Chapter 58: Chapter 56: A black-robed monk
But just as I stood up to stretch my muscles, I suddenly felt the overwhelming sense of fear outside the room vanish without a trace in an instant!
Enemy?
I furrowed my brow in speculation.
Sensing something amiss outside, I immediately activated the “Eye of Illusions” for vigilance. I knew there was only one reason why the fear of the hundreds outside suddenly vanished—they had all become corpses. Only the dead know no fear.
Someone capable of instantly killing hundreds was certainly no ordinary being. Unsure if the newcomer was friend or foe, I concealed my demonic energy and silently hid behind the door to observe. However, after a while, there was no movement outside.
I cautiously moved my head to the door’s edge and peeked through the gap. The once-crowded courtyard was now empty; the people of the orphanage had vanished!
Secretly alarmed, I focused my gaze and saw a black-robed monk standing in the courtyard, holding a staff in his right hand and raising his left hand to his chest, chanting softly.
The black-robed monk appeared to be in his forties or fifties, with a resolute face and a towering stature, at least two meters tall, wearing an incongruous pair of sunglasses. Though wrapped in a black robe, his clothes were noticeably bulging, indicating a robust physique underneath.
The staff he held was peculiar, thick and flat, shining like a mirror, and taller than him when upright. It was hard to discern its purpose as a weapon.
The monk stood motionless on the spotless ground, exuding a somber and restrained aura without a hint of murderous intent. The previously bustling courtyard now echoed with his heavy chanting and occasional crow calls, creating an indescribably eerie atmosphere.
“It seems he’s the one responsible for making hundreds of people disappear suddenly.” As I pondered the monk’s origins, his chanting abruptly ceased. A strange sensation rapidly spread from my forehead.
The monk had already lifted his head, looking in my direction.
Danger.
In a flash, I grabbed Zicheng and leaped with all my might.
“Boom! Boom!”
Just as my feet left the ground, a sudden force shattered the wooden door and struck the stone wall heavily. Crouching on the rooftop, I peered through the hole and saw the room filled with smoke and debris. If I had reacted a moment slower, I might have been disemboweled.
Seeing the room’s condition, I couldn’t help but feel relieved. Amidst the smoke, I noticed a long line extending from the door to the stone wall. It seemed that this object had attacked me earlier.
Following the line, I discovered it was a long, thin iron chain with short rods every few centimeters, totaling nine sections. It must have transformed from the long, flat silver staff.
“Finally showed yourself?” The black-robed monk, having forced me to reveal myself, didn’t attack further but smiled loudly. With a shake of his right hand, the long nine-section whip quickly retracted into a staff.
I set Zicheng down and slowly stood up, smiling. “You attacked so ruthlessly. If I hadn’t shown myself, you would’ve torn down the entire house, right?”
“Heh, Bi Yongnuo, I wouldn’t need a second move to drive you out,” the monk arrogantly replied, his tone lacking the humility of a monk.
“Oh, really? By the way, how do you know my name?” I asked, smiling, but noticed I couldn’t feel his gaze. It seemed his sunglasses had some special function, like the masks of the Satanic sect’s special forces.
“I know your every move,” the monk replied, raising his left hand to his chest again.
“The hundreds of people who suddenly disappeared here, was that your doing?” I asked, dusting off my clothes.
Hearing my question, the monk’s smile vanished, and he solemnly said, “Amitabha, seeing their unbearable suffering, I ended their lives to spare them from the illusion’s torment.”
“In other words, you killed them all?” I asked, smiling.
“Yes,” the monk replied, softly chanting, “Sinful, sinful.”
“How did you make them disappear without a trace in an instant?” I asked, intrigued.
The monk smiled. “I can’t say, I can’t say!”

“Do you realize you’ve ruined my plans?” I asked, frowning. Fortunately, Zicheng’s body had recovered, or it would have been troublesome.
“Heh, the person beside you is no longer a concern. Although he only has a small amount of demonic energy left, he’s not in immediate danger,” the monk said, looking at me. “But you, though you have a lot of demonic energy, bringing hundreds into ‘Hell’ must have greatly weakened your spirit.”
“Your insight is impressive, recognizing my use of ‘Hell’,” I laughed, though inwardly surprised by the monk’s sharp eyes, able to discern both Zicheng’s demonic energy and my illusion.
The monk laughed heartily. “It wasn’t hard to guess. Their vacant eyes, ignoring their surroundings, clearly showed they were under an illusion. Their wide-open mouths with tongues curled inward suggested they feared their tongues being harmed, indicating they were in the first layer of ‘Hell,’ the Tongue Extraction.”
