Chapter 113: Big Sister – Freya Voidwalker
“What do you mean?” Max asked, frowning, not understanding her words.
Freya floated around the world of darkness and said, “In simpler terms, everything we talk about here will be known by the original me, wherever she is right now.”
Max’s eyes shone upon hearing this.
She glanced at Max warmly and asked, “You must have a lot of questions. Ask away.”
Max took a deep breath and asked, “Where are you right now?”
Freya thought for a moment and shrugged. “Before leaving this part of my soul, I headed to the Middle Domain. As for my current location, I don’t know.”
“Middle Domain…” Max muttered, hearing the term for the first time.
Max glanced at her and asked again, “Why did you leave behind a part of your soul in the Thorne Family? There must be a reason.”
Freya’s expression became serious at Max’s question. “Indeed. There’s a reason behind it,” she said solemnly. “It’s because of you, Maxy. I’m worried about you.”
“Worried about me? Why? I’m doing fine,” Max replied, smiling.
Freya smiled back and said, “If you’re in the Thorne Family, you must have received my last message.”
Max nodded.
She continued, “I mentioned that I made some enemies last time. Because of that, I wanted you to stay away from me, but since you’re here, it means you did the opposite.”
Max sighed and shrugged. “How can I be a good little brother if I don’t go and find my Big Sister?” He smiled.
He added with a more serious expression, “And I’ve also met the enemy you talked about. Monarch.”
Freya was momentarily surprised. “How? You’re still too weak to confront them,” she said, her tone full of concern.
Max shrugged. “They opened a crack in the sky in Central City. They were aiming to kidnap me and Alice.” As he said this, he glanced at her.
Freya nodded, frowning. “A crack in the sky?” Her expression turned serious.
“The crack is still there, but no monsters have come since we killed the initial ones,” Max explained.
Freya nodded in understanding. “I see.” Her brows furrowed in contemplation.
“Big Sister, why did you betray the Phoenix Order guild?” Max asked, voicing the question he had wanted to ask for a long time.
Freya glanced at him and chuckled. “Did I? Well, how about you go and find out yourself?”
Max frowned at her cryptic reply.
He asked again, “Monarch tested my blood, but it turns out I’m not a Voidwalker. Were their test results wrong?” Max’s expression was serious.
Freya sighed. “There are some things it’s better for you to figure out on your own, and others that are better known when the time is right. But since you’re so desperate, I’ll tell you: you are my brother… and you are a Voidwalker.” She said solemnly.
Max wanted to know more about what she meant but nodded. If what she said was true, then he should wait. ‘Damn, if only I were her ‘Big’ brother,’ he thought.
Freya nodded and said, “Now, back to what I was saying. The reason I left behind a part of my soul. There are two things I want you to do.”
Max listened attentively, curious.
She continued, “Go to the Lost Continent and enter the last floor. There, you’ll have to fight and win. I entered the last floor but failed to reach far. Max, if you can, defeat the last individual on the last floor you will get a key.”
She added, “That key is important, but what’s more important than defeating the last individual is what comes after. There will be a chance for you.”

Max nodded becoming curious about Lost Continent after hearing her.
Freya continued, “If you ever visit the West Region, you must explore the Mourning Depths. That place has ties to the Lost Continent. Most importantly, there’s another opportunity for you there.”
“West Region?” Max muttered. He hadn’t planned to go anywhere recently, but now that his Big Sister had asked him to explore the place, he would make time.
“Mourning Depths sounds like a very eerie place… Is it dangerous?” Max asked curiously.
Freya nodded and warned Max solemnly, “That place is indeed very dangerous. Before going there, you must research it thoroughly.”
Max nodded and asked, his expression turning a little sad. “Is that all?”
Freya glanced at Max’s disappointed expression and smiled warmly. “Don’t worry, we’ll meet again soon. Also, be very wary of Monarch. They’re very powerful and evil. You’ll probably need an army to fight against them.”
“Army?” Max laughed wryly. Where would he get that?
Freya chuckled. “There’s one more thing you should keep in mind. This world is full of mysteries, and chances are only given to those willing to take risks. So, if you ever come across opportunities that could make you stronger, grab them. Only by doing so will you reach the pinnacle of this world and have a chance of finding me, Father and Mother.”
Max nodded solemnly.
She sighed. “That’s all I wanted to say to you. I have to go now.” Her form in the darkness began to slowly fade.
Max’s voice was thick with emotion as he asked, “Is this the last time we’ll talk before I finally find you?”
Freya gave a small shrug, her gaze steady but uncertain. “I don’t know. Don’t get your hopes up, Maxy. Just focus on becoming stronger. Enter the Middle Domain—that’s where your real journey begins.”
Max’s shoulders slumped as tears brimmed in his eyes, threatening to spill over.
Her expression softened as she saw Max in such a state, but she quickly steeled her resolve and said firmly, “Listen carefully, Maxy. Both Father and Mother are still alive. They must be waiting for you, for us, to save them. We have to reunite our family, Maxy. So, if you ever face a situation where death seems inevitable, you must dodge, hide, run—whatever it takes to survive. Etch this deeply into your heart.”
Max met her gaze, his eyes brimming with unshed tears. “I promise you—I won’t die. Not until I find you, find Mother, and find Father. So, you better not die either. Because if you do, I’ll tear through the underworld itself to bring you back if I have to.”
Freya’s serious expression softened slightly, a faint, bittersweet smile gracing her lips. “That’s just like you,” she murmured. “Stubborn and reckless as always.”
With those words, she faded away into the darkness.
Max stared at the place where she had been, his mind blank.
“Big Sister, I will find you soon,” he said to himself resolutely, his face filled with determination as he wiped away his tears.
Just then, the darkness around him disappeared, and he found himself standing in a square room.
In front of him was a floating mass of gas, wriggling all around him.
The door to the room opened, and a middle-aged man with a round belly and a big beard approached Max. “So, how was it?”
Max glanced at him blankly, not understanding what he meant. Who was this man? Where was he?
As he pondered these questions, a slight headache struck him, and with it, realization dawned upon him.
These illusions—his meeting with his sister—weren’t coincidental at all.
After his memories cleared, he understood everything.
This morning, when he was ready to leave for the Thorne Family, Alice’s mother had called him, but it wasn’t for anything specific. She wanted to escort him to the Thorne Family herself.
The reason? She warned him that assassins from the Blade Family might be after him, or any other power, due to his recent rise. Max had agreed to her help without a second thought.
With her help, he reached the Thorne Family in just minutes. There, he met Ralph Thorne, the leader of the family.
Ralph first invited him to have dinner. They talked and laughed as they ate.
Later, Ralph told him about the soul left behind by Freya, and it was then that Max took part in the test of illusions to meet his sister.
However, the illusion was set in such a way that one would forget how they came under its influence, unless they came out of it.
“Damn, this illusion is very terrifying,” Max grimaced, just thinking about the experience.
He had to be careful in the future to avoid falling prey to such illusions again, but the pressing question lingered in his mind: how would he even know if he was trapped in an illusion if it happened?
