Chapter 175: Intense Battle
Max grinned, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
“Yeah? How about this?”
As soon as the words left his mouth, lightning surged across his body, crackling wildly as it coiled around his black sword. The air around him buzzed with raw energy as he channeled his Level 2 Lightning Aura, the arcs of blue and white electricity dancing along the blade’s edge like living serpents.
But that wasn’t all.
At the same time, a faint distortion shimmered around his sword—his Level 1 Space Aura activating, bending the space around his weapon ever so slightly.
The moment both auras merged, Max swung his sword with overwhelming force.
BANG!
The sheer shockwave of the strike sent Veylin staggering backward, his feet dragging across the battlefield as he was pushed several meters away.
For the first time in their fight, Max had forced him back.
The fusion of Lightning and Space Aura had tipped the balance—his sword strikes were now faster, heavier, and more unpredictable.
Veylin’s smirk vanished, his grip tightening on his spear as he quickly stabilized himself. The air around him crackled with tension, a storm of energy swirling as his frosty voice cut through the battlefield.
“You are good.”
But his tone lacked its previous arrogance—replaced by something colder, more dangerous.
Then—
CRACK!
A surge of blue lightning erupted from his body, snaking through the air like living tendrils, writhing and pulsing with terrifying power.
BOOM!
The moment his energy touched the ground, the entire stage trembled violently.
Like a storm awakening from slumber, the lightning tendrils slithered outward, spreading across the battlefield like hungry serpents, their electric tongues hissing as they coiled across the shattered tiles.
In mere moments, the entire stage was covered—an intricate web of lightning, twisting and flickering, trapping Max within its electrified grasp.
Following that, Veylin’s grip on his spear tightened, his expression cold and unreadable as his figure blurred—disappearing in a flash of lightning.
A split second later—
He reappeared directly in front of Max, his spear thrusting forward like a lightning bolt.
With a thunderous roar, a massive lightning dragon surged from his spear, its serpentine body crackling with devastating power as it lunged straight at Max.
—
Max’s eyes flickered, his gaze locking onto the incoming lightning dragon.
And then, a wild thought crossed his mind.
‘Can I absorb this?’
The question sent a surge of excitement through him.
He had absorbed other types of energy before—but never an attack of this level, from a direct opponent.

For a moment, he hesitated.
Then—
He decided to gamble again.
Raising his hand, lightning crackled around his palm, his Level 2 Lightning Aura surging to its full power.
As if drawn by an unseen force, the lightning dragon immediately shifted, its entire body veering toward Max’s hand.
Chil-la!
The moment it touched his palm, Max felt an odd tickling sensation, as Veylin’s Level 3 Lightning intertwined with his own—merging, fluctuating, resisting.
It was working.
He could feel the energy entering his body.
But before he could fully absorb it—
BOOM!
Veylin’s figure blurred again, appearing at another angle.
Then another.
And another.
From all directions, more lightning dragons surged toward Max.
In mere moments, six of them latched onto his extended lightning-charged hand, coiling around his arm like snakes constricting their prey.
Veylin’s laughter echoed, his voice dripping with mockery.
“Fool!” He sneered. “My Lightning Aura is at Level 3 while yours is only at Level 2. Of course, my lightning would dominate yours!”
‘Fool?’ Max barely paid attention to Veylin’s taunt, his focus locked onto the lightning coursing into his body.
He could feel it—the Level 3 Lightning Aura trying to invade his system, but the process was too slow, almost like trying to drink a river through a straw.
Not enough.
His mind raced. How could he speed it up?
Then—
A thought struck him.
His eyes gleamed, and without hesitation, he summoned his black flames, wrapping them around all six lightning dragons that had latched onto his arm.
The flames twisted and coiled, engulfing the crackling serpents in a dark, eerie glow. The contrast between black fire and blue lightning sent an ominous aura rippling through the battlefield.
Veylin’s smirk faltered for a fraction of a second. “What—”
Max’s lips curled slightly as he gave a simple command.
“Devour.”
The moment the word left his mind—
WHOOSH!
The black flames surged violently, swallowing the six lightning dragons whole.
In the blink of an eye, they were gone.
Vanished.
As if the black flames had simply erased them from existence.
The battlefield fell into a heavy silence.
Max slowly lowered his hand, feeling the pure, refined lightning energy now circulating within him.
His body buzzed, his Lightning Aura pulsing, his power growing.
Veylin’s expression darkened, his brows creasing as he took a step back. “…Impossible.” He muttered in shock. He felt ever so slightly that Max’s Lightning Aura increased after the black flames dispersed his lightning lightning.
Though he couldn’t be clearer on what happened to his lightning he was sure that Max’s Lightning Aura increased even if it was a little bit.
“What did you just do?” He asked sharply. His voice was low and edged with suspicion, his grip on his spear tightening.
Max met his gaze calmly, then shrugged, his expression unreadable.
“Since your lightning didn’t have any effect on me, I figured I’d use it to improve my mastery over my own Lightning Aura.”
He smirked, tilting his head slightly.
“By feeling the flow of your Level 3 Lightning Aura, I managed to push my own Lightning Aura further. Even if it was just a small gain, it was worth it.”
A lie. He told Veylin a lie.
In reality, Max had discovered something far more shocking—a truth that could change everything.
His black flames could devour energy-based attacks and, in doing so, increase his mastery over that element.
A technique like this…
It was dangerous. Unheard of.
And if he could devour attacks to increase his elemental mastery, what about something more?
A chilling thought surfaced in his mind.
