“Why are you asking about this?” Inez asked. As she had never seen her son take an interest in the opposite gender like such in fact, she was certain that Nicolai had never even had a crush on a girl when he was a teen.

“I am just testing something,” Nicolai answered with a frown on his face. He needed to know what was the point of getting attracted to such a woman when he could have anyone. Sure she was good-looking but not to the point that he lost interest in other women.

“Testing?” Inez’s brows furrowed, she could not understand her son. So she turned to look at Kieran who sighed and said to Nicolai, “What’s the problem son, just tell us what changed your mind.”

“I did not change my mind,” Nicolai countered. “It’s my friend like I said.”

“Maybe your friend has a crush on this woman?” Zayden offered as he popped the cherry tomato from his salad in his mouth, and Nicolai almost ran his fist in his face.

“Blah f*cking Blah. I told you that there is no such thing,” Nicolai stated with a grin on his face even though he wanted to punch Zayden until he bled through his seven orifices.

“If there is no such thing then you do not need to think too much, do you?” Kieran suggested with a calm expression. “I mean your friend,” he corrected under his nephew’s glare, “You can ask your friend to stay away from this woman, and certainly, he will get better.”

“And if he can’t?” Nicolai asked. “I am asking figuratively, of course, nothing serious.”

“Then he needs to get over with whatever attraction he feels for this woman,” Kieran stated. “We can’t have your friend lose your mind over a woman now can we?”

Kieran did not want Nicolai to walk on the same path as his sister-in-law who fell in love with a man who did not love her. He tried to make Inez change her mind, but she never swayed and walked down the path that she shouldn’t have, what happened in the end? Her heart was broken by that man who cheated on her and did not feel guilty all because he thought that he was the one who suffered first.

“What are you saying, Kie?” Nadia hissed at her husband. She turned to look at Nicolai who seemed to be seriously pondering over her husband’s suggestion and said to him, “Don’t listen to your uncle, Nico. Tell your friend that he needs to take it slow, sometimes hasty decisions can end in great disaster. Let him get along with this woman for a few days and see where it brings them.”

“She is not interested in him or any other men,” Nicolai thought of how Ari strayed clear of all men and only had two men in her life. One was her friend, Danny, and the other was her brother.

There was no way he had a chance.

“All the more reason to stray clear of that woman” Kieran gave a practical suggestion at once as he bit into his steak. “Either leave her alone or get her out of your friend’s system.”

Inez and Nadia glared together at him this time.

Inez turned to look at Nicolai with a sigh. She said, “Nico, there is no need for your friend to compare himself to most men. If anything, he needs to become that one person, the woman will not be able to ignore even if she wanted.” She smiled at him and added, “Sometimes, a person needs to think with their heart rather than their head, even if everything fails, they will at least have no regrets.”

Nicolai was certain that it could be done, not that he was interested in that. Who cared if Ari was looking for someone like Noah Nelson, or if there was someone else she was looking for?

There was no way he was tempted to find out. He wasn’t crazy alright.

Ari was sitting on her bed with her head clutched in her hands. The million-dollar bills were scattered over her bed and onto the floor and the memories from last night were flooding in her head with all their might.

“If only the ground splits in half and I can jump into it. That will be great,” she thought with a groan. She couldn’t believe that she tried to jump into the ocean to find the pearls, nor could Ari believe that she actually stripped!

If that had been all, there was, Ari would have thrown the memory in the back of her head and be done with it. Who did not have a bad memory after getting drunk? Instead, she ended up asking Nicolai De Luca whether he wanted to sleep with her in exchange for the million dollars that he gave to her.

Ari covered her face with her hands and screamed shrilly. The embarrassment, the humiliation! She was certain that it was something that she wouldn’t be able to forget in ages.

“I have to return the money,” Ari muttered, there was no way she could keep this million dollars from Nicolai. Even though he denied wanting anything in return, Ari was used to taking the kindness of people for nothing.

She had been of no help to Nicolai and now that she was sober, Ari was not even going to sleep with that man. So how could she keep this money?

Though the very idea of facing Nicolai after he saw her naked, killed Ari —— she needed to bring this money back to the person to whom it belonged.

Grudgingly, Ari picked up her phone and texted Nicolai.

[Can we meet at the café?]

His response came almost instantly.

[Why?]

[I want to return the money and I apologize for the things that I did last night.]

[Shouldn’t you be thanking me for taking care of you, Pallas? Why are you apologizing?]

Ari felt her cheeks burn when she thought of the incidents from last night and decided to ignore the question that Nicolai sent her. Instead, she texted,

[I will see you in an hour, please be there to take your money.]
