Chapter 62: Chapter 60: Do you know the ‘Ark’?
“Monk, I’ve been meaning to ask,” I said, looking at Cerberus, “as one of the Seven Lords of the Demon Realm, why are you the president of the Demon Slayer Association, hunting other demons?”
Cerberus didn’t answer immediately, his gaze becoming unfocused and distant.
“Rahab, have you mentioned the events from two thousand years ago to him?” Cerberus suddenly closed his eyes and asked slowly.
“I’ve mentioned a bit,” Rahab replied, sitting up straight and swaying his long tail.
Cerberus responded with a simple “Hmm,” then fell into deep thought. After a moment, he asked me, “Kid, do you know that Samael killed Satan and founded the Satan’s Cult in his name?”
“I know.”
“Hmm, Satan’s death was clearly premeditated. During the Second Heavenly War, angels often disguised themselves as humans to carry out assassinations. Because my sense of smell can detect the scent of angels, I was always by Satan’s side to prevent enemy assassinations,” Cerberus said, his eyes still closed, his voice suddenly filled with hatred. “But that bastard Kong ming predicted that if I stayed in Jerusalem, it would bring about my death. At that time, Kong ming and I were as close as brothers, and Satan trusted him completely. Without suspicion, I entrusted Satan’s safety to the other Seven Lords and left alone to avoid the danger.”
“Unexpectedly, that ungrateful bastard conspired with Samael to kill Satan. When I returned to Jerusalem, everything was already decided. My heart was filled with endless regret. I heard that Samael had founded the Satan’s Cult and recruited many demons. I wanted to confront Kong ming and Rahab, but they both disappeared. By then, the angel armies had all withdrawn, and the world was at peace. I tried to gather some non-Satan’s Cult demons to tell them about Samael’s evil deeds, hoping they would join me in avenging Satan.”
At this point, the dozens of oil lamps around us suddenly went out simultaneously, extinguished by Cerberus’s surging anger. The hall turned pitch black, and I saw a pair of green eyes filled with hatred before me.
“Who would have thought, who would have thought those demons, having lived in the human world for thousands of years, had all become cowards, saying things like, ‘Satan is dead, there’s no need to stir up trouble,’ and ‘We can’t possibly defeat three of the Seven Lords together,’ but those were just excuses to avoid action! After much effort, I found a few demons to join me, but I knew that with just a few of us, it would be impossible to eliminate the growing Satan’s Cult. In my anger, I founded the Demon Slayer Association, with only a few key positions held by demons; the rest were all humans.”
“With Satan dead and the Seven Lords scattered, the world fell into chaos again. Many demons forgot Satan’s lessons and began to indulge in human desires recklessly, causing more and more harm to humans. So, when the Demon Slayer Association was founded, many humans flocked to join. We used the name of God, attracting many believers. I told them all the demons’ weaknesses and personally trained them, making their physical and combat skills superior to ordinary humans. Even when facing demons one-on-one, they had a fair chance of winning. This gave me the leverage to fight against the Satan’s Cult.”
“Over the past two thousand years, countless wars have erupted between the two factions. Although many demons joined the Satan’s Cult, more chose to watch from the sidelines, not helping either side. Meanwhile, the Demon Slayer Association recruited far more humans than the Satan’s Cult. Although we suffered more casualties in each battle, humans have a strong reproductive ability, while demons cannot reproduce through mating. So, despite the millennia of warfare, neither side could annihilate the other.” As Cerberus spoke, his anger gradually subsided.
“And what about the demons with no allegiance?” I asked, frowning.
“Kill them all!” Cerberus said coldly. “Because they betrayed Satan.”
After pondering for a moment, I smiled and asked, “Monk, if I ultimately fail to become Satan, would you kill me too?”
“Heh heh, that’s right. I would personally take your head!” Cerberus said with a smile, but his eyes held no hint of jest.
I looked at him, smiling silently.
Only then did I fully understand the enmity between the Satan’s Cult and the Demon Slayer Association. Although I couldn’t fully grasp Cerberus’s feelings, Satan’s murder while he wasn’t there, giving Samael and others the opportunity, and the other demons’ avoidance and retreat when he sought revenge, must have filled him with regret and hatred. This pain had likely consumed his thoughts for two thousand years, leading to his extreme mindset. As for me, the reincarnation of Satan, he must have mixed feelings of joy and hatred.
