Chapter 94: Chapter 92:Chasing villains in the desert
Under the scorching sun, three mummified cheetahs ran swiftly in a triangular formation across the yellow sands, creating a bizarre scene. Aimana sat atop the lead cheetah, fully focused on controlling them, while I drove the jeep, maintaining a ten-meter distance behind.
We had been tracking the enemy’s scent from the Valley of the Whales, using the cheetahs for nearly half a day. Despite our efforts, we were still deep in the desert, wandering in circles.
“It seems the enemy anticipated we would use scent to track them; otherwise, why would anyone wander aimlessly in the desert?” I said, frowning as I gripped the steering wheel.
“So what should we do?” Zicheng asked.
I didn’t answer Zicheng immediately. Instead, I pressed the gas pedal, accelerating the jeep to drive alongside the cheetahs, matching Aimana’s pace.
“Hey, Aimana, we’ve been circling this area repeatedly. Do you have any way to find the body thief?” I shouted through the open window.
“If you don’t trust me, I can just leave,” Aimana glanced at me, pulled down the black cloth covering his face, and said grimly, “If you want to find the guy who stole your master’s body, just shut up and follow me!”
With that, Aimana covered his face again and urged the mummified cheetahs to speed up, taking the lead once more.
I cursed under my breath. Although I trusted Aimana’s abilities, the longer my master’s body was missing, the greater the chance it would be damaged, making me increasingly anxious.
At that moment, a pair of small hands gently wrapped around my neck from the back seat.
“Big brother, calm down,” Yan’er said, leaning close and brushing her cheek against mine with a smile.
“It’s nothing, I’m just a bit anxious,” I replied with a faint smile.
“Young master, Yan’er is right. We need to stay calm; getting agitated won’t help,” Daji, sitting in the back seat, said. “The enemy is deliberately wandering in the desert to confuse us and let the wind erase their scent. But the resurrected cheetahs have an even keener sense of smell than when they were alive, so don’t worry about losing the enemy.”
Seeing Daji’s relaxed expression in the rearview mirror, I couldn’t help but ask, “Senior, how do you know the mummified cheetahs’ sense of smell has become more acute?”
“Young master, you can tell from how the cheetahs have been running without stopping,” Daji smiled. “Besides, I’ve had some dealings with the Eastern corpse-handling clan and know a bit about their techniques. Although the methods differ between China and Egypt, the effects should be similar.”
“I see,” I said, feeling slightly reassured by Daji’s words. I focused on driving and stopped worrying.
“Little Nuo, have you thought about who might have stolen your master’s body?” Zicheng suddenly asked.
“Although the enemy left no clues, I suspect the Satan Cult the most,” I said, gripping the steering wheel tightly. “There’s also another suspect, Kong ming.”
“Kong ming?” Zicheng asked, puzzled.
“Yes. No one knew that my master, Rahab, and I were together all these years. But Kong ming reminded me to return in Florence, proving he knew about it,” I explained. “His ‘Eye of Foresight’ could easily track my master’s whereabouts, so finding his tomb wouldn’t be difficult.”
“But if Kong ming already reminded you to return, why would he steal the body before you got there?” Zicheng asked, still confused.
“Kong ming is mysterious and unpredictable. He might have stolen the body to lure me somewhere,” I smiled.
“Why do you think the Satan Cult is another possible suspect?”
“Bats,” I said seriously.
“Bats?” Zicheng looked at me, puzzled.
“Deliberately hiding bats in the coffin to startle us when we opened it, but nothing more. This doesn’t seem like Kong ming’s style,” I said, glancing at him. “This malicious prank feels more like the work of the Satan Cult leader.”
“But how would they know where your master was buried?” Zicheng asked, frowning.
“I’m not sure,” I said, frowning. “They might have gotten the information from Rahab and had the Egyptian branch act before we arrived. But it’s unlikely that Rahab would easily reveal such information…”
At that moment, Zicheng suddenly shouted, “Aimana has stopped!”

I looked ahead and indeed saw Aimana and the three cheetahs had stopped.
I quickly parked the jeep and hurried over. Aimana was squatting on the ground, seemingly observing something.
