Chapter 89: Chapter 87:I have an evil plan
Hearing Daji mention Zicheng, I fell silent.
Zicheng’s potential is indeed a great asset to me, but right now, he’s withdrawing due to his mental fragility.
Although I’ve thought of a way to keep him, it might further weaken his spirit.
Should I keep him?
As I remained silent, the atmosphere grew cold.
After a moment of quiet, Daji smiled softly and said, “It’s getting late, and since we have to leave early tomorrow, I should get some rest. You should also rest early.”
With that, Daji bowed slightly and slowly walked back to her room.
I watched her slender figure take each step away, the internal struggle in my heart growing more intense.
Should I keep him, or not?
Keep him, or not?
Keep him, or…
“Senior!”
I suddenly called out to Daji.
She turned slowly, looking at me curiously and asked, “What’s the matter, young master?”
“I have a request,” I said seriously after some thought. “It’s about Zicheng.”
Hearing my words, Daji just smiled, showing no sign of surprise.
…
“You took quite a while,” I said with a smile, looking at Zicheng as he walked out of the bathroom.
“Did I?” Zicheng forced a smile. He was only wearing a towel around his waist, his upper body muscles reddened by the hot water and faintly steaming.
This time, he stayed in the bathroom longer than usual.
Perhaps he wanted the water to wash away his chaotic thoughts, or maybe he simply didn’t want to face me.
Zicheng looked at the table full of food and asked in confusion, “This food…”
“I brought it up from the bar downstairs,” I said, taking a sip of sake. “Sit down. Tomorrow morning, we’ll part ways. I don’t think we’ll meet again.”
Zicheng sat down as instructed. Hearing my words, he lowered his head for a moment, seemingly unsure of how to respond.
After a long silence, he suddenly took a gulp of sake and asked in a low voice, “Little Nuo, do you blame me for quitting?” He didn’t look me in the eye as he spoke.
“Do you think I should blame you?” I put down my cup and asked in return.
“You should. You should blame me,” Zicheng said with a bitter smile.
“No, I don’t blame you,” I shook my head, looking at him. “The path of a demon is difficult, and the path of opposing all demons is even harder. You’ve only been a demon for less than a month. I understand your struggles.”
“Actually, it’s not that I’m afraid of facing demons or death,” Zicheng said, his voice growing stronger as he took another sip of sake. “I have nothing to live for, and I’ve long disregarded life and death. I’m just tired of this world, tired of its hypocrisy.”

“You were determined to seek revenge, but after what happened at the orphanage, you became disheartened,” I said, shaking my cup. “You’re still hung up on the old dean and your wife, aren’t you?”
Bang!
“That beast! Ruoru treated him like a father, but he ruthlessly violated her!” Zicheng suddenly pounded the table, his voice trembling with emotion, his eyes red and teary.
I glanced at him and silently took another sip of sake.
Zicheng suddenly grabbed the sake bottle from the table, tilted his head back, and drank. When he finished, he choked out, “Do you know? Like Ruoru, I grew up without parents. Although I didn’t see the old dean often, Ru respected and loved him like a father, and I also regarded him as family!”
“So, you’re an orphan too,” I sighed.
Zicheng rarely mentioned his family, and now I understood why—there was no one to mention.
“Yes! Ruoru and I had no one to love us, so we loved each other! But why do bad things always happen to us?” Zicheng’s face turned red, and his eyes began to blur. “Why does God treat us this way? We haven’t done anything wrong…”
As he spoke, Zicheng gradually became incoherent, his speech slurred.
Finally, he succumbed to the alcohol, slumping over the table and knocking all the food to the floor.
“Why did you have to tell me? Why? You were perfect in my eyes… Why ruin it…” Zicheng murmured, a tear sliding down his face and falling onto the table.
I watched him silently and took another sip.
“Zicheng, I have as many questions in my heart as you do,” I said, slowly turning the glass in my hand. “Four years ago, I didn’t understand why I had to be the one to oppose God. I asked my master, and he just pointed to the sky and said, ‘When the time comes, ask him yourself.'”
“Heh… Ask God face to face?” Zicheng squinted and chuckled foolishly.
