Chapter 405: A Cruel Fate
“No!” Caelira screamed, her voice cracking with despair as tears streamed from her eyes. Her body was broken, blood still dripping from her mouth, but her arms reached forward as if she could stop the beams with nothing but a mother’s love.

Max’s father, still kneeling and gasping for breath, clenched his fists as he watched in silence, helpless. His eyes dimmed, not from pain—but from hopelessness, watching the attack that would take his son away before his very eyes.

But just before the beams could reach Max—a brilliant golden dome exploded into existence around him. A forcefield made of glowing runes and divine light surrounded both him and Freya, humming with a power that didn’t belong to this world.

The beams of attack were all deflected away by the forcefield and some shattered.

“I won’t let you touch him.” Freya’s voice was cold, her eyes sharp as steel. She stood with one hand raised, holding a golden crystal pendant, glowing like a miniature sun. It was a sacred treasure—one their mother had given her long ago, meant to be used only when death was certain.

The pendant had activated the forcefield, deflecting Valen’s attack with a loud cracking sound as the beams shattered into sparks against the divine barrier.

“Tch… so she had a treasure and it’s a forcefield treasure of Primordial Rank,” Darian Flameborne growled, stepping forward. “With her energy she could only use the treasure for a few hours or so. Then we just kill the parents first. What do you think?” He asked looking at others.

“Agreed,” Selaria Moonshade whispered, her fingers weaving glowing blue threads in the air as a massive soul bind seal took shape.

“End them,” Reign Duskblade said simply, unsheathing both swords as his aura surged.

“Make the child watch, maybe he would surrender,” Iris Vale said coldly, her voice like a winter wind as shadows coiled around her.

And then they attacked—all five at once.

Valen’s spear shot out a thousand beams of piercing emerald light aimed at Caelira’s heart. Selaria released a spiraling curse wheel made of soul chains to crush her spirit. Darian summoned a flaming phoenix the size of the sky and sent it hurtling toward their father.

Iris raised her hand and called forth skeletal dragons, their roars echoing through the broken palace. Reign charged in with both swords drawn, his slashes cracking space itself as they closed in on their targets.

“No, no, no…” Max muttered, his voice trembling as he stood frozen in place, watching the horror unfold before him. His eyes stayed locked on his parents—his mother, Caelira, bleeding and barely conscious, her hand weakly reaching toward him, and his father, hunched over with a deep wound across his chest, barely able to breathe. They couldn’t move, couldn’t even lift their arms to protect themselves.

And then, as Max turned his eyes toward the five enemies—each of them unleashing monstrous attacks aimed not at him but at his already broken parents—he felt his knees buckle.

A giant flaming phoenix roared toward his father, soul chains spun toward his mother, spectral dragons came crashing down from the sky, blades ripped through space toward them, and countless beams of light bore down like divine punishment.

Max’s heart pounded louder than ever before, the sound of his own heartbeat mixing with the shrieking chaos outside. The weight of it all crushed his young spirit—the powerlessness, the fear, the sorrow—it was too much.

Tears blurred his vision as he whispered again, “No…” But then his body trembled, not from fear… but from something building deep inside. Something vast. Something untamed. Something divine.

“NO!” Max’s scream ripped through the battlefield like a thunderclap, his voice filled with pain, fury, and something ancient. At that moment, something deep inside him snapped. The grief of seeing his parents on the verge of death, the rage of being targeted since birth, the sorrow of having his peaceful world shattered—all of it exploded at once.

A golden light erupted from within him, his hair shimmering with golden streaks, his aura bursting outward in a wave that shook the entire palace grounds. The air cracked, the earth split beneath his feet, and even the sky above seemed to recoil.

In that single instant, Max awakened a fragment of his Divine Bloodline.

And then—everything changed.

His body glowed.

A brilliant golden aura burst from within him, shaking the air. His black hair turned streaked with gold, his eyes became bright like burning suns. The earth cracked beneath his feet. The skies above twisted, bending toward his presence.

In that instant—he had awakened a fraction of his Divine Bloodline.

Max raised his hand, and with one wave, a shockwave of divine energy erupted from him like a tidal wave.

BOOM!

The attacks headed for his parents were instantly obliterated, swallowed by the wave of golden force. The phoenix vanished, the dragons shattered, the soul curse broke, the swords stopped mid-air, and the beams of light were devoured.

And worse for the enemies—they were all sent flying.

Valen, Selaria, Darian, Iris, and Reign—the Five Executioners—were hurled backward like ragdolls, crashing through pillars, trees, and walls, coughing blood as they hit the ground with force they had never imagined a child could possess.

Freya turned to her brother, wide-eyed.

He wasn’t the same boy anymore.

Max stood there, surrounded by golden flames, his face blank—but his aura screamed with divine wrath.

“Max? What happened to you?” Freya asked, standing beside him, her voice shaky with worry. But Max didn’t reply. He just stood there, his body surrounded by a golden light, eyes glowing faintly, his expression blank like his soul had slipped away.

“It’s his bloodline,” Caelira said weakly, struggling to lift her head. Her voice trembled as she tried to speak louder, despite the pain wracking her body. “He just awakened his Divine Bloodline… Freya, you and him need to escape. Use the Void Stone. Now.”

But before Freya could act, a cold voice sneered through the air. “Nobody is going anywhere.”

In a blink, Selaria Moonshade appeared in front of Max. Her icy blue eyes locked onto his, and her slender hand gently touched his head, as if in mock affection. Her smile twisted into something cruel. She looked past Max, straight at Caelira, her voice dripping with venom. “You know the real reason we came here. Not just to kill him… but to claim his Divine Bloodline. It’s too precious to be wasted on a child. We want it all for ourselves.”

As she spoke, the hand resting on Max’s head began to glow with a dark green light, pulsing with sinister energy that shimmered with soul-consuming power.

“But first… I need to destroy his soul.” Her tone was cold and merciless, her eyes narrowing with focused hatred.

“No!” Freya shouted, raising her arm to activate the Primordial Rank treasure once more. But just as she did, Selaria’s free hand lashed out—a flash of green energy bursting from her palm.

Boom!

Freya was blasted back violently, crashing into a pillar with a gasp. “Aghhh!” she cried out, the treasure slipping from her hand and skidding across the floor.

And then… Max screamed.

The sound tore through the hall, filled with pain beyond anything a child should ever feel. Agonizing, soul-ripping pain. His body trembled, his mouth open in a voiceless cry as his knees hit the floor. The pain was constant—merciless—not even allowing him to faint.

It stripped away his strength, piece by piece. His limbs grew weak. His vision blurred. His breath slowed. He could feel himself slipping—his memories fading, his thoughts scattering, like his mind was falling into a dark, endless sleep.

Then, in one brutal moment, Selaria’s other hand pierced directly into his chest, right over his heart.
