Chapter 503: A Moment of Calm – The Storm’s Edge
Several hours after the meeting, the cannons began to cease, and Asura headed to his private chamber alone. He gazed at the dreary and cracked walls.
“I should have been more aware of the danger.” Asura’s voice echoed down the dark hallway like the voice of a ghost.
They avoided lighting too many inner lights during the evening to avoid helping the undead spot the fortress in the darkness. On the first day, they underestimated the enemy, and this beautiful fortress suffered several cannon blasts which destroyed much of its outer walls.
Thus, Asura tried to preserve it as best he could.
‘I feel exhausted tonight.’
[*Yawn* Father, I am going to sleep in the tree placed in the courtyard.]
[Find me in the morning, okay?]
Asura smiled gently as the tapping of his feet echoed through the night. A smell of sulphur and coal flowing from the burning battlefield and port.
‘I promise, now sleep well.’
Suddenly, the figure of Noir appeared, her silver wings fluttering rapidly. She danced through the air in an arc towards the courtyard, where a beautiful tree stood. The huge silver trunk and leaves felt like an ethereal mirage stood amid this gloomy, dark fortress.
“Good night, dad!” Her lovely voice echoed in his mind before she vanished.
“Night, Noir.”
Although he gave a kind smile, Asura couldn’t feel those positive feelings due to how exhausted he felt, but he still made the effort for Noir.
‘Forgive me for making you work so hard—when the morning comes, it’ll be okay.’
“Well, let’s head to bed… I am sure they are waiting and I have something to do.”
He looked out the window and smiled; because of the explosions and magic to destroy the undead, there was a faint smog of silver-coloured mist covering the entire city.
Asura couldn’t help but remember the flying scene of Noir and tapped the grey stone window panel.
‘Thanks again, little girl.’
“It looks like a city where fairies might live.’
With a slightly doubtful smile, his eyes narrowed into thin slits while a crimson glow lit the passage in a small cone.
Asura headed to his room while focusing his mind on his mana core and the divine tree inside him.

Asura finally arrived at his room.
The grand archway with two thick doors reinforced with magical metal made him feel like a hypocrite.
‘My men and people suffer in the cold, barely able to survive, and I have this kind of luxury.’
However, those thoughts faded the moment the door opened.
“Darling!”

A small cry before he felt her soft body leapt into his arms—Xavida wrapped her hands around his neck and kissed his lips.
The sudden kiss stunned him before her warm tongue pushed into his mouth and began to entangle his.
He could feel her need for warmth and his reassurance.
“Mmph~ do you feel better now?”
“I do, Xavida. How are you feeling? I see your scales are slowly returning to a lovely pink shade.”
Her voice and warm embrace enlivened him.
Asura couldn’t help but stroke her cheeks, his fingertips brushing the warm, squishy scales while kissing her lips once and twice.
Xavida looked stunned—the kisses were short, like a greeting peck.
However, with each small kiss, he poured his vital energy and divine magic into her body. His immense power flooded her core as it washed away her exhaustion.
“I… I am fine, darling.”
Her face looked strange, different from her usual energetic self. Her cheeks became bright pink, and so did her scales.
Xavida couldn’t hide the loud thumping of her two hearts—the constant kisses made her feel embarrassed even though she should be used to this.
“You look much prettier, make sure you eat something with me tonight.”
“O-of course I will, but darling you are so pale…”
“Haha, it seems my lovely dragoness notices to well, even though I used makeup to hide it.”
“Hmph! I love you the most~ hehe, so I notice everything!”
Her head leaned against his chest as Xavida closed her eyes while listening to their heartbeats, all four hearts beating in sync like a drunk.
There wasn’t much time to act like this over the past few months.
“Darling?”
“Hmmm, what’s wrong, Xavi?”
Although Xavida laid their eggs in the capital, thanks to the magic she placed around them, they won’t hatch until their father appears and touches them.
“When this battle is over, will you come with me to see our children?”
Asura’s eyes widened; he looked at the face of Xavida, but she still closed her eyes and didn’t notice. But it looked like her words shocked him deeply.
“Do you think I wouldn’t? Those little ones are the precious treasure we created together.”
“Ah…”
“I didn’t think of it that way.”
Xavida’s eyes opened suddenly, her beautiful iris shimmering like a jewel from the ocean as she cupped Asura’s cheeks. “Forgive me, darling, I didn’t… Mmmph!”
The soft lips of Asura sealed her mouth before his tongue pushed deep into her mouth, wrapping around hers and deepening their kiss.
Asura gripped the back of her head and became lost in the moment as the wet smack echoed through the room.

