Chapter 87: Chapter 85:Balcony dialogue
The sky remained dark and bleak.
The night without moonlight was exceptionally quiet.
Even the occasional cawing of crows couldn’t break the heavy sense of solitude.
A cold wind blew, and countless raindrops gently splashed on my face.
While Zicheng went to take a bath, I leaned alone on the balcony railing, watching the empty street.
I recalled his words from earlier.
He said he was tired.
His love for his deceased wife and his hatred for Li Hongwei had been Zicheng’s driving forces.
For the past ten days, he had followed us, enduring rigorous death training without complaint, fueled by his growing hatred.
But the revelation of the dean’s true nature and the lie about his wife being violated had shattered his heart.
The kind old man he saw as a father-in-law turned out to be a lecherous wolf; and his wife was not the pure and innocent virgin he had believed.
I had intended to use his wife’s lie to ignite Zicheng’s anger and drive for revenge, but it backfired, leaving him disheartened, which was beyond my expectations.
“Does the young master have something on his mind?” A gentle voice sounded softly beside me.
Before I could turn around, a delicate fragrance wafted over, igniting a fire in my chest as I inhaled it.
Turning around, I saw Daji, now dressed in clean clothes, standing on the neighboring balcony, smiling at me.
“Isn’t the senior asleep yet?” I asked.
“I’ve lived for so many years, and although I don’t practice diligently, my internal energy runs naturally. Sleep is optional for me,” Daji said with a smile, gently tucking her windblown hair behind her ear.
“You are right,” I smiled and sighed, “That stupid cat didn’t sleep much either.”
“Are you worried about Rahab’s safety?” Daji slowly walked closer.
“You guessed correctly,” I replied, hiding the other half of my worries.
At this moment, Daji suddenly dropped her usual smile and said seriously, “Forgive my rudeness, but there’s something I want to say. I wonder if the young master wants to hear it?”
“Hmm? Please go ahead,” I said.
“I feel that the young master relies a bit too much on Rahab and lacks decisiveness,” Daji said. “Although Rahab is both a mentor and a friend, a companion through life and death, and it’s natural to worry about him, the young master should focus more on future plans. After all, there will likely be many challenges you will have to face alone.”
I smiled bitterly, “It’s not that I don’t want to try my best, but I’ve only been a demon for four years. Compared to demons who have practiced for over a thousand years, I lack experience, wisdom, and combat skills.”
“To have reached this level in just four years is already remarkable for an ordinary demon,” Daji said, smiling. “But as the ‘King of Hell,’ it’s far from enough.”
Hearing Daji’s words, I was immediately surprised and asked, “Senior! You know I’m the reincarnation of Satan?”
“I do,” Daji smiled. “There’s no need to be so surprised.”
Rahab and my master had kept my identity as Satan’s reincarnation a strict secret until I first revealed it to the Satan’s Cult in Florence. Later, Rahab told Cerberus, and the Satan’s Cult leader had known for a long time.
Even so, Daji shouldn’t have known this secret.

Suppressing my surprise, I asked seriously, “May I ask how you found out?”
“Do you remember when Rahab visited me in Hong Kong?” Daji said. “That night, he persuaded me for a long time to help you unify the demon world again. When I refused, he eventually told me a secret.”
“This secret,” I guessed, “is my true identity?”
“Yes, that the young master is the reincarnation of Satan!” Daji smiled.
“So, Rahab’s brilliant plan was this,” I sneered. “I thought that stupid cat had something more impressive up his sleeve.”
“Don’t say that. Rahab’s words did move me,” Daji smiled. “After all, I was also captivated by Satan’s charm back then. Otherwise, why would I shamelessly run for the Seven Lords?”
I recalled that after Rahab met with Daji, he said she would consider it for a week. Now that Rahab was in the hands of the Satan’s Cult, if I could enlist Daji, she would be a strong ally.
Thinking of this, I quickly asked, “So, what have you decided? The Satan’s Cult is powerful now, and given their ways, even if you join them, you might not be treated well.”
“You are right, but with the Demon Slayer Association also siding with them, it will be even more difficult for you to overthrow them,” Daji sighed.