‘Hell’ was a rare move of Satan’s, with most victims either dying of fear or going insane, so few knew its details. Yet this monk deduced they were in the Tongue Extraction just by their appearance, proving his extraordinary background.
Though surprised by his deduction, I remained calm. “Monk, are you a demon too?”
“Whether human or demon, why be attached?” the monk replied, his robe suddenly billowing with released demonic energy.
“Under those sunglasses, you must have Devil eyes,” I said, smiling, noting the pure yet powerful demonic energy he emitted.
The monk laughed, removing his sunglasses to reveal two glowing red eyes in the night.
“A demon who knows ‘Hell’ must be at least a thousand years old,” I said, smiling. “But I didn’t expect you to willingly serve as a Satanic sect’s Bright Envoy.”
“Oh? How so?” the monk asked, putting his sunglasses away, his fierce red eyes adding to his menacing appearance.
“You’re dressed in black, bald, and look just like the Bright Envoys I’ve seen,” I said, lowering my gaze slightly to avoid direct eye contact and potential hypnosis. “And those sunglasses can block gazes, something I’ve seen in the Satanic sect’s special forces.”
“Special forces… Ah, you mean the ‘God slayers’?” the monk said after a moment. “I’ve never met them.”
I smiled. “God slayers or Buddha-slayers, your mission this time must be to kill me, right?”
“Yes, my purpose here is to kill you,” the monk replied, smiling.
“Since you know I can bring people into ‘Hell,’ you must know my identity,” I said, puzzled.
“You mean to say you’re Satan? Unfortunately, times have changed,” the monk replied disdainfully. “To be the ruler of Hell, you need to prove you’re qualified.”
“Do you think my power has diminished since my reincarnation?” I asked, stretching, knowing a fight was inevitable. Though weakened from using ‘Hell’ on hundreds, I believed I could still handle him based on his earlier demonic energy.
The monk smiled arrogantly. “Whether you’re fit or not, we’ll see if you can withstand my whip.” With that, he extended his hands from his robe, revealing a muscular upper body.
“Alright, let me face your nine-section whip,” I said, gently kicking Zicheng onto a cherry tree ten of meters away to keep him safe.
“Heh, you’re confident,” the monk sneered. “But first, let me tell you three things.”
“What things?” I asked, frowning.
“First, I won’t hold back in this fight. If you lose, I’ll take your life and the ‘Eye of Illusions’.”
“We’ll see if you can defeat me first,” I smiled. “If you lose, I won’t kill you, just make you my subordinate for ten years.”
“Heh, big talk,” the monk sneered. “Second, if you die, I’ll make sure your two friends follow you, so you won’t be lonely in the afterlife.”
Realizing he had captured Yan’er, I cursed myself for being careless. She should have come to the director’s office during my broadcast, but I had been too focused on saving Zicheng to notice.
Feigning composure, I said, “Heh, if I’m dead, their fate is out of my hands. What’s the third thing? Hurry up and say it!”
“The third thing is, you’ve guessed wrong too many times. I’m not a Bright Envoy of the Satanic sect,” the monk said, his Devil eyes looking at me arrogantly. “And this whip has eighty-one sections!” With that, he swung the staff at me.
The silver staff suddenly elongated, splitting into nine sections, each further dividing into nine thinner sections. Each section gleamed with sharp blades!
Though the eighty-one-section whip was thin, its force and speed were unmatched. As I leaped, the spot I had just stood on was shattered into countless pieces.
“Heh, though your eighty-one-section whip is powerful and fast, it’s still a bit short of hitting me,” I said, landing back on the ground with a smile.
The monk, seeing his strike miss, didn’t seem disappointed. Instead, he laughed and said, “Nice moves, but I haven’t even shown my best skills yet!”
“Heh, you boastful monk…” Just as I was about to mock him further, I suddenly felt a strange gust of wind behind me. Sensing danger, I quickly channeled energy to my legs and dodged to the side. As I leaped several meters away, I saw a massive object being dragged by the long whip, crashing down from the sky.
Focusing my gaze, I realized it was the director’s house!
“Boom!”
The house crashed down, sending a cloud of dust into the air. At that moment, the monk’s voice echoed from the front, “Heh, boy, don’t underestimate me just because my demonic energy isn’t strong. What you’ve seen is only a tenth of my power!”
I cursed inwardly but remained silent as I was now standing behind the monk.
When the house crashed, I immediately concealed my demonic energy and closed my left eye to hide the red glow of my Devil eye. Using the swirling dust as cover, I swiftly moved behind the monk.
