Chapter 269: To The West
“Oh, we are.” Klaus nodded, his expression turning a bit more serious. “The King of the West extended a formal invitation. But you should know—practically every major power in the Valora Continent is attending. And let’s just say… our guild doesn’t leave the best impression on most of them.”
That made Max frown slightly. “The guild does business in other regions too?”
Klaus chuckled. “You catch on fast.”
His eyes gleamed with pride as he continued. “The Black Lotus Guild isn’t just some ordinary faction. We’re one of the ancient powers of this world. Of course, we have sub-divisions in all four regions of Valora Continent.”
His voice carried a note of pride, as if this fact alone set them apart from the rest.
Max nodded lightly before turning his attention to the three geniuses accompanying him to the West Region.
His gaze landed on two familiar faces first.
Callie—and the man who had helped him during the Dungeon Break incident.
The latter stepped forward with a casual nod. “Hello. You might not recognize me without my mask, but I’m Carl. We’ve met before.”
Max’s eyes glimmered with recognition. “I recognize you.” He extended his hand, shaking Carl’s firmly. “Good to see you again.”
With that, he turned to the last genius.
The man’s broody expression was the first thing Max noticed. Dark circles under his eyes, slightly disheveled hair—it was like he hadn’t slept or bothered to comb his hair for days.
“I’m Nick. Nice to meet you.” The words came out in a flat, uninterested monotone.
Max blinked. He turned to Carl and Callie. “Does he hate me or something?” he asked, pointing at Nick.
Carl let out a small chuckle. “Don’t worry. He’s like this with everyone.”
Max nodded, taking that as an answer, but before he could say anything else—
A sudden shift in the air made him turn around.
Everyone instinctively looked behind them.
The Old Saintess had arrived.
She wasted no time. The moment she arrived, her gaze locked onto Max, her tone carrying a heavy sense of warning.
“Max, you should be extra careful out there.” Her voice was firm, her expression unreadable. “There’s no telling when someone might recognize you.”
Max gave a slight nod, already well aware of the risks.
Her eyes narrowed slightly. “You do have a mask, right?”
Without hesitation, Max smiled and reached into his storage space, pulling out a featureless black mask before slipping it over his face.
It was plain, devoid of any eye or mouth holes, covering his face completely.
Carl, who had been silently watching, frowned slightly. “Can you even see from that thing?” He circled Max, inspecting the mask from different angles, clearly puzzled.
Max simply nodded. “I can see everything.” His tone was vague, leaving no room for further questioning.
Carl clicked his tongue but didn’t push for details.
The Old Saintess, satisfied, turned her attention to Callie.
“Max, Callie will also be exploring the Mourning Depths. Look out for each other in there.” Her voice was solemn, laced with an unspoken warning.

Max blinked, genuinely surprised.
“She’s going too?” He pointed at Callie, his expression shifting as he instinctively sensed her strength.
And then it hit him.
Level 3 of Seeker Rank.
His eyes widened. “She leveled up too fast!” The words left his mouth before he could stop them.
The Old Saintess chuckled, clearly amused by his reaction. “This is the result of her bloodline evolution to the Progenitor Rank.” There was a clear sense of pride in her voice. “With this level of bloodline, her strength will continue to soar to new heights.”
Max exhaled, nodding in understanding.
A Progenitor-Rank bloodline…
No wonder her growth had been so rapid. Bloodline evolution was a rare, game-changing event but due to him it happened, and Callie had clearly benefited immensely.
Still, power alone wouldn’t guarantee survival.
The Old Saintess’s expression turned serious again. “There will be many Expert Rank individuals exploring the Mourning Depths, with only a few Seeker Rank in between. Your strength—both yours and Callie’s—will fall into the lowest of the low during the exploration.”
Her gaze sharpened. “You must watch each other’s backs during that time.”
Max nodded without hesitation. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of her.” His voice was steady, filled with conviction.
But before the Old Saintess could respond, Callie crossed her arms and arched a brow. Clearly, she didn’t like the way he phrased that.
“Don’t worry, Master,” she said, her tone firm. “I’ll take care of both of us.”
Max smirked under his mask. ‘Seems she doesn’t like being seen as someone who needs protection.’
“Alright, ready to move.”
Klaus’s voice rang out just as a powerful gust of wind swept past them.
A black jet descended from above, landing smoothly in front of them. Its triangular shape and pitch-black surface gave it a sleek, predatory appearance, with faint shades of green running along its edges.
It looked like something built for stealth and speed.
Klaus motioned toward it. “Hop on. This will be our ride for the next few hours.” Without hesitation, he stepped aboard, the others following in silence.
Max was the last to board.
He took a seat near the window, adjusting himself as the hum of the jet’s engines filled the air. The rest of the group settled in quickly, and within moments, the jet lifted off, accelerating into the sky.
The world outside blurred.
Max turned his gaze toward the window, watching the land shrink beneath them. His expression darkened.
A familiar weight settled in his chest.
‘Alice.’
He had promised her—months ago—that he would finally reveal his true identity once they reached the West Region.
But now?
After what had happened last time with Aurelia… he wasn’t sure what to say anymore.
If he even got the chance to say anything.
A chilling thought crept into Max’s mind.
‘Would Aurelia have already told her?’
If she had…
‘Would Alice hate him now?’
Doubt twisted inside him, coiling like a serpent.
He had spent months preparing for this moment, imagining how he would finally reveal the truth. He had thought about how to explain himself, how to make her understand.
But now?
‘Would she even want to hear him out?’
His fingers tightened into fists.
He had always assumed he’d get the chance to talk to her, to explain everything. But what if that chance was already gone?
What if, when they finally met, all she had for him was cold indifference?
Or worse… hatred?
Just like her mother.
Max let out a slow breath, forcing himself to push the thoughts aside.
No use dwelling on what-ifs.
He would find out soon enough.
