Chapter 81: Chapter 79: Zicheng?
Even though no one was monitoring us now, I couldn’t let my guard down. I instructed Yan’er to guide me from the ventilation duct.
Along the way, besides me, there were no other soldiers in the corridor. I kept an eye on the cameras but didn’t feel any gazes on me.
After walking for a while, a side alley appeared ahead.
“Stop, it’s just up ahead!” Yan’er suddenly called out to stop me.
I moved closer to the alley and pressed against the wall, hearing four breaths inside, two near and two far.
I gestured for Yan’er to crawl through the ventilation duct to observe the alley.
Yan’er moved silently and quickly, returning shortly to describe the situation.
It turned out that Daji’s cell was different from the others, built separately with a small corridor outside the door. At the end of the small corridor was another door, with two guards in front of each. It seemed the Satan’s Cult was particularly cautious with her.
The ventilation duct only extended to the outside of the cell, so Yan’er couldn’t get inside to notify Daji.
Judging by the heavy breathing, the four guards were ordinary people and wouldn’t be difficult to deal with.
Since this cell was for important prisoners, opening the two gates required not only the “Silver Eye” but also a password.
Although Zicheng wasn’t here to use the “Eye of Reminiscence” to see the password, I could still use the “Eye of Illusions” to intimidate the guards.
“Maybe I should pretend to be one of them and say Daji has escaped, so they’ll open the door for me… No, they also have communicators. If Daji had really escaped, it wouldn’t be me relaying the message. Hmm, I guess I’ll have to use force. I’ll kill one and capture the other to interrogate them,” I thought, planning carefully.
With a plan in mind, I quietly gathered demonic energy to move faster.
But just as I was about to turn and rush into the alley, the communicator, which had been silent, suddenly transmitted an urgent voice.
“Little nuo, don’t go in!”
The voice on the other end was Zicheng!
Zicheng?
I was deeply puzzled and stopped in my tracks but didn’t respond immediately. Having learned from past experiences, I couldn’t be sure if this was a voice mimicry trick.
The speaker told me not to move, which meant they should be able to observe my actions. However, there was no one around me, and I couldn’t feel any gaze from the surveillance cameras. I had no idea where they were.
“Little nuo, can you hear me?” The voice on the other side asked again when I didn’t respond for a while.
I lowered my voice and asked, “Zicheng?”
“It’s me, Little nuo. Don’t rush in,” he said urgently.
Although his voice sounded exactly like Zicheng’s, I decided to test him just to be sure.
“Answer me a question first,” I said. “How long did you agree to be my companion when we made our deal?”
“Ten years,” he replied without hesitation.
Hearing his immediate response, I felt it was genuine but still wanted to be sure. “Do you remember the first thing you said to me?” I asked.
There was a moment of silence before he replied heavily, ” ‘Let me die.’ ”
I knew the silence was because he remembered the pain of losing his wife. With no more doubts, I knew it was Zicheng.

I gestured to Yan’er to stay put and then walked a bit away to prevent the guards from hearing my conversation.
“Zicheng, where exactly are you?” I asked, pressing the microphone.
“I think I’m in the central control room of this prison.”
“Central control room?” I asked. “But why can’t I sense anything when you’re watching me?”
“Can’t sense… Ah! It might be because I’m wearing one of their strange helmets,” Zicheng said.
These helmets could indeed block the wearer’s gaze. When I encountered the ‘Killing God’ squad at the Satan Cult’s Hong Kong branch, I couldn’t use my Devil eye on them either.
“Aren’t there any guards in the control room?” I asked, frowning.
“There were, but… but I killed them all,” Zicheng said, sounding a bit guilty
“Hmm, how did you end up there?”
Knowing Zicheng wasn’t used to killing, I tried to change the subject. Unexpectedly, he said, “I was imprisoned earlier, but someone rescued me.”
I was surprised and asked, “Who set you free?”
