands of rats appeared, gathering around the Piper.
The Piper led the rats out of the town and into a river, where they all drowned, ending the plague.
However, the townspeople reneged on their promise and refused to pay the Piper.
In anger, the Piper played his flute again, but this time, it attracted all the children in the village.
The children, as if enchanted, followed the Piper despite their parents’ attempts to stop them.
The mysterious Piper led the children away, and they were never seen again.
Reflecting on the story, I asked, “The ‘Spirit Flute’? Does it mean it can control souls?”
“Exactly,” Rahab nodded.
“No wonder it made me feel such intense desire earlier. Fortunately, Wukong didn’t use it against me,” I said.
“Yes, but that stinky monkey has improved significantly over the years. He even forced you to use ‘Hell,'” Rahab said.
“He’s indeed formidable. I had to use ninety percent of my power to subdue him. By the way, can his Devil eye ability transform at will?” I asked, recalling his troublesome transformation skills.
“Not entirely. His Devil eye is called the ‘Eye of Forms,’ and its ability is indeed transformation,” Rahab explained. “But the ‘Eye of Forms’ has a limitation: he must maintain eye contact with the person he wants to transform into for six days. In ancient times, a day had twelve hours, so six days equal seventy-two hours, which is the origin of the legend of the seventy-two transformations.”
