Chapter 789: Fledgling and the Eagle

Deep down inside, Adam wanted to one day have a pure one-on-one fight, but no matter the situation, he always had allies.

Whether it was Silvana, Alexia, Katrin, and Osana, or not even a human but an External Artifact, Lone Blaze was perfectly suited for the role of temporary partner.

Adam smiled as he felt the needle move without his will. One of the threads came out of the flame wing and ran along his spine like a tail.

He could grab his needle again and use it as his main weapon, but then Lone Blaze would lose much of its usefulness.

The Crimson Monarch frowned for the first time in a long time. He underestimated Lone Blaze, to him, the External Artifact could not compare to a Phantom like Adam.

After all, the External Artifacts were the same artifacts only possessing a will and unique abilities. They weren’t living beings like monsters or humans, they were just a source of resources.

“Khm…” The Crimson Monarch mumbled, “This External Artifact surprises me. It’s not just the artifact though, Adam, he’s not afraid to trust an unfamiliar entity. Perhaps it would ruin him in another situation, but now it only makes him stronger.”

Then, his gaze grew colder, looking with cruelty at the bright red flames covering Adam, his needle, legs, and majestic wing.

‘I need to get rid of it. They most likely made the pact, but… I don’t need to separate them, it will be enough to exhaust them to the point of death.’

At the same moment, the dozens of monsters surrounding Adam glanced over and lashed out at him. They took a pause due to the fiery explosion, but Adam just stood in the middle of the battlefield, waiting for the monsters to make the first move – and they did.

“Hah, you think you got stronger by absorbing the Crimson Monarch’s blood?”

Step.

Adam stepped forward, his rings flashed in crimson light, the purple surge passed through his body several times.

A multitude of shadows fell over, Adam took a deep breath fully realizing what was about to happen.

The Phantoms watching him got baffled looks, especially Katrin.

‘Wait…?’ she internally muttered, ‘What are those two strange rings on his hands? Where are his gauntlets?’

She quickly had a hunch that Adam’s Nexus had changed, but she didn’t understand how it happened or when.

Crackle. Crackle. Crackle.

With a distinct crunch, cracks went down the monsters’ bodies, for a brief period, they seemed to hang in the air, but it was Adam’s blows that were too fast.

At once, a dozen monsters exploded into bloody shards, they couldn’t hold Adam back even for a second.

Even though the monsters were much stronger thanks to the Crimson Monarch’s blood, Adam only needed one punch per monster.

Without waiting for the next wave to attack him, Adam flapped his wing, heading straight for the serpent spire.

The Crimson Monarch frowned, he had made quite a few attempts to defeat and capture Adam, yet so far, nothing proved effective enough.

To win, the Crimson Monarch had to not just wound Adam but exhaust him as irregular energy would quickly heal any non-serious wounds.

Staring intently at the fiery flare flying in his direction, the Crimson Monarch nodded deeply and gripped his wrist tightly with his left hand, channeling all of his energy into one limb.

Then, all five of his fingers tensed, clenching slightly, halfway to a fist.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

Dense thunderous energy emerged from the tips of his claws, condensing into one dense orb in front of his palm.

“You’re fast, strong, and talented, but…”

The Crimson Monarch arrogantly raised his chin, looking down at Adam from top to bottom.

“The amounts of our energy are incomparable. While you are afraid of spending a single drop, I can dry up an entire lake!”

Under the majestic voice, the Crimson Monarch aimed at Adam, the red orb trembled, releasing numerous projectiles.

Each one was as fast and deadly as the first shot of the Crimson Monarch. There were a lot of them, but Adam didn’t see that as a problem, he became significantly faster as he used his Nexus.

Lightning rays reflected in his blue, wide-open eyes. Working in tandem with Lone Blaze, Adam flapped his wing, moving sharply out of their trajectory.

However, the Crimson Monarch continued to expend energy, firing more lightning rays from the orb.

‘Fine, now I’ll shift right, then left, and repeat until I reach him. Even if his energy is infinite compared to me, that doesn’t make him immortal.’

His plan worked. A second burst of projectiles flew near his shoulder, but none of the discharges struck him. A direct hit would hardly be fatal, but he had no defensive abilities, dodging was his way.

Adam narrowed his eyes, waiting for the Crimson Monarch to fire the next series of shots.

Suddenly, Lone Blaze’s worried voice boomed in his head:

‘Look out! Behind you!’

Before Adam could react, the lightning shots from the first volley crashed straight into his back.

His eyes went wide, not only from pain but also from incomprehension.

‘How…?’

Then, his eyes locked onto the shots from the second volley, they flew past the target, but halfway to the ground, changed their trajectory, heading towards Adam’s direction again.

The lighting shots were homing shots, Adam realized it too late.

‘Fuck! Quick, we have to go!’

Ignoring the pain, Adam jerked his wing, trying to fly away, yet no sooner did he make a full flap than three thunder rays slammed into his side.

A cloud of smoke soared around him, Adam’s silhouette flew away, but he struggled to control his fall. He lost his balance, spinning rapidly through the air, his speed increasing decreasing his chances of soaring midair again.

The Crimson Monarch’s eyes lowered, a new pair of shots burst from the orb, the next was in progress.

“Adam, this is your first fight in the sky. You’re just a fledgling trying to beat the eagle.”

Bam. Bam. Bam.

One by one, the rays crashed into the failing Adam, provoking explosions in the sky until he finally landed right in the center of the fortress.