“By the way, Monk, you mentioned your godsons were searching for someone this morning. Were they looking for Satan’s Cult members?” I suddenly recalled Cerberus’s earlier words.
“No, we were looking for members of the Demon Slayer Association,” Cerberus replied, then asked me, “Kid, do you know that in recent years, the Satan’s Cult has used all sorts of methods to coerce and entice demons worldwide to join them?”
“I know. There are probably fewer than ten non-Satan’s Cult demons left,” I nodded.
“Hmm, besides that, the usually arrogant and aloof Samael voluntarily gave up the position of Satan’s Cult leader to a mysterious person. Forcing demons to gather and changing leaders, the Satan’s Cult is clearly up to something,” Cerberus said, frowning. “Moreover, a few months ago, the Demon Slayer Association had a sacred relic in Jerusalem stolen by the Satan’s Cult. So, we sent a demon to infiltrate the Satan’s Cult to find out their intentions and the whereabouts of the relic. But after a few months of undercover work, the infiltrator suddenly lost contact with us upon arriving in Japan.”
Cerberus then looked at me and said, “Actually, that relic has a lot to do with you.”
I was puzzled and asked, “What is this relic? What does it have to do with me?”
“The relic is the legendary ‘Ark of the Covenant.’ It was kept in Satan’s former residence in Jerusalem,” Rahab, who had been silent, suddenly said. “Since Satan’s death, no one could move it, but now the Satan’s Cult leader has somehow taken it.”
“Damn cat, are you suspecting me?” I glared at Rahab’s cat eyes and sneered.
Rahab remained silent, but his green eyes couldn’t hide his suspicion.
Darkness swallowed Rahab’s entire body, leaving only his ghostly green eyes fixed on me, as if trying to see through my thoughts. After a moment, the green light vanished as Rahab closed his eyes. The main hall doors opened slightly, and Rahab’s voice echoed from outside.
“Little Cer, continue your story. I’ll take a walk outside,” he said, and the door shut behind him.

Silence fell, with only Yang Jian’s heavy breathing echoing in the hall.
“Heh, Rahab still believes you will become Satan,” Cerberus said, standing up and lighting an oil lamp on the long table beside the tea table. “His respect for Satan is as deep as mine. But Satan was killed before his eyes, and his regret is less than anyone else’s. He has high hopes for you, which is why he’s afraid of being disappointed again.”
“But every time he looks at me, there’s more and more doubt in his eyes,” I said, clenching my fists at the memory of his gaze.
“Anyone would have doubts. The reincarnation of Satan is no trivial matter,” Cerberus said, sitting back down and placing the oil lamp between us. “Although Satan never mentioned anything about reincarnation, logically, there should only be one.”
“I have the mark of the ‘Beast’ and can fully utilize the ‘Eye of Illusions.’ Until yesterday, I thought I was the only Satan in the world,” I said, frowning. “But when I was at the Satan’s Cult headquarters, the leader accurately drew the mark on my chest, which shocked me. Then Kong ming appeared and clearly stated that my chances of becoming Satan were extremely slim.”
“Kid, if you lose confidence in yourself, no matter how many chances you have, they’ll slip through your fingers. Besides,” the weak light flickered, illuminating Cerberus’s serious face, “Kong ming’s words can’t be fully trusted. Didn’t he deceive me into leaving Jerusalem and then conspired to kill Satan?”
“Hmm, maybe you’re right, Monk,” I said with a bitter smile.
Perhaps Kong ming, having been a demon for thousands of years, had mastered the art of lying and deceived both Rahab and me. But whenever I recalled his expression, I couldn’t help but feel he was telling the truth. What did that ancient Devil eye see? What secrets did that old man keep hidden?
Lost in thought, I pondered deeply.
“Monk,” I asked, staring at the flame in the oil lamp, “do you want me to become Satan?”
“Heh, the real Satan died two thousand years ago. Whether you or the Satan’s Cult leader becomes the second Satan doesn’t matter to me,” Cerberus said, his tiger eyes filled with authority as he looked at me with a smile. “To be honest, if it weren’t for our old friendship, I would have taken your head long ago.” As he spoke, a faint killing intent emanated from him.
I looked up, meeting his gaze, and saw his eyes were as sharp as knives.