“Indeed. With only my strength, it’s hard to accomplish anything,” I said with a bitter smile.
“So, although I want to help you succeed, this path is very difficult,” Daji sighed.
Her words left me feeling disappointed.
But then she saw my disappointment and suddenly smiled, saying, “I was planning to say that.”
Her words confused me, and I couldn’t help but frown and ask, “What do you mean, senior?”
Instead of answering, Daji turned to look at the bedroom and asked, “Do you like Yan’er?”
“I don’t know if it’s love, but when I’m with her, I naturally feel relaxed. We always have endless things to talk about, and when we’re apart, I’m always worried about her safety,” I said honestly.
Daji listened, her eyes gazing at me with a soft glow. After hearing my words, she sighed and smiled bitterly, “That’s enough, that’s enough. Your feelings for Yan’er are already a thousand times better than his for me.”
When Daji mentioned “him,” her tone was more melancholic than usual, and her voice trembled slightly.
Seeing this, I cautiously asked, “Are you referring to Yan’er’s father?”
Daji didn’t answer but lowered her head in silence for a moment. After a long pause, she looked up, forcing a smile, “Forget it, let’s not talk about him. I don’t believe in eternal promises. As long as you have Yan’er in your heart, even for a day or half a day, it’s enough.”
Daji had spent her life using emotions as a weapon, manipulating countless emperors and heroes. For her to say such heartless words now showed how deeply “he” had hurt her.
“Although I can’t promise her anything, after all we’ve been through, Yan’er holds a significant place in my heart,” I said with a smile.
“Thank you, young master. That’s Yan’er’s blessing,” Daji’s sorrow suddenly vanished, and she smiled at me. “It seems Yan’er is determined to follow you. As her mother, I can’t irresponsibly let my daughter trouble you.”
“Senior, do you mean you will come with us to Egypt?” I asked joyfully.
Daji smiled and said, “If the young master thinks I’m a burden, I certainly wouldn’t shamelessly follow along.”
“Senior, you must be joking. Having you with us would indeed make this journey much safer!” I replied with a smile.
Daji shook her head and said, “Did you forget what I just said? To become the Lord of Demons, you must become even stronger.”
I sighed and said, “Unfortunately, I’ve hit a bottleneck. I hope that what my master left behind can elevate my power to another level.”
At this moment, Daji suddenly remembered something and said, “By the way, I have something I want to show you.”
I looked at her curiously as she reached over the balcony and handed me an object.
I took it and saw that it was a silver necklace.
The necklace was tarnished with age, but it had a round emblem that was polished smooth.
At first glance, I thought it was the emblem of the Satan’s Cult, but upon closer inspection, I noticed that although it was composed of two concentric circles, the inner design was not the inverted pentagram symbolizing Satan. Instead, it was an octagon formed by two interlocking squares.
“This emblem looks somewhat like the sun… What do you mean by giving this to me, senior?” I asked Daji in confusion.
“When I was leaning on Xiang Yu earlier, I found this in his possession,” Daji said with a slight smile. “I thought it was peculiar, so I took it.”
In the cell earlier, my attention was fully on Xiang Yu, watching his every move. Yet, Daji had managed to steal this necklace under the watchful eyes of his six Devil eyes without a sound. Her speed and skill were truly astonishing.
“Could it be the emblem of the Demon Slayer Association?” I wondered.
“No,” Daji shook her head. “I don’t know what this necklace represents, but it certainly isn’t the emblem of the Demon Slayer Association, nor is it related to the Satan’s Cult.”
I held up the necklace, examining it closely under the faint light of the balcony.
Aside from its resemblance to the Satan’s Cult’s emblem, the necklace seemed otherwise unremarkable.
“What could this emblem possibly signify?” I mused, rubbing my chin.
“Although it may be just an ordinary necklace, my intuition tells me it’s not simple,” Daji said, her brows furrowing slightly.
Daji was no ordinary person. If she said it was not simple, then the necklace must have a significant background.
“It’s a pity Rahab isn’t here. With his knowledge, he might know something,” I sighed, reaching out to return the necklace to Daji.
But she smiled and gently pushed my hand back, saying, “This necklace is of no use to me. You should keep it.”
