Chapter 381: Rules of the Tower of Truth
After understanding how the Tower of Truth truly functioned, Max’s gaze swept across the vast chamber. He looked at the gathering of humans, demons, elves, and other foreign races—each one bearing the same fire in their eyes, the same hunger that burned deep within their auras.
‘So this is how it is,’ he thought, his expression calm but eyes cold.
They had been fighting here for who knows how long—killing each other for strength, for life essence, for the right to ascend. Every race, every warrior, was trapped in the same cycle: defeat others to grow stronger. Win to survive. Kill to thrive.
‘This world is a messed-up place,’ Max sighed inwardly.
But despite that, he wasn’t against it.
Not really.
If killing one’s enemies meant progress—meant power—then so be it. It was a brutal truth, but he had long accepted that the path of strength was paved with blood. And more importantly, he didn’t believe it always had to end in death.
Not every battle needed to be fatal.
There were other ways to win.
He could tell, though, that most of the people here didn’t think the same way. For them, victory was incomplete without slaughter.
Still, that wasn’t his concern.
Ignoring the wide-eyed stares from demons and humans alike—those still shocked that a Level 1 Adept had just obliterated a Seeker Rank opponent—Max casually jumped down from the arena.
He landed smoothly beside Princess Lenavira, dusting off his robe like nothing had happened.
“So,” he said again, voice light but pointed, “what are the rules here?”
Lenavira glanced at him, her golden eyes assessing, before she answered.
“You can challenge anyone to a fight in the arena,” she said. “Likewise, if someone challenges you, you can choose to accept… or reject.”
Max raised an eyebrow. “So no forced battles.”
She nodded. “Correct. But when it comes to ascending floors, you have two options—either win ten consecutive battles on your current floor, or remain unchallenged for three full days.”
She paused briefly before adding, “Only then will the tower permit you to enter the next floor.”
Max nodded slowly, absorbing every word.
“Oh, and one more thing,” Lenavira added, flicking a lock of golden hair behind her shoulder. “Killing your opponent isn’t mandatory. You just need to win. That’s all the tower requires.”
Max exhaled softly through his nose, unsurprised.
‘Just as I thought. Victory is enough. But even then… people here will still kill. Not because they have to—’
‘—but because they want to.’
That was something no rule could ever change.
Max then turned to Crown Prince Aelric, his voice light but with a hint of anticipation.
“Where are the others? I want to meet them.”
Aelric smiled. “They should be on the third or fourth floor by now, but don’t worry—I’ll send word. I’ll call them tonight.”
Max nodded, satisfied. There’s still some time before nightfall, he thought. He’d have to wait a bit longer to reunite with his friends.
His gaze then shifted to Princess Lenavira.

“I can go to your kingdom,” he said bluntly, “but the truth is—I don’t trust you. Or the elves.”
His words were direct, even harsh, but he didn’t sugarcoat it. He had no reason to.
Max’s eyes narrowed slightly. He didn’t understand how she knew his connection to Freya—his sister. No one on the Valora Continent could confirm that bond. It wasn’t public knowledge. It wasn’t something even he fully understood. Yet this elf princess, from an entirely different continent, seemed to know.
That alone set off alarm bells.
Add to that the general mystery surrounding the elves—their secrecy, their arrogance, their long histories of manipulation and hidden agendas—and Max wasn’t about to walk blindly into their world.
Princess Lenavira closed her eyes for a brief moment. When she opened them again, her tone was calm, but unwavering.
“If that’s the case,” she said solemnly, “then I’ll keep following you… until I earn your trust.”
Max blinked, mildly surprised by her response.
He let out a small, wry chuckle. “You know,” he said, “that’s not exactly how you gain someone’s trust.”
“But it’s the only way I know,” she replied, her voice steady and sincere. “I don’t know how else to prove myself to you.”
Max sighed and shook his head, but he didn’t argue.
“Do as you wish.”
He had already made up his mind. He wouldn’t step foot in the elf kingdom until he knew more—until he had answers. Just because they claimed to know Freya didn’t mean he could trust them. Rushing in blind would be no different than walking into a trap.
And he wasn’t ready to gamble his life on vague promises and royal words.
Just then, a sudden pressure swept across the area.
“You’re the new human… the one who killed some of our people outside the Cursed Zone?”
A deep, grating voice cut through the air.
Max turned to see a group of demons heading straight toward him. Their aura was heavy, hostile. At the front of the group were two imposing figures—both at the 5th level of Seeker Rank. Their presence alone was enough to make the nearby crowd instinctively step aside, forming a clear path for them.
They stopped just a few feet from Max, locking eyes with him.
“Are you that human?” one of the lead demons asked, his expression hard, his voice low and dangerous.
Max didn’t flinch. “Correct,” he said calmly. “I killed them.”
The two demons narrowed their eyes, studying him more closely. On the surface, Max’s strength was only at the 1st level of the Adept Rank. And yet… their scouts had reported otherwise. Their Seeker Rank comrades—strong, seasoned warriors—had been wiped out by this same boy.
It didn’t add up.
“You’re just a kid,” one of them growled. “Who the hell are you really?”
“Yeah,” the other sneered. “We’re all dying to know what kind of monster hides under that human skin.”
But before Max could respond, another wave of spiritual pressure swept in from the side—refined, yet suffocating. This time, it was the elves.
