Chapter 66: Finding clues about sister
“Alice, show him to his quarters,” Grandma Yu said before walking away.
Max watched her leave and turned to Alice. “Is she mad at me for some reason?”
“Hehe, she doesn’t like arrogant people,” Alice chuckled.
“Am I arrogant?” Max asked, but he suddenly shook his hands. “Forget it, I don’t want to know the answer.”
Alice smiled softly and said, “There’s another reason why she’s mad at you, but you’ll have to figure that out on your own.”
“Another reason?” Max wondered what he had done to offend the old woman.
“Let’s go. I’ll show you where you’ll be living,” Alice said, seeing him pondering.
Max shrugged and followed her.
—
A few minutes of taking turns, Alice led Max to the living quarters.
Max’s eyes widened as he stared at his ‘room.’ He had expected to be given a room, but what stood in front of him was a small house.
Hundreds of similar houses could be seen in this area, making him believe he wasn’t given any special treatment, yet he could live here freely.
“Is this really free?” Max asked again, confirming. He had a hard time believing something as big as this house would be free, even for members of the Phoenix Order guild.
“It’s free, but…” Alice nodded as she looked at Max. “Not entirely. You have to either clear a dungeon three times a month with other members or be strong enough to rank in the top ten in the Battle Realm rankings.”
Max nodded in understanding.
“Let’s exchange contacts,” Alice said, tapping her holowatch.
Max accepted her friend request and exchanged their contacts.
“Alright, I’ll be going now,” Alice said, looking at Max. “If you need anything, just ask me or the guards. They will help you.”
“I’ll make sure to contact you if anything arises,” Max said, smiling, but then he recalled something and hurriedly said, “W-Wait, Alice!”
“Huh? What happened?” Alice asked, turning around.
Max’s expression turned solemn as he contemplated whether he should ask about his sister. From what he could tell, she seemed to have a very high position in this guild, making Max believe she must have some information about her sister.
“What is it?” Alice asked, seeing the hesitation in Max’s face.
Max took a deep breath and finally let it out. “Do you know anyone by the name of Freya?”
“Freya?” A deep frown appeared on Alice’s face as she heard the name. “Why do you ask that?”
Max’s eyes gleamed as he saw the change in her expression. “Ten years ago, my Aunt Freya joined the guild. I wanted to know if she’s still here or not.”
“Ten years ago?” Alice’s expression eased up. “I’ll see what I can do. If she is in this guild, I’ll contact you.”
Max nodded and looked at her strangely. “Why did you suddenly become so tense when I asked about Freya?” he asked, smiling.
“Never mind that.” Alice shook her hand, dismissing the topic before saying, “Alright, I’ll see you soon, I guess.” She walked away, saying that.
Max watched her back with a smile, but as she disappeared from his sight, his smile faded, replaced by a troubled expression. “Strange, her reaction to hearing ‘Freya’ was very strange,” he muttered, as he stood at the front door of his house.

The door opened, and Max entered his house. He scanned the entire house quickly before lying down on his bed.
‘Did big sis cause trouble in the guild?’ Max wondered. He couldn’t focus after what had just happened. He could only think of this reason as to why hearing her name would change Alice’s expression so much.
‘Oh, right.’ Max swiftly stood up and went to a neatly organized table.
He waved his hand at the red dot at the top, and a semi-holographic screen appeared in front of him, with a similar holographic keyboard appearing on the table.
‘There should be some files about the guild’s members, right?’ Max thought as he browsed the guild’s server and found the members’ section.
[Freya Voidwalker] he searched there, but the results were blank.
He frowned at this and changed the name to [Freya Morgan], but again the result came up blank.
Max’s frown deepened as he saw that.
“Let me try something else,” Max muttered and tried a different name: [Alice Fireborne].
Some information about her came up, but it had no photos or anything. It did, however, mention her strength level and which department she was in.
“It seems with my authority, I can only check the strengths of others, and important topics and people are beyond my reach,” Max muttered, feeling down as he leaned back in the chair.
‘It seems the only thing I can do now is ask some other members of the guild about her,’ he thought, pondering. “Alright. I’ll do that first thing in the morning.” Max sat up, deciding what he would do next, and sat cross-legged on his bed.
‘Time to train,’ he mused, entering the Dimension of Time.
—
The next day, Max opened his eyes. ‘I’ve mastered the Magic Sword Bullets to level 40.’
After that, he went ahead and took a bath.
‘I should eat in Phoenix City as well,’ Max mused as he left his house.
After reading the small book Alice had given him yesterday, Max learned that these rows of buildings belonged only to the department of the Arcane Order, and there were six other such departments besides the Arcane Order.
This made Max marvel at how vast the Phoenix Order guild actually was—not just in sheer size and scale, but overall.
All seven departments had different housing quarters, but they shared one city in common: Phoenix City.
The book mentioned that one could find anything in Phoenix City, and members from all seven departments usually spent most of their time there if they weren’t busy with their missions.
‘So this is Phoenix City,’ Max mused as he took in the scene before him.
Beneath a massive, shimmering dome lay a city that seemed to merge the old and the new in perfect harmony. Towering skyscrapers with sleek, modern designs stood side by side with traditional pagoda-style buildings adorned with intricate carvings.
The sky above was alive with activity—majestic flying beasts glided gracefully alongside sleek, futuristic vehicles.
On the ground, the streets bustled with life as hundreds of people moved in and out of the city through various checkpoints.
‘This dome should be made from runes,’ Max mused. He had read about these types of domes in the runes book he had studied.
Seeing everyone headed into the city, Max followed. He noticed many things related to Phoenix, in particular, and from what he could tell, they revered the so-called phoenix bird in this city perhaps a bit too much.
Looking around for a restaurant, Max found one named “Sun’s Delight.” He definitely didn’t laugh at the name and went inside for a meal.
After ordering his food, he waited at a table for four chairs. He sat alone there.
Looking around, he noticed many people—from the young to the old—were busy eating, talking, and laughing. ‘This is a good place to ask someone about big sis, but I have to be subtle,’ Max thought, coming up with a plan as he observed everyone in the group.
He then noticed a group of four young men around his age, eating and laughing.
‘They are the perfect target,’ he decided.