“Yes, my purpose in this world is to oppose him. It’s a fate I cannot choose,” I paused and said, “Zicheng, fight with me. Strive until the end of the world. Whether we win or lose, we can ask the one above why he toys with humanity.”
“No, I’m tired. I want to go back to Hong Kong and live a peaceful life,” Zicheng said, closing his eyes tightly and furrowing his brows. “Little Nuo, I’ve let you down! I promised to be your companion for ten years, but it’s not even been ten months, and I’m breaking my word. Take it back, take back the life you gave me!”
I shook my head and said, “No, I won’t take it back because you will continue to be my companion.”
Zicheng, in his daze, asked, “What are you talking about?”
“Your potential is one in a million, and right now, there’s no demon who can help me, so I can’t let you leave,” I said, standing up slowly. “Moreover, your ‘Eye of Reminiscence’ is very helpful to me, so you have to stay.”
Zicheng seemed to hear me, his thick brows furrowing, but he couldn’t speak.
There was another reason I didn’t mention.
Although I hadn’t known Zicheng for long, he was the only friend I had ever had.
The only one.
Maybe we were both lonely people, maybe we were both helpless wanderers under fate.
But it was this shallow relationship that made me not want him to leave.
Even if I might destroy him in the future, I couldn’t let him quit now.
“So, the one who should apologize is me,” I said, looking at him as he lay slumped on the table.
But Zicheng had already fallen asleep, unable to hear my words.
“Senior’s wine is indeed potent,” I said, standing up.
At this moment, the door connecting to the adjacent room suddenly opened, and two people walked in.
One was Daji, smiling as always; the other was Hayashi Junko, her brows deeply furrowed.
“This wine is a family heirloom of the Fu family from the pre-Qin era. After years of my refinement, it has become exceptionally potent,” Daji said with a smile. “Just three drops can put even a beast into a deep slumber.”
I nodded and, after a moment of contemplation, asked Hayashi Junko, “She must have told you that we are demons, right?”
Hayashi Junko looked at me silently, her eyes still filled with disbelief. After a long time, she reluctantly nodded.
“The Satan’s Cult is deeply rooted everywhere. It’s almost impossible for you to eliminate it alone,” I said, looking at her. “So, you need my help.”
“But you just escaped from their grasp…” Hayashi Junko looked at me in confusion. “What makes you think you can fight them alone?”
I didn’t answer her question. Instead, I summoned my demonic energy and activated the “Eye of Illusions.”
Instantly, the room was filled with an overwhelming demonic aura.
“Your eye! Why has it turned red?” Hayashi Junko pointed at my left eye in horror. Because she was tainted with demonic energy, she could see the Devil eye.
“Look at it,” I commanded firmly, ignoring her surprise.
Though startled, Hayashi Junko dared not disobey. She glanced at me, and her dark pupils suddenly dilated rapidly!
Hayashi Junko’s mouth opened wide as she stared blankly ahead, tears streaming continuously from her eyes.
“Minamoto Takehiko…” Hayashi Junko murmured, her tone a mix of joy and sorrow. Her frail hand reached out as if trying to grasp something in the air but caught nothing.
At this moment, I snapped my fingers, and Hayashi Junko’s pupils contracted sharply. She shuddered and collapsed weakly to the ground.
Breathing heavily, Hayashi Junko looked up at me after a moment and said sorrowfully, “So it was you who killed the murderer of my husband!”
“Yes,” I nodded.
I had invaded Hayashi Junko’s mind, not to show her an illusion, but to let her relive the moment I tried to save her husband.
Besides revealing that I was the one who killed her enemy, I wanted to deepen her hatred for the Satan’s Cult by showing her Hayashi Minamoto Takehiko’s dying moments.
“But… how does this prove you have the ability to fight the entire Satan’s Cult?” Hayashi Junko asked, her breath still heavy.
Though she was emotionally shaken by seeing her husband’s death, her mind remained clear.
“I’m not trying to prove my ability. I just want you to know that I am the one who killed your husband’s murderer, and you should be grateful,” I said seriously. “Moreover, with the sudden defection of the Demon Slayer Association’s leader, they may no longer help you seek revenge.”
