Chapter 96: Chapter 94:Tracking giant
“Look at the camera, Little Nuo. Normally, even if the cheetah fell limp, its limbs would slightly prop it up, so its viewpoint wouldn’t be so low,” Aimana explained, reaching into his bag. “But look, the water on the ground almost covers half the camera. Don’t forget, I placed the camera on the cheetah’s head!”
“So, the conclusion is that the guy grabbed the cheetah by the mouth and tore it in half?” I said, frowning. Just then, the camera shook, and the screen turned white, showing no more images of the underground tunnel.
“Heh, the giant got angry,” Aimana sneered.
I knew the corpse-handling technique could only control an intact body. Although sometimes a damaged head or a few missing limbs could still be managed, the cheetah being torn in half and the camera breaking made further control impossible.
As I was worrying, I saw Aimana holding a white, basketball-sized ball wrapped in cloth.
“What is that? Another mummy?” I asked, puzzled.
“Yes, we can’t give up just yet!” Aimana laughed sinisterly, inserting another camera into the cloth and chanting urgently.
After chanting, Aimana let out a strange shout and threw the white ball out of the car. The ball unfolded in mid-air, revealing a pangolin wrapped in white cloth!
The pangolin flipped and dove headfirst into the sand, its clawed limbs moving agilely. In no time, the pangolin’s entire body was buried in the yellow sand.
“Let’s see if that guy is still there,” Aimana said, taking the handheld computer and adjusting it. The white screen turned back to black and green, but this time the viewpoint was from the bottom of the tunnel.
The tunnel was empty, with only two bloody, mangled pieces of flesh in the flowing water. No one would guess these were the remains of a cheetah.
“It seems the guy was so enraged that he tore the now ordinary corpse into this state,” Aimana sneered.
The giant initially showed strength greater than an ordinary person but was far inferior to the cheetah in all aspects. However, at the brink of death, something changed within him. His expression became extremely excited, and he gained a strength and killing intent far beyond his original.
This sudden change was something only a demon could achieve, but the camera had shown his face the entire time. Although the image was green, I was sure his eye color had not changed. Could his Devil eye be somewhere else on his body?
“Senior, did you sense any demonic energy underground just now?” I asked Daji, turning to her.
She shook her head and said, “Although the battle took place underground, it wasn’t far from us. Rocks can’t block demonic energy. If the giant had turned into a demon, I would have sensed it.”
“Could it be the effect of the ‘Puppet Eye’?” I wondered, frowning. “What secrets does that guy hold, and how many companions does he have?”
“Little Nuo, let’s think about this as we go,” Aimana said in his usual mocking tone. “My pangolin is much slower than the cheetah. You won’t catch up to the giant now, but don’t let him get too far.”
“It’s a pity we don’t know the structure of the tunnel. Otherwise, we could drive ahead of him!” I said bitterly, but I started the car again, following the direction on the computer.
Aimana controlled the pangolin, tracking the giant’s blood scent. However, the pangolin’s walking speed was too slow, even with its potential fully unleashed by the corpse-handling technique. Our progress was more than halved.
As the sun set and the moon rose, we finally reached the end of the tunnel, a small lake in an oasis north of Egypt.
“He’s gone,” Aimana said, holding the pangolin that had just swum to the lake’s edge. “The lake water washed away his scent and blood. The pangolin can’t track him anymore.” Aimana chanted, and the pangolin curled into a ball, motionless.
“Let’s do it ourselves,” I said, looking around.
Although it was late at night, the moonlight allowed us to see the general layout of the oasis. It was about the size of four or five football fields, with few large trees but plenty of grass and shrubs. I squatted down to carefully examine the grass by the lake.
“Little Nuo, are you looking for the giant’s footprints?” Zicheng asked, seeing my actions.
“Yes. The lake water washed away his scent but not his weight,” I said, touching the resilient grass. “There are few trees here, so he couldn’t walk on them. Unless he grew wings and flew, his large body would leave deep footprints in the grass and shrubs.”
Zicheng, Daji, and I activated our Devil eyes, while the others used Aimana’s tomb-raiding lights to meticulously search the area.
