Chapter 96: Chaos in the Central City -7
“Damn, you truly are something else,” Five muttered, still feeling the shock of the day. He had come to understand what merging two auras really meant. It was harder than it seemed.
First, most people wouldn’t spend their time comprehending a second aura after already mastering their first. Even if they did, in most cases, they would fail to comprehend a second aura.
However, there were still instances where some learned a second type of aura, but that was as far as it went. They would either focus on the first one or completely abandon one after finding it impossible to balance both.
Humans had limited time, and they could only focus on one thing at a time.
Therefore, in such a situation, very few people would even think about comprehending another aura, let alone merging two of them.
“How did you pull it off?” Five asked, his curiosity piqued. “Comprehending Sword Aura is already next to impossible, and you went beyond that—not only learning Flame Aura but even managing to merge the two. Tell me, how did you do it?”
Max smiled, pointing the blade at him. “Let’s just say I have a lot of free time to think and practice.”
Five nodded and smiled. “Well then, show me the true strength of two auras merged together.”
Max glanced at the ever-changing glow of his sword. “The two auras haven’t been perfectly merged yet. What I did was superimpose Flame Aura on top of Sword Aura.”
With those words, he shot off, rocketing toward Five.
“Come!” Five laughed excitedly as he swung his sword.
Max arrived before him and met the attack with his own sword.
Clang!
He was instantly sent flying back, but there was a smile on his face.
“Again!” he shouted and flew toward Five, his sword hacking downward, sending arcs of blue and red slashes at him.
Five smiled and swung his sword in a straight line.
A straight arc of red light released from his sword, instantly destroying Max’s two arcs of slashes. Even after destroying them, the straight arc of light continued toward Max.
Max quickly used the Ten Directional Shields skill, and a red hexagonal shield appeared in front of him.
Bang!
The red arc of light collided with his shield and shattered it completely.
Max quickly formed another hexagonal shield, which finally managed to block the red arc of light before it disintegrated into nothingness.
After that, Max concentrated on his sword and recalled the Intermediate Sword Arts skill. He had mastered it to the Rank of Limitbreaker, so he understood that no matter how basic a skill might be, a Limitbreaker-ranked skill would surely be powerful.
He positioned himself in a stabbing form, his sword aimed directly at Five’s heart.
“Are you really using basic sword moves? Haven’t you learned any sword techniques?” Five asked, his tone a little disappointed.
Max didn’t reply, his entire focus on the sword.
A moment later, he turned to Five and attacked with a simple stab of his sword.
Five smiled and responded with an attack of his own. He swung his sword horizontally in a wide arc to block, and while he did block Max’s sword, the power behind the attack was so great that he was pushed back several meters in the air.
“How can a basic sword move be this powerful?” Five asked, turning to Max, his expression incredulous.
Max smiled and once again attacked, this time with a simple cut.
Five’s expression turned serious as he also attacked with a cut.

Clang!
Both their swords collided, and this time they were at a complete stalemate. Their swords released sparks as they stood close to each other, but neither was pushed back.
“It’s really unsettling to see someone standing toe to toe with a Level 3 Apprentice Rank, a Level 1 Sword Aura, and basic sword moves against someone at Level 7 Adept Rank,” Five said, smiling. His expression turned wild. “But I guess I should stop holding back.”
With those words, the red aura around his sword began to glow even more intensely. Almost instantly, Max felt a sharp pressure acting on him. His sword began to tremble, and before he could react, he found his body rocketing toward the ground.
Bang!
In no time, he crashed, creating a small crater.
‘Was he holding back the entire time?’ Max wondered as he lay on the ground.
He slowly stood up, his clothes dirty and torn here and there, but aside from that, he was completely fine. The protection of five Dragon Scales had been enough to shield him from this kind of fall damage.
‘I need to up my attack power,’ Max mused, using the Abyssal Coating skill.
Instantly, his hands turned pitch black up to his elbows. Even his sword was covered in a layer of black, but it was barely visible due to the ever-changing glow of red and blue on the surface of the sword.
‘The Abyssal Coating skill can absorb any rebound force and nullify any form of attack,’ Max recalled the skill’s description and turned his attention toward Five.
“Come,” Max said, smiling.
Five smiled and slowly landed in front of him.
“Take my sword!” he said, swinging his sword down.
Max’s expression turned serious as he attacked with an upward swing of his sword.
Clang!
The clash of blades rang out like thunder, sending a powerful shockwave rippling outward from the point of impact. Despite the sheer force behind the strike, neither Max nor Five was pushed back—they stood firm, locked in a battle of strength and skill.
Yet, a closer look revealed the strain Max endured. The ground beneath his feet began to crack and fracture, thin lines spiderwebbing outward as if the very earth struggled to bear the weight of their clash.
“I don’t know what skill you used, but it won’t breach the gap between our strength,” Five said, pulling his sword back and swinging it down again.
Not willing to back down, Max did the same.
Clang!
This time, Max was pushed back several steps.
“Again!” Using the Phantom Dash skill, Max’s figure doubled, tripled, quadrupled, and finally ten of him appeared beside him, all attacking Five.
“It doesn’t matter how many of you there are,” Five laughed wildly as he swung his sword horizontally, sending a wide arc of red light flying toward them.
Seeing that, Max combined the speed of the Dash, Super Dash, and Phantom Dash skills and arrived before Five just after he released his red arc of attack.
He swung his sword down at him.
But Five seemed to have anticipated the attack and countered with his own, his sword glowing with deep red aura.
Boom!
This time, Max was blasted into the sky, and all his phantoms were destroyed by the red arc of light.
He stood there in the sky for a moment pondering the entire battle with Five.
‘I am no match for him,’ Max realized. Even though he had yet to use some of his cards, he didn’t believe Five hadn’t been holding back.
Most importantly, Max felt like he was wasting his time here, fighting him instead of looking for other hunters.
“I guess this is it. No matter what skill I use, or what trickery I try, I am no match for you,” Max said, accepting defeat.
Five frowned upon hearing him, his expression darkening.
