Chapter 326: Looking Forward
The Blob floated in front of Max, his expression solemn.
“I don’t know how you’re even alive with only a Yang soul in your body,” he began quietly, “but what I do know is this—the stronger you become, the more this problem is going to surface.”
Max’s brows furrowed, lips tightening. He could already sense where this was going.
And it didn’t sound good.
He thought back to the past few months.
Before his awakening, before he stepped onto the path of true power—he never had this issue. Not once. The fainting, the sudden collapses… they all started after he broke into Apprentice Rank. The first time it happened was subtle. The second time, during the incident with the Thorne Family where he fainted again almost.
His expression darkened.
“You’re saying… the stronger I get, the more frequently I’ll faint?” he asked, his voice grim.
Blob nodded slowly. “Exactly. But that’s only the beginning.”
Max’s chest tightened.
Blob’s voice grew heavier. “There will come a time when you don’t wake up again, Max. You’ll faint—and that’ll be it. Eternal silence.”
He paused, floating closer. “Whoever… or whatever saved you when your Yin soul was lost, they didn’t just save your life—they rewrote it. They altered your body. Did something impossible. Made it so you could survive with just a Yang soul.”
He tilted his head slightly. “That was a miracle, kid. Truly.”
But his tone changed again—sharpened.
“It wasn’t a permanent solution. More like… a bandage over a cracked dam. One that only held together because you were dormant. Before awakening, your body wasn’t putting pressure on your soul. Your cultivation was too weak to strain it.”
He floated back a little, gaze somber. “But now? Now you’ve awakened. You’ve stepped into the Adept Rank. You’ve grown stronger in body, spirit, and essence. And now—your soul can’t keep up.”
Max clenched his fists, the weight of the words pressing down on him.
“I just barely survived the Wrath of the World… and now there’s this?” he muttered.
Blob didn’t offer comfort. Only the truth.
Max’s voice was sharp now, a tinge of frustration slipping through. “I upgraded to Adept Rank just now. I absorbed the entire Sinful Bone Frame’s soul which I trapped back in the Soul Palace. My soul’s already turned yellow. It has become a yellow soul. Hasn’t it? Doesn’t that mean something?”
“That’s not what I mean, kid,” Blob said, shaking his head.
“You can strengthen your soul all you want. Yellow soul, green soul, blue soul—doesn’t matter. You only have half of what a soul should be.”
“Half.”
“Your Yang soul is growing, yes—but there’s no Yin to balance it. No opposite force to stabilize it. And that’s why your soul is already starting to falter. That’s why you just collapsed. It wasn’t from external damage or fatigue. It was your own power putting too much strain on a half-soul.”
He floated silently for a moment before adding, “This time, you were lucky. Your Yang soul endured. But the more you grow, the heavier the burden on it will be. And eventually…”
Max looked away, jaw clenched.
“…Eventually, it’ll snap,” Blob finished. “And when that happens, Max, you won’t have a second chance.”
Max didn’t speak.
He sat there in silence, face pale, thoughts racing.
He had survived, monsters, dungeons, the wrath of the world itself.

But the greatest threat to his life… was already inside him.
Max turned to Blob, hope flickering in his eyes despite the heaviness of the conversation.
“Is there a way to… you know, fix this?” he asked. “To cure it?”
Blob floated in silence for a moment before slowly shrugging his small arms.
“I don’t know,” he admitted. “This is the first time I’ve ever seen someone alive with only one part of their soul. A full soul requires balance—Yin and Yang. Without one, you’re not supposed to survive, let alone fight monsters and defy the world.”
He rubbed the back of his head, his brows furrowed. “But… maybe the one who saved you back then—the one who did the impossible—maybe they could do something more.”
Max sighed.
“Yeah, well… I don’t even remember how I lost my Yin soul,” he muttered. “Let alone who saved me that day.”
His voice dipped into quiet frustration, but he shook his head and took a deep breath. “Anyway, there’s no point in getting stuck on it now. I’ll deal with it when it actually becomes a problem.”
He pushed himself to his feet and began walking toward the exit of the underground shelter.
“For now, I need to move forward.”
As he climbed to the surface, light from the Mourning Depths’ eerie sky bathed his face, and he grinned with excitement.
“We’re going to hunt down as many infernal beings as possible while making our way to find Alice.”
Blob floated up beside him, letting the previous conversation fade for now. “As you say,” he replied with a nod.
And just like that—they moved forward.
—
The next several days were a blur of movement, battle, and blood.
Max traversed the twisting terrain of the Mourning Depths with practiced ease, and with Blob assisting him—scouting, warning, guiding—he avoided the worst of the infernal traps and ambushes.
Each day brought new fights. Each fight brought new power.
He faced down hordes of infernal beasts, clashed with corrupted monsters, and endured battles that would have broken lesser men. But through it all, he prevailed.
And with every infernal being he killed, the Infernal Demon Tattoo etched into his right palm grew stronger.
By the fifth day, five distinct layers now curled around the tattoo’s blood-red core, like concentric circles pulsing with dark energy.
“I can feel it,” Max muttered, holding up his hand as the tattoo pulsed with malevolent power. “A dark energy… flowing through me.”
He paused.
It didn’t feel violent. Not like before, when he used his black flames to absorb infernal energy—those times, the energy was destructive, chaotic, and painful, tearing at his organs like wildfire.
But this?
This energy felt controlled. Smooth. Tamed.
It moved through his veins like an obedient stream, powerful but not out of control.
“It’s strange,” he said. “But this Infernal Demon Tattoo… it really does tame the infernal energy. It’s like it knows how to handle it.”
He focused and activated the tattoo.
Instantly, a dark forcefield materialized around him, almost like a dome of cursed energy—with Max at its center. Inside the field, he could feel the infernal energy responding to him, bending slightly to his will.
He could command it.
“Within this field… I can control infernal energy directly,” he whispered in awe.
The Blob floated nearby, watching intently.
“This tattoo…” he said suddenly, voice thoughtful, “why do you think it can even be formed here? Why is it that the Mourning Depths is the only place where someone can awaken the Infernal Demon Tattoo?”
Max looked down at his palm again, then shrugged.
“I have no idea,” he admitted. “But yeah… it is suspicious.”
He thought for a moment before adding, “I guess this is why King Magnar and the other leaders keep exploring the Mourning Depths. It’s not just about infernal beasts or treasure. It’s about solving the mystery of this place.”
He clenched his fist, watching the tattoo glow faintly.