“Aimana, have you found something?” I asked as I approached, but as soon as I spoke, I noticed the sand in front of him looked unusual.
About ten steps ahead of Aimana, the sand was a deep brown color, looking damp and different from the usual sand.
“It’s quicksand,” Aimana said, looking at the darker patch of sand and tossing a stone into it. The stone sank slowly, completely swallowed by the dark sand in no time.
I looked around and noticed the quicksand patch was small, about twenty cubic meters, and wouldn’t hinder our driving.
“You’re not telling me the enemy wandered around the desert only to fall into this quicksand, are you?” I asked, frowning.
“They did go in,” Aimana said, looking at me with a smirk, “but not by accident.”
His words lifted my spirits, and I quickly asked, “You mean they deliberately went into the quicksand to avoid us?”
“Yes. If someone accidentally falls in, they would struggle to get out,” Aimana pointed at the quicksand and said grimly, “But look, the surface is smooth, with no signs of struggle.”
“Quite a well-thought-out plan!” I sneered. “If not for your corpse-handling technique enhancing the cheetahs’ sense of smell, we wouldn’t have tracked them this far.”
“Stop flattering me, Little Nuo!” Aimana glared at me.
Ignoring his sarcasm, I continued, “Since they confidently walked into the quicksand, there must be a passageway underneath.”
“Little Nuo is right. One cause of quicksand is underground water. The water below might come from a distant source, and the enemy could be using an underground tunnel to reach it.
“In that case, let’s go down and drag them out,” I said with a cold smile.
“Hey, you clumsy kid, stay in the car!” Aimana said, heading to the jeep’s rear to get his tools.
“You plan to go down alone?” I asked, smiling.
“The air below the quicksand is highly toxic. Going down recklessly could be fatal.”
“But you’ve raided countless tombs with harsh conditions. You should have protective gear, right?” I asked.
“Yes, my tomb-raiding gear can protect me from poison,” Aimana said, taking out a gas mask from his bag and then putting it back. “But I don’t plan to go down myself.”
“Why not?” I asked, surprised.
“Your enemy is no ordinary person!” Aimana sneered. “I know the structure of pyramids, but I know nothing about the terrain below quicksand. If they set traps, I’d be in danger. I’m not risking my life for you.”
“If you won’t help, let me do it!” I sneered. “Demons can hold their breath for a long time, and my skin can withstand the poison.”
“Hey, don’t rush, Little Nuo. I didn’t say I wouldn’t help,” Aimana laughed sinisterly. “We agreed you’d solve the puzzle box, and I’d find the body thief for you!”
With that, Aimana took a small device from his tool bag and attached it to one of the cheetahs’ heads, securing it with white cloth. Then he took out a handheld computer, pressed a few buttons, and the screen showed the view in front of the cheetah’s head.
“It’s a miniature camera,” I said, seeing myself waving at the camera on the screen. “Aimana, are you sending it down?”
“Yes, the darkness below is best explored by something from the underworld,” Aimana said, pressing more buttons on the computer. A small map appeared in the corner of the screen.
“The camera has a positioning system. The red dot is the computer’s location, and the yellow dot represents the cheetah,” Aimana explained. “The distance between the quicksand and the ground is significant. I need to focus on chanting to control it. The cheetah moves quickly, so you must drive closely above it. If the distance between us becomes too great, I’ll lose control.”
“No problem,” I said, taking the handheld computer. “Let’s get started!”
Aimana chanted softly, severing the connection with the other two mummified cheetahs. He then loaded them onto the back of the jeep and approached the cheetah with the camera.
“Go, my dear, and chase the one who killed you!” Aimana said, stroking the cheetah’s forehead with a sinister smile. The cheetah let out a low growl and leaped onto the quicksand.
As soon as it stepped onto the quicksand, the cheetah began to sink. The quicksand, like an insatiable swarm of golden ants, continuously swallowed the mummified cheetah wrapped in white cloth. In no time, the cheetah’s four long legs were submerged, and the quicksand reached its chest. The soulless cheetah did not struggle at all, standing straight as its body disappeared into the sand. The sinking accelerated, and soon the quicksand covered its neck, leaving only the cheetah’s head above the sand. The lifeless green eyes showed no fear as they slowly vanished into the quicksand.
