Chapter 55: Recruitment Test Begins
The man leading the group was a middle-aged individual with slightly blue-colored hair that reached his shoulders. He wore blue, knight-like attire and surveyed the crowd gathered before the gates of the Phoenix Order Guild.
“I am Ryan, and I will be the supervisor for this recruitment test,” he introduced himself, his voice loud and clear. “The doors will open in a few seconds, but only those whose names are called should enter.”
Shortly after, another man emerged from behind Ryan, a list floating above his holowatch. He appeared to be carrying a heavy shield on his back and had a large, muscular build to support it.
“Lukas Viskor,” he announced.
Moments later, a young man, around 18 years old, stood before the slowly opening gate. He walked through the door, and waiting on the other side was a man holding a glass sphere. This man, with a beard but no hair on his head, looked at Lukas and instructed, “Touch the sphere.”
Everyone from the other side of the door had their eyes locked on Lukas as he stepped forward and touched the sphere.
The moment he made contact, the sphere began to shine with bright light, and a number appeared on its surface.
“15.”
The bald man adjusted his glasses and announced, “Affinity level – 15, low-rank affinity.”
Lukas sighed when he saw the result, though he wasn’t disappointed.
“You can step aside for the time being,” Ryan, the supervisor, instructed Lukas, gesturing for him to stand behind him.
Lukas nodded and walked to the side.
Max observed the entire process but was left with many questions. He wondered if the result of this test would affect the overall outcome and was curious about how an affinity to any element could be categorized.
“Next, Roman Vas,” the heavily built man called.
Another young man stepped through the door and touched the sphere. It shone brightly, and the number ’37’ appeared on the sphere.
The bald man glanced at the sphere and announced, “Affinity level – 37, average-rank affinity.”
The crowd reacted, clearly surprised by Roman’s affinity to fire.
“This guy has a very high affinity for fire. You don’t see average-rank affinity to fire every day.”
“You’re right, and even within the average rank, his level is quite high.”
“I wonder if he’s from one of the top families in the Dustfall District.”
“This guy has a high chance of being recruited into the guild.”
Max heard them talking and became even more confused.
‘Let’s see if the extranet has any rankings for affinity,’ he thought, tapping his holowatch and searching for affinity rankings on the extranet.

‘I see,’ Max thought, understanding the rankings and levels. ‘I wonder what rank of affinity I would have.’ While he knew his class had no relation to the fire element, his skills related to fire had maxed out at level 100. He couldn’t tell whether his affinity would be low or high.
‘Let’s wait for my turn,’ Max thought, patiently observing the others as they took the test one by one.
The young men and women continued taking the test, standing behind Ryan after their results were announced. Some had high-rank affinities, while others possessed low-rank affinities.
“Eren Volfire,” came the next name.
‘It’s him,’ Max thought as he watched Eren walk up to the gate and touch the sphere.
As soon as Eren touched it, the sphere began to glow with bright light, and the number ’42’ appeared on the top.
The bald man checked the sphere and announced, “Affinity level – 42, high rank.”
‘Level 42, high rank,’ Max mused, wondering if his Infernal Coating skill, which had blocked every attack from Eren, indicated that his affinity for fire might actually surpass Eren’s.
‘I’m really curious now,’ Max thought, waiting to see more.
After Eren, many others took their tests, but none surpassed the high-rank affinity of level 41-50. Max speculated that this might be the limit of talent in the Inner Region of Dustfall District.
“Lyra Duskshade,” was the next name announced.
Max saw a dark violet-haired woman, about 18 years old, step through the door and touch the sphere. It shone brightly, and a number appeared.
“55.”
“Affinity level – 55, very high rank,” the bald man announced.
As soon as the announcement was made, the crowd erupted in surprise. There had been no very high-rank affinities so far, and suddenly, out of nowhere, someone surpassed everyone else with such a high affinity.
“Who is this young lady? She has an exceptionally high rank for her affinity to fire.”
“I don’t know, but I’m sure she’ll be famous in the future with her talent.”
“Her fire affinity alone should be enough for the guild to recruit her.”
The crowd felt that with such a high affinity for fire, Lyra would easily be accepted into the Phoenix Order Guild.
Meanwhile, Max pondered as he watched Lyra with such a high affinity for fire.
‘She has such a high level of fire affinity, but she didn’t use any fire-related skills during the test back at the General’s quarters,’ he mused, realizing that she had been hiding her strength.
After Lyra, more individuals tested their affinity. Finally, Max’s name was called.
“Max Morgan.”
Max stepped forward and touched the sphere. It began to glow with bright white light, and a number appeared on the sphere.
“4.”
Max stared at the number blankly, wondering if he was dreaming. ‘How could it be so low?’ he thought inwardly, horrified.
At that moment, the bald man checked the sphere and flinched back upon seeing the number.
“How could this be?” he muttered, adjusting his glasses and checking again, only to see the number ‘4’ on the sphere.
He glanced at Max with a strange expression and announced, “Affinity level 4, very low rank.”
“…”
“…”
A strange silence followed the announcement before chaos erupted from the crowd.
“What?! How could someone have such low affinity? This kid has almost no affinity for fire.”
“Damn, I thought someone with a low-rank affinity would have the lowest affinity, but there’s someone with very low-rank affinity.”
“With such a low affinity for fire, he dares to participate in the recruitment test?”
“Look at his strength. He’s only at level 6, and with almost no affinity for fire, he still came to take the recruitment test. This kid must be a joke.”
“What? Level 6? How could someone with such low strength be here for the recruitment test? Is he serious?”
After criticizing his low affinity, the crowd also noticed Max’s strength and became dumbfounded. They couldn’t understand how someone with such low strength could participate in the recruitment for the prestigious Phoenix Order Guild.
