‘I have four skills to level up… So I should be done in about a week.’ Max thought, wondering if he should go for another dungeon run after this or lay low for a while.
It was then that he recalled the skill scroll Mimi had given him.
‘I completely forgot about it,’ Max thought, pulling out the scroll.
He checked the skill’s name, and what he saw made his breath catch in excitement.
[Upgrade Scroll]
“An upgrade scroll!” Max exclaimed in shock as his eyes widened. “Mimi gave me an upgrade scroll!” He couldn’t believe that he was holding one in his hands.
An upgrade scroll could raise the rank of any skill by one level. For example, if Max wanted, he could upgrade his common-rank Magic Bullets skill to an uncommon-rank one using this scroll.
This made the upgrade scroll one of the most sought-after items in the world. But, in order to maintain balance, the scroll was very rarely found.
One would be lucky if they even heard about an upgrade scroll in their lifetime, let alone see one or possess it.
However, the best feature of the upgrade scroll was that, even after upgrading a skill, the user could still use the previous rank skill as if nothing had changed while practicing the newly upgraded skill.
Because of this, there was no need to worry about losing the previous skill while learning the higher-rank version.
But like everything in the world, the upgrade scroll had its limitations.

A skill could only be upgraded once with an upgrade scroll. The same skill couldn’t be upgraded twice. Most importantly, once a skill was upgraded to a higher rank, it would no longer be able to level up further.
‘This is perfect for me, someone who already has all his skills at level 100. There’s no more room to level up anyway, so the limitations don’t affect me.’ A smirk crept across Max’s face as excitement surged through him, feeling as though the upgrade scroll had been made specifically for him.
But then a question arose in Max’s mind, and once it surfaced, he couldn’t shake it off.
“Is there a level beyond 100?” he muttered, his curiosity piqued. He had tried a few times in the Dimension of Time last time, but he couldn’t progress any further after reaching level 100.
‘Though I thought it was the limit and didn’t practice much after reaching level 100,’ Max mused, wondering if there truly was a realm beyond level 100.
For all he knew, a skill could only be leveled up to 100. That was common knowledge—something almost everyone knew.
But what if there was a realm beyond level 100?
What if humans, or even all the races in the world, were confined to this ceiling? What if level 100 was merely the limit of their comprehension? What if it wasn’t the end, but a barrier—one they had yet to overcome?
The thought gnawed at him, sparking curiosity and a faint sense of unease.
“For the general consensus, mastering a skill to level 5 is considered good, reaching level 10 marks a genius, and level 15 is the realm of monsters,” Max muttered to himself, his gaze distant. “But level 20? That’s where most people give up, moving on to something new because the time and effort required become too overwhelming.”
Only those who had lived for hundreds of years could ever hope to achieve something as remotely high as level 50, let alone reach the elusive level 100.
Most individuals, bound by the limitations of time, could only dream of such feats, as the demands of life and the progression of age made such aspirations seem almost impossible.
One simply couldn’t dedicate all their time to mastering just one skill. Even if someone tried, the monotony of practicing the same thing every day would likely wear them down, ultimately stalling their progress.
However, there was another possibility—what if someone didn’t get bored? What if someone pushed past those limits, transcending the barriers that most would give in to?
Max clenched his fist, his eyes gleaming with determination. “I’ve already mastered several skills to level 100. Whether or not a realm exists beyond that, I owe it to myself to find out. I should at least give it a try.” He resolved.
He then paused for a moment and clapped his hands. “Alright, I’ve decided. After leveling up the new skills to level 100, I’ll still have two weeks left. I’ll use that time to see if a realm beyond level 100 exists.”
Having made up his mind, Max put away the upgrade scroll for now and calmed himself down before heading to bed.
‘Alright, let’s enter the Dimension of Time,’ he thought, his mind spiraling away.
After a moment of darkness, Max found himself again in the world of clouds, but this time there were two doors in front of him.
One had a clock-shaped mark, and the other, what appeared to be a water droplet.
“That’s a very strange mark for a spirit,” Max muttered, his curiosity piqued. He opened the door to the Dimension of Spirits and stepped inside. He wanted to see what this dimension was like.
“Woah!” Max exclaimed at the scene before him.
As far as his eyes could see, a vast expanse of green grass stretched endlessly across the land, blending seamlessly into the horizon. Along with it were hundreds of floating islands, each hovering gracefully in the air, with waterfalls cascading down toward the ground below.
‘This is beautiful.’
The scene was surreal, almost like something out of a dream, yet it felt impossibly real.
Max couldn’t shake the feeling of being transported back to the VR games he used to play, but the experience here was far more tangible—infinitely more impactful.
The atmosphere hummed with a strange, almost otherworldly energy, drawing him deeper into this unfamiliar yet captivating place.
“If only the Dimension of Time were this beautiful…” Max muttered softly, a bitter sorrow tugging at his heart. Tears began to roll down his cheeks as he thought about the fate that awaited him in that hellish place.
The thought of spending countless years in that grim, unforgiving realm felt like an unbearable weight on his soul, especially when compared to the peaceful serenity of this land.
“I guess every power comes with a price,” Max muttered, sighing and wiping away his precious tears.
“According to the information I got, this Dimension of Spirits can naturally give birth to new spirits over time, but that process is very slow. However, it did mention that I can create up to five spirits by using my blood as a seed.” He contemplated the information about the Dimension of Spirits in his head and made a decision.