“He… he’s an old friend of mine,” Zicheng said, then quickly changed the topic. “Let’s not talk about that now. Little nuo, you want to rescue the woman in the cell, right?”
“Yes, that’s Daji,” I said.
This was the Satan Cult’s secret base, so it was strange that someone would rescue him. Although I was curious about the identity of this “friend,” I knew Zicheng wouldn’t bring it up if he meant harm, so I decided to ask later.
“Actually, I told you not to rush in because the design of those two gates is a bit peculiar.”
“What’s peculiar about it?”
Zicheng explained, “I looked into the control room supervisor’s memory and found that although the two gates can be opened with the ‘Silver Eye’ and a specific password, if the heartbeats of the four guards are even slightly abnormal, the gates will automatically lock and won’t unlock until their heartbeats return to normal.”
“Oh, that’s quite troublesome.” Listening to Zicheng’s explanation, my frown deepened.
My sudden appearance would undoubtedly affect their emotions, let alone using the “Eye of Illusions” to stimulate them. The person who designed this gate put a lot of thought into it.
“Do they change shifts?” I asked.
“They do, but all four guards change at once because the heart rate monitors have different standards,” Zicheng said.
“In other words, killing them would be pointless,” I said, rubbing my chin.
I fell silent, trying to think of a solution. After a moment, Zicheng suddenly said, “Actually, it’s not impossible to get in.”
“What do you mean?”
“The central control room can directly open the two gates, but if the guards’ heartbeats are abnormal, the gates will immediately lock,” Zicheng said.
“You mean I should rush in the moment the gates open?” Zicheng’s words made me see a glimmer of hope.
“Yes, I don’t know how long that window will last, but it’s the only way to get in.”
“But once I’m in, I can’t get out, right?” I asked.
“It’s not impossible, but you’ll have to wait until their heartbeats return to normal before I can open the gates again.”
“That would take too much time and would definitely alert others. I’ll have to take out the guards when I go in,” I thought for a moment and suddenly asked, “Do you know the ventilation duct routes in this prison?”
“Ventilation ducts? Let me see… Yes, I do! What are you planning?”
I didn’t answer and continued, “Is there a junction between the duct I’m under and the one above Daji’s cell?”
After a moment, Zicheng told me the approximate location of the junction.
“Good enough,” I said, formulating a plan. “After I rescue Daji, we’ll escape through the ventilation ducts. Yan’er will go to that junction first, and you and your friend can get her out. We’ll meet there.”
Zicheng thought for a moment and asked, “But how will you and Daji get into the ducts? They’re only big enough for a child.”
“Don’t worry, I have a way,” I said.
Hearing my assurance, Zicheng didn’t question further.
I thought of Rahab’s uncertain whereabouts and asked, “By the way, have you seen Rahab?”
“No,” Zicheng said after a moment.
“Hmm, he might not be in his cat form now,” I said, giving a brief description of Rahab’s true form.
“A sphinx…?” Zicheng said, then suddenly fell silent.
“What’s wrong?” I noticed the change in his tone.
“I found him, but his condition is…” Zicheng trailed off.
“I understand. Just note his location,” I interrupted Zicheng, knowing Rahab’s situation must be dire. I needed to save him as soon as possible.
I quietly explained the plan and route to Yan’er. Although she wanted to come with me, she agreed reluctantly.
“Big Brother, you must rescue Mom,” Yan’er said softly before disappearing into the darkness.
After watching her leave, I returned to the alley to prepare.
“Little nuo, I’ll count to five and then press the switch. Rush in at that moment,” Zicheng said through the earpiece. I tapped the microphone lightly to indicate I understood.
Soon, Zicheng began the countdown.
“5…”
His voice echoed in my ears as I channeled my demonic energy, adjusting my body to its optimal state.
“4…”
I gripped four silver nails between my fingers
“3…”
I crouched down, focusing my strength in my legs.
“2…”
I took a deep breath.
“1!”
I immediately darted into the alley!
