Chapter 808: Fortitude Until Dawn
The Overlord Type could make other monsters stronger and even provoke evolution. It depended on what a particular Overlord Monster was willing to sacrifice.
Energy and blood were the most common and understandable options. Blood clots were more serious measures, but… flesh and even more so body parts were the highest sacrifice the Overlord Type could make.
It wasn’t just the sacrifice itself, but the fact that the Overlord Monster could only do it a limited number of times. Blood and energy were plentiful, but body parts were not, especially when they weren’t pieces of flesh but something whole like fingers.
The Crimson Monarch was right, if the Dormant Lord and the Blind Sinner accepted his offer, they would become much stronger, perhaps approaching the Yellow Threat Level limit. Considering how much power they already have, their evolution would come very soon.
Drip. Drip. Drip.
Drops of blood, precious rubies fell to the ground one after another, soaking into the black sand.
The Crimson Monarch’s body did not regenerate, he waited for the two monsters to give their answer.
“Like I said, each will get one finger.”
The Crimson Monarch opened his palm, showing his two fingers.
“Become my servants and embark on the path of evolution. This is our duty as monsters, it is the only way you can survive before the inevitable…”
The Blind Sinner and the Dormant Lord looked at each other. They had to make a decision together, otherwise one would simply destroy the other with no equal fight.
Sure, before Adam and the Crimson Monarch appeared, they had fought vigorously, but a lot of things had changed in that time.
The other monsters hadn’t realized it yet, but the Dormant Lord and especially the Blind Sinner knew that the fortress would soon lose its main treasure.
There were only two options – either the treasure would be lost, or someone would take it, and… in the second case it wouldn’t be a monster.
Tap.
The Dormant Lord stepped forward ready to accept the Crimson Monarch’s reward. After walking a few meters, he stopped and looked at the Blind Sinner over his shoulder.
Then, the Dormant Lord extended his left arm to the side, causing a dense stream of light.
Caution was reflected in the Crimson Monarch’s eyes. It could be either an attack or a preparation for evolution.
Gradually, the light narrowed into a beam, quickly disappearing into the ground.
Silence.
No one said anything, silence fell on the serpent lands. Adam’s heart began to beat faster. In a battle against three monsters at once, his defeat was definite.
Soon, an active tremble resounded from the western side.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
The white line came from afar, hundreds of meters away was the Dormant Lord’s lair, the Crystal Gorge.
As the light reached the Dormant Lord it stopped, growing brighter and brighter just beneath his palm.
With a bright flash, a long frame in a beam of light emerged from the ground, the smooth hilt clutched firmly in the Dormant Lord’s hand.
The Blind Sinner’s eyes went wide, studying his opponent’s weapon.
A long sword with a broad gauntlet and a long hilt, instead of the usual blade there were triangular crystals one set upon the other like a narrow saw or a cruel harpoon. If such a blade plunged into flesh, the crystals would turn the flesh into mincemeat instead of a neat cut on the way back.
Due to the impressive size of the sword, its length allowed for the use of not only thrusts but also the usual slashes for such weapons.

The streams of energy were not visible, but it was obvious to the Blind Sinner that they overwhelmed the crystal sword.
Then, the Blind Sinner realized that during their entire battle, the Dormant Lord hadn’t used his real weapon.
Changing his grip, the Dormant Lord looked at the Blind Sinner once more, he nodded slightly and their frames trembled simultaneously.
Before the Crimson Monarch could react, two flashes, white and blue, appeared beside him.
The two swords were ready to cut the arrogant ruler to pieces.
Anger filled the Crimson Monarch’s face as electrical discharges rang out from him in all directions.
A split second before the swords were about to reach their target, the Dormant Lord and the Blind Sinner turned around to retreat.
None of the electrical discharges hit them.
The Crimson Monarch’s body was shaking. Anger bubbled within him like lava, his hope of understanding crumbling.
“Why? You two idiots! Why didn’t you accept my offer!!!”
His shout thundered through the dark lands. His veins swelled and his eyes filled with blood.
Then, gritting his teeth to a painful crunch, he stretched his hand forward with an open palm, his pupils trembling with rage.
“FUCK! I’m giving you another chance! The last one!!! Come here and devour my fingers! I generously grant you my power!”
However… neither the Dormant Lord nor the Blind Sinner replied anything. They just stared at the Crimson Monarch without taking any action.
Sometimes, silence was the most profound response.
Soon, pure, joyous laughter rang out from the side:
“Hahahahaha! You should see your face!”
The Crimson Monarch abruptly turned around seeing a laughing Adam. A wide smile covered his face while an active fire flared in his eyes.
“Why are you laughing?! Those monsters are just fools! They’re stupid animals who don’t understand what I’m offering them!”
Adam abruptly stopped laughing. He slowly lifted his chin, the sly smile still intact.
“Really? I think there’s nothing wrong with their heads. You just don’t understand what they want.”
The Crimson Monarch frowned heavily, clenching his fist tightly.
“What…? You’re telling me that someone like you understands monsters better than I do! Adam, that’s nonsense!”
In response, Adam only shrugged nonchalantly.
“Yeah, I don’t understand monsters, but… is there even a single monster here right now?”
The Crimson Monarch froze. He had nothing to answer.
Adam waved his hand, pointing at the Dormant Lord and the Blind Sinner.
“I see only three warriors and one ruler here. Warriors that seek power, unwilling to surrender their freedom and become a servant in the way.”
Then, Adam pointed his hand at the Crimson Monarch, at the same time his power gene came into motion.
“As you know, as long as the throne is occupied there is no way to sit on it. Therefore, prepare to defend your power the Crimson Monarch. The final chord awaits you!”
