Chapter 168: Strongest in the Adept Rank
“You all can start your battle now,” the blob of slime announced, signaling the beginning of the fights. However, before anyone could even draw their weapons, some had already admitted defeat.
“I admit defeat.” It was Asha. Nobody could see what was happening behind her mask, but they were all shocked that she had given up so easily.
Recalling her previous battle prowess, they understood that she stood a chance against Veylin, even if he was the son of the Young Monarch. Yet, she surrendered without a fight, disappointing not only the many geniuses inside the temple but also the numerous experts watching the battle from outside.
Max glanced at her, not surprised by her surrender. The reason was simple. Even if she won against Veylin, she would ultimately have to face him. However, since he could unconsciously suppress her bloodline, even if he wanted to, she would be at his mercy. Moreover, Max understood that even if she used her black flames against him, they wouldn’t be very effective.
“Very well.” The blob of slime nodded as Asha found herself on her pillar.
Shaking his thoughts away, Max turned his attention to Amelia. “Let’s have a great battle!” he said with a smile.
Amelia nodded as she took out her sword. This time, she didn’t rest her hands on it like she had with Bruce; instead, she gripped it tightly.
Max smiled as he noticed the difference, but he didn’t mind. Using the full power of his Fusion State at 20%, he channeled it into his sword, causing it to glow with a mix of red and blue.
Almost instantly, a terrible pressure erupted from his body. It was so intense that all the other geniuses who had already comprehended a level 3 aura felt somewhat overwhelmed by the intent behind Max’s aura.
Though everyone could sense the aura was only at level 2, the intent behind it was enough to make them serious.
Crown Prince Aelric, who had been trying to come up with excuses to calm his father, suddenly stood up, feeling the strange aura.
“This! This is it… the full intent behind the strange aura Max is releasing,” he exclaimed, feeling the force emanating from it. It was even stronger than his blade intent.
“What kind of aura is this? Why is it so strong for a level 2?” Veylin frowned, his face solemn as he glanced at Max. He had seen many different varieties of auras, thanks to his father, but even he hadn’t encountered such a strange situation.
The aura emanating from Max was unlike anything he had ever seen.
“Because this isn’t just one intent,” Five said lightly, his face holding a small smile.
“What do you mean?” Crown Prince Aelric asked, his eyes filled with curiosity.
Five paused for a moment before replying. “A while ago, I had an encounter with Max. We fought, but at that time, Max was very weak. However, he was still able to overpower my level 2 sword aura.”
He continued, “He did this by superimposing two auras: a sword aura and a flame aura. But his intention wasn’t simply to superimpose the two auras; it was to merge them completely into one.”
Glancing at Max, wielding the strange aura, Five concluded, “I believe he has successfully achieved his goal. The aura before us is a pure merging of two auras: a level 2 sword aura and a level 2 flame aura.”
Everyone in the battle realm was stunned upon hearing Five. It was already difficult enough to comprehend one aura, but Max had comprehended two. More impressively, he had gone above and beyond by seamlessly merging them.
This was no longer just a genius. It was more than anything a genius could ever achieve—an impossible feat for any genius to even contemplate.
And yet, there was Max, who had not only achieved this remarkable feat but had done so at the mere Apprentice Rank, which was still considered just a starting point for many.
“Two auras? Merging? Interesting,” Amelia muttered, before taking action for the first time. She appeared in front of Max and slashed down with her sword.
Max’s smile widened as he unleashed the full power of his 15 Draconic Essences. His sword radiated terrifying might. The air around him crackled as his Fusion State surged to 20%, and his aura intensified to an overwhelming degree.
Just then, their swords were about to meet.
Boom!
The ground beneath their feet shattered instantly, sending debris flying in all directions. The sheer force of their clashing wills turned the stage into a chaotic storm of energy.
Yet—
Their swords had not even touched.
A mere finger’s width separated the two blades, but the pressure emanating from them was enough to level an entire region. Waves of violent energy burst forth, tearing through the air and warping space itself. The very fabric of the stage trembled under the weight of their power.

Bang!
Another explosion of force erupted as their swords inched closer, yet something unseen seemed to hold them apart. An invisible barrier—perhaps the sheer intensity of their combined strength—prevented the blades from making contact.
And yet—
Despite their swords never touching, the shockwaves alone were enough to obliterate everything in their surroundings. The tiles split apart, and the air itself vibrated with an unbearable intensity.
It was no longer just a battle—
It was a clash of absolute power.
It wasn’t long before both of them calmed down and slowly backed away.
“The Space Aura is very strong,” Max said calmly, understanding why their swords hadn’t collided. It was because Amelia had used a level 3 Space Aura on her sword. This created an invisible space between her sword and his that couldn’t be bridged with mere physical force.
A rare smile appeared on Amelia’s face as well. “The two auras merged together to form this strange aura. It’s also very strong. It could directly collide with my Space Aura in terms of raw power alone.”
Max shrugged. “Even so, it’s still nothing compared to mastering a Space Aura. Imagine all the things you could do with it.” His eyes became fascinated, wondering about the different uses of Space Aura.
Amelia nodded in agreement. “True. Space Aura is all-encompassing compared to other auras, but it’s also difficult to comprehend.”
She added, “Moreover, my Space Aura is the strongest below anything in the Seeker Rank.”
“Hmm? Strongest?” Max raised an eyebrow. “You mean to say you are the strongest in the Adept Rank with your Space Aura?”
Amelia neither agreed nor disagreed, but her lack of action suggested her meaning.
Max chuckled lightly at her arrogance. He understood that every genius present here had their own ego and confidence since each of them had worked hard to get where they were. But to have such confidence that one could declare themselves the strongest in the entire rank? Only a few geniuses could do that.
While Max believed he was the strongest genius in the Apprentice Rank—no one even came close to him—he wasn’t entirely sure about his strength in the Adept Rank. Maybe things would have been different if he were actually in the Adept Rank, but for now, he wasn’t anywhere near declaring himself the strongest genius there. Not even close.
Therefore, hearing Amelia’s words, Max was a bit surprised.
“I would love to see your true strength. Come on,” Max said, smiling at her. “But believe me, you are not the strongest in the Adept Rank, nor am I, nor any individual here.”
