Chapter 63: Battle Realm
“No… They were struck at their bodies as well.” Max frowned, watching some of them collapse to the ground, tears streaming down their faces.
“Take it.” Grandma Yu threw a vial to each of them.
The eleven people gritted their teeth and drank whatever was inside the vials.
“Aggghhh!”
They began screaming the moment they swallowed the liquid.
“What’s happening to them?” Max asked anxiously, turning to Alice.
“Just watch,” Alice replied, smiling.
Max nodded and swallowed hard as he watched them endure such pain.
After a moment, they all went silent and stood up as if nothing had happened. In fact, there were even smiles hanging on their faces, and they appeared visibly excited.
Most importantly, the swollen marks covering their bodies had vanished without a trace, as if the torture from moments earlier had never occurred.
“What happened?” Max asked, turning to Alice.
Alice smiled and explained, “Since they were defeated in the Battle Realm five times in a row, they had to suffer punishment. But afterward, Grandma Yu gave them a vial of Ember Essence, which should’ve slightly increased their control over flames.”
Max nodded, his face solemn in contemplation. “I guess Ember Essence is a very volatile resource, and it couldn’t be digested normally. Hence, the beating they took, right?”
“Correct.” Alice nodded and looked at Max strangely, wondering if this guy wasn’t as dumb as she had imagined him to be.
“Now, everyone else dismissed,” Grandma Yu shouted.
The crowd sighed in relief and began scattering around.
“Follow me,” Grandma Yu said as she walked off in a particular direction.
Max and Alice exchanged glances before quietly following her.

After a few minutes of walking, Grandma Yu led them into a vast hall dominated by a gigantic black cube. The sheer size of it was overwhelming—so massive that Max couldn’t see either end of the structure, as though it stretched endlessly into the distance.
Its surface was smooth and gleaming, absorbing the surrounding light and giving it an eerie, otherworldly presence.
The rest of the hall buzzed with activity, filled with guild members moving in and out of the black cube as if it were part of their daily routine. Some walked briskly, focused and determined, while others exited with relaxed ease, chatting with companions.
The flow of people seemed so natural that the cube’s imposing presence felt oddly familiar to those accustomed to it.
“A Battle Cube of this size?” Max muttered in shock, his voice barely above a whisper. The sheer scale of the structure dwarfed anything he had ever seen. Compared to the one in the generals’ quarters, this was like comparing an ant to an elephant.
One was so vast its full size seemed impossible to comprehend, stretching endlessly beyond his line of sight, while the other now felt insignificant in comparison.
At that moment, Grandma Yu turned to Max and said, “Max, go and fight three matches in the Battle Realm. You can only be a part of the Arcane Order if you win all three matches.”
Max nodded silently, though the words _”That’s it?”_ nearly escaped his lips. The memory of what had happened to the eleven people earlier flashed through his mind, and he forced his mouth shut. He had no intention of getting anywhere near that stick Grandma Yu was holding—ever.
“Alright, go in,” Grandma Yu said.
Max glanced at her briefly before stepping toward the black cube. He paused for a moment, as if considering something, then strode forward. The wall’s surface rippled slightly as he passed through it, and in the blink of an eye, he disappeared inside.
What greeted Max was unlike anything he had ever seen before.

The space within was vast—hundreds, no, perhaps even thousands of times larger than the cube he had entered. It felt like stepping into another world entirely.
At the far edges of this seemingly boundless realm stood countless blue-colored, shining doors, stretching endlessly into the horizon. These doors formed a circular barrier around the world, their arrangement ascending in tiers, each door set a step higher than the last.
Stairs wound up beside them, providing a clear path for anyone wishing to climb and explore further. The entire realm glowed with a soft purple hue, its atmosphere surreal and dreamlike, as if it existed outside the bounds of reality.
Despite the immense size of this world, it was teeming with people. Groups gathered around the stairs, engaged in conversation, while others moved purposefully toward the center of the realm in smaller clusters.
Above them, numerous screens hovered midair, displaying battles in vivid detail. Many people stood still, their gazes locked on the screens, mesmerized by the fierce clashes unfolding before them.
‘This is the true Battle Realm!’ Max exclaimed silently, his eyes shining as he looked around in wonder. The small hall in the generals’ quarters Battle Cube was a joke compared to this world.
He quickly realized he was standing in front of one of the countless doors. His name, ‘Max,’ was written sharply at the top of the shining blue-colored door.
At that moment, a screen appeared in front of him.
‘It’s not from the system,’ Max mused as he checked it.

‘Why is my name written as Max, not Max Voidwalker?’ Max frowned, noticing the odd detail. The system had acknowledged his full name before—it had congratulated him countless times, addressing him as Max Voidwalker.
Yet, he had never seen his full name appear on his status screen.
‘Is there a reason behind this, or is it the same for everyone?’ A sense of unease crept in as he stared at the glowing text. The discrepancy nagged at him, like an itch he couldn’t scratch.
He only noticed this now as he looked at the battle screen beside him.
After thinking for a moment, he put away the status screen and looked at the battle screen again.

‘So it keeps a record of the number of battles one has fought and won.’ Max mused as he stared at the battle screen.
“Little brother… are you new to the Battle Realm?” someone asked, approaching him.
Max turned his head and saw a yellow-haired man. “Yeah, it’s my first time. So how do I fight someone?”
The yellow-haired man smiled kindly and pointed behind Max. “That is your cube, if I’m not mistaken. Any battle you want to fight requires you to first challenge or invite someone. Then, you enter through the door for the battle.”
He added softly, “But since it’s your first battle, you can go directly inside the cube. The Battle Realm has already chosen your first opponent.”
Max pondered his words and understood that for first-timers like him, an opponent would already be selected around his level.
“Thank you for the information.” He said thanking and entered through the shining blue door.
The yellow-haired man watched Max’s back disappear into the door, his expression twisting into a slight sneer.
