Chapter 444: A Plan Against Monarch
Max went quiet, his gaze drifting toward the far end of the hall where the chambers lay hidden in shadows. After a short pause, he spoke in a low, thoughtful voice. “I’ll check out the Chamber of Concepts before I leave the Lost Continent.” The words hung in the air like a whisper carried on the wind.

“Leaving?” Alice, who had been silently standing by his side, turned toward him in surprise. Her brows furrowed slightly as she asked, “Where are you going?” There was a trace of concern in her tone, a flicker of something unspoken in her eyes.

“I…” Max hesitated, unsure of what to say. The words caught in his throat. He didn’t want to lie, but he definitely couldn’t tell her the truth either.

He hadn’t told Alice about his soul problem—not even once—and he had no intention of doing so. If she knew, she’d worry, and that would only slow down her progress in comprehending her Concepts. Max didn’t want that. She needed to focus on her own path, not carry the weight of his burden.

Just as the silence stretched too long, Princess Lenavira stepped in, turning her gaze to Alice. “He plans to head to the North Region of the Valora Continent for a secret mission only he could do,” she said calmly, “because the Citadel of Atherion is set to descend in a year and three months from now.”

Max shot her a look, thankful for her smooth intervention. ‘Thanks,’ he sent to her through a vital essence voice transmission, and Lenavira simply gave a small nod in return.

But Alice wasn’t done. Her brows knit in confusion, her eyes searching Max’s face. “Why? Why would you need to go to the North Region? And what secret mission?” she asked again, her curiosity deepening.

Max coughed lightly, buying himself a moment, then began to speak. “I heard from Aelric,” he said, “that if we can form alliances with the elves and the humans from this continent, we might stand a real chance against the Young Monarch. But that’s only if we’re certain of their support.”

He glanced away briefly, then added, “That’s why I’ll be taking a handwritten letter from King Magnar himself to the Witch of the North. If she agrees to help, we might be able to form a united front. The final battle against the Monarch… it’ll take place in the Citadel of Atherion.”

The words spilled from his mouth—half instinct, half improvisation—but the more he spoke, the more it made sense in his mind. It didn’t even feel like a lie anymore. In fact, it sounded like a plan. A real one.

And as the idea took shape, something within him began to believe it too. ‘If I can really pull this off,’ he thought, ‘if I can unite the East, West, and North of Valora Continent along with the humans and elves of the Lost Continent…’ His eyes narrowed slightly. ‘Maybe we’ll actually stand a chance against the Monarch.’

It was a long shot, Max knew that. But even the smallest hope was better than sitting still and waiting for fate to crush them. If there was even the slightest chance that he could unite the scattered powers of the two continents and rally them against the Monarch, then it was worth trying.

Besides, he had to go to the North Region anyway—he needed to find the Witch of the North, not just to deliver some fabricated letter, but to request her to cure his soul.

Just as that thought passed through his mind, he felt a shift in the atmosphere, a subtle ripple in his senses. He turned his head forward, and there, standing just a few steps away, were two familiar figures—Adam and Fagus.

They were both human, like him, and yet there was a quiet weight in their expressions that told Max they hadn’t come for a casual chat. Adam stepped forward first, his tone calm but solemn. “Max, we know the humans of this continent haven’t treated you the way you deserve,” he said, his voice low and sincere. “So… please accept our apology.” Without hesitation, he bowed deeply, and beside him, Fagus did the same, lowering his head with quiet dignity.

The sight caught Max off guard. His eyes widened slightly, and he took a half step forward, flustered.

“What are you two doing?” he asked, his voice tinged with surprise and embarrassment. He hadn’t expected this—didn’t want this kind of gesture. “If anything, I should be the one thanking you both,” he continued, his gaze moving between them. “You stood up to Craig when no one else dared to. That… meant more to me than you know. And I’m truly grateful.” His voice softened as he spoke, the sincerity in his words reflecting just how much that moment had stayed with him.

Adam and Fagus slowly lifted their heads, their eyes meeting Max’s with a newfound calmness, a sense of understanding that went beyond words.

“If you have any free time,” Adam said with a small smile, “please do visit our Moon Faction of the Saint Human Alliance. Everything you’ve been wondering about… all your questions will be answered there.”

There was a quiet weight behind his words, as though he knew things Max hadn’t yet grasped.

Max didn’t hesitate. He nodded with quiet resolve. “I will. I promise.” And he meant it.

With the growing threat of the Monarch looming ahead, he knew he couldn’t fight this war alone. If there was a place where he could find answers, allies, or even insight into his own fragmented soul, he needed to go there.

Besides, now that he was planning to unite the forces of the continent, building ties with the Moon Faction—one of the key human forces on the Lost Continent—was no longer a choice, but a necessity.

Adam gave him a nod of approval, his expression relaxed. Fagus smiled faintly as he stepped back. “Alright then,” Adam said, “now that the situation here has been dealt with, we’ll take our leave.”

Just before turning away, Fagus paused and glanced back at Max. His tone was light, but the sincerity was unmistakable. “Be sure to come by,” he said. “We’ll be waiting.” With that, the two of them walked off, leaving Max standing there with a promise in his heart and a new thread of fate tying him to the Moon Faction.