We divided into three groups, excluding the direction we drove in, and carefully searched the grass for the giant’s footprints. Everyone except Hayashi Junko was agile, leaving shallow traces on the grass. Given the giant’s injuries from the mummified cheetah, his footsteps would be heavy, making it easy to distinguish his prints from ours.
After a while, Yan’er shouted from the northwest, “I found something strange!”

I rushed to her and saw her flashlight illuminating a patch of grass. “Big brother, are these the giant’s footprints?” she asked.
I followed the light and saw the grass flattened; the area larger than a normal footprint.
“Looks like his footprints!” I said, delighted. I called everyone over, and we followed the giant’s footprints northwest.
The large footprints extended from the lake, heading northwest. It seemed that was the giant’s destination.
“Strange, I thought I seriously injured him. How can his steps be so wide and steady, as if he’s not hurt?” Aimana said in surprise.
“That guy has too many secrets. Maybe his sudden strength is related to a Devil eye,” I said, examining the ground.
“I think a demon is controlling the giant,” Daji said, frowning. “No ordinary person can gain such strength without reason. Even if someone in a life-or-death situation can unleash potential, they would be exhausted afterward and couldn’t travel such a long distance.”
“Is there any magic that can achieve this?” I asked.
Daji shook her head. “Not that I know of.”
“Do you have any idea which Devil eye it might be?”
Daji hesitated and then said softly, “I know of one Devil eye with this ability, but it should have been destroyed…”
I was surprised and wanted to ask more, but I noticed the grass was starting to mix with fine sand. Looking up, I saw we had reached the edge of the oasis. After a few more steps, there were no more plants.
Searching and searching, we found ourselves back in the lifeless desert.
“The giant’s footprints end here, and there are no traces of him ahead,” Aimana, leading the way, returned after investigating. “It seems a strong wind has blown away his tracks in the sand.
I instructed Zicheng, “Zicheng, can you go and bring the car over?”
Zicheng nodded and ran back to where we had parked.
“What are you planning, Little Nuo?” Aimana asked with his usual sinister tone after Zicheng left.
“Let’s see what’s in that direction first,” I said, noticing Yan’er and Daji standing on a small sand dune, looking out.
I walked over to them and asked, “What are you looking at?”
Daji turned around, brushing her wind-tousled hair with one hand and pointing into the distance with the other. “There’s a town not far from here. I can sense a lot of human presence over there.”
A town?
The giant’s footprints had been heading this way. If he hadn’t changed direction, he might be in that town now.
I pondered for a moment, then made a decision and asked Daji, “Senior, may I borrow your daughter for a moment?”
Daji looked at me and smiled, “What do you plan to do, young master?”
I pointed to the sky with my index finger and smiled, “I want Yan’er to scout ahead for us.”
Understanding my intention, Daji laughed and said, “That depends on her willingness.”
Yan’er, puzzled by our conversation, asked, “Big brother, what are you and mom talking about?”
“Yan’er, I need you to fly up and see how far the town is from here and if there are any suspicious buildings nearby. Can you do that?” I asked her seriously.
“Fly up? How will I get up there?” Yan’er tilted her head and smiled.
“I’ll send you up,” I said, interlocking my hands and preparing to throw her.
Although I knew Yan’er wouldn’t refuse, I expected her to be somewhat surprised by such an unusual request. To my surprise, she showed no shock, just laughed twice, and jumped onto my interlocked hands, her small hands resting on my shoulders.
“Yan’er, aren’t you afraid?” I asked the little girl in front of me.
“I’m scared, but,” she smiled, “I trust that big brother will catch me.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t let you get hurt,” I said, feeling touched by her words.
With the help of my Devil eye, jumping high into the air myself wouldn’t be difficult. However, the soft sand underfoot provided poor support, and if I jumped, the height would be significantly reduced. That’s why I needed Yaner’s help.
“Are you ready?” I asked Yan’er. When she nodded firmly, I gave her a final reminder, “Remember to hold your breath and don’t breathe in the air up there.”
Then, I activated the “Eye of Illusions,” focusing my strength in my hands.
I steadied my stance, took a deep breath, and shouted, “Up!” With a powerful thrust, I launched Yan’er into the sky. She soared upward like a firework, quickly ascending.