Five minutes later, Xavida’s eyes looked dreamy as she lay on the bed, her clothes dishevelled.
“Haa….haa…. dar….ling…”
“Why do you always look so adorable, no matter what you do? My Xavida.”
“Ehehe~ I remember hating you when we first me… you were handsome but I couldn’t trust you and tried to threaten you.”
Asura’s eyes closed before he pictured the proud dragon princess, her aura exploding with the image of her current dragon form.
A beautiful white dragon with pink wings and scales on her cheeks.
The moment his eyes opened, he noticed her looking at him with a curious expression, both eyes fixated on him.
“After all, maybe it was that moment I began falling for you.”
Xavida’s mouth opened wide upon hearing his words.
She always wondered when, how and why he fell for her and normally, he would use sweet words…
“Do you mean that? But I was so rude and always snapped at you back then!”
“Yeah, it was so cute I honestly wanted to squeeze those soft cheeks of yours.”
“Ahh… I can’t believe you liked me at the same moment! So embarrassing.”
Asura couldn’t help but smirk at the sight of her cheeks and scales turning bright red. She covered her lips and nose while squinting her eyes as if to hide her expression.
But Xavida’s scales always betrayed her.
“What made you like me back then?”
He curled his lips into a cheeky smirk while lifting his brows, clearly intrigued as he believed her affection came much, much later on.
“Hmph! I won’t tell!”
“Don’t make me tickle you…”
“Ah… kyah…No…hahah…hahaha! Stop! Help…..!”

Not long after, the poor dragoness panted, her hair a mess, and her clothes barely covered her body.
“You are too rough and skilled… how can I fight back?!” Xavida scolded him—her eyes narrowed into a glare.
But her eyes glowed brightly with a delightful aura, and Asura just smiled at her as she pointed at his nose.
Asura nodded but still pushed the subject. “Tell me, okay?”
“Hmph… only because I love you, understand?”
“Ah, I understand. You love me so much!”
“Hmm!”
“It’s because you looked so handsome and reliable when you faced my aura, even when you were a mere Stage One hatchling. You faced me with such a powerful determination and broke my aura, even if for a moment…”
“I felt my heart tremble, and despite being so thorny to you. I wanted to know more about you!
“Oh my, such a lovely princess…”
“I know I am lovely! Hmm! You better sleep with me tonight, since you went this far… how about you keep that promise.”
“Tsk! Who would have thought my dragon princess would be so horny! Already seeking more, after she only just gave birth!”
“Hehe~ I want more, because then you will never leave me.”
“I wouldn’t leave you, even if I die. I won’t let you go, Xavida!”
“!!!”
Although it sounded grim and rather macabre, the current situation being what it was, Xavida seemed to take this differently. Her eyes became wet with tears, widening as she opened her soft lips and spoke in a quiet voice, like a mouse’s whisper.
“Do you promise… even if we die, we’ll not be split apart?”
“I won’t let you die, even if I become a monster.”
“Nn… then… will you reassure me tonight? I want to feel your touch.”
“Gladly, My dragoness.”
“Hic…”
Those words echoed deep in her mind.
‘Darling is really stubborn… but that’s good, he won’t ever give up…’
Her fingers curled against his chest while she wrapped one leg around his hip, bringing them closer together.
And under the dark moon, covered with silver clouds, they kissed once again.

Three hours after the grand bed inside Asura’s room stopped rocking, he stood on the balcony wearing nothing and gazing towards the north.
“I need to help my troops recover.”
‘Since that girl Noir is sleeping, she cannot limit the amount of vitality and magic I use to help heal the wounded around me…’
It was a dangerous thought and desire, but if he spent his energy to the limit for five hours, then he could heal the entire army and his wives.
However, the amount of pain and suffering added to the mental and physical strain would cause severe damage to Asura.
‘I must do this for Xavida, my other beloved women and my children… those born and unborn.’
The moment he made his choice, a beautiful green light began tracing lines in his body, interwoven with silver flowers. The image of a majestic tree formed on his chest before shimmering light began to spread from his body.
A divine silver light enveloped the city of Wolfsheim on this dark autumn evening.
However…
Asura’s body collapsed to his knees as gold and silver blood oozed from his nose and lips. He suffered with veins bulging from beneath his skin, and he suffered a seizure alone in the cold winds of the coastal sea.
Yet come morning…
A miracle would unfold for the people of Silvara.
