Chapter 107: Lies taken as truth
The man who was responsible for collecting the information was also at a loss for words. When he found out about Ari, he only knew that the woman was kind and timid. The man held no interest in a woman who only knew how to lower her head and never fight back. All the information he collected showed that Ari had only been bullied, and she had never bullied anyone back.

Who would have expected such a woman’s hands to be covered with blood?

“It is ancient information and the woman is now better than she was as a child. This is why I——” the man tried to quibble, but Mister Fletcher was not willing to listen. He picked up the report and slapped the man on the face three times.

Twice on his cheeks and once on his head.

“You and I have stayed in this field for how long?” Mister Fletcher asked the man, who hesitated and replied, “For five years sir.”

“That’s right!” Mister Fletcher licked his lips as he raised his eyebrows while his eyes popped out of the sockets. “Five years. A very long time, isn’t it? And just because we have only threatened and not killed people it doesn’t mean that we have forgotten our old ways.”

He was reminding his people about the times when they robbed, killed and murdered people under the commands of their old gang.

“Let’s go!” He said to his men after realizing how stupid they could be. “We need to make a point in front of that woman, if she runs away then from whom will we get the money?”

The Harlow family was not rich, even though that old hag pretended to be rich she was nothing nor did she have anything in her hands. If that woman who was married to Noah Nelson ran away, then they could forget about their ten million dollars.

On the other side of the Landscape Apartments, Ari had no idea that Ariel had meticulously dug a pit for her. She finished showering and dressed up in a simple black dress that hugged her body and had ruffled sleeves. She left her wavy hair in a bun before packing away the million dollars in a small envelope.

Feeling the thickness of the stack, Ari couldn’t help but quiver. She had never seen so much money in her life and couldn’t help but complain about how unjust and unfair life could be.

If only she had been given the chance to practice medicine and surgery, she would have also earned decent money. If that happened, then she wouldn’t have to worry about a sum like ten million dollars, at least she could have slowly paid it all back,

Ari sighed.

“There is no point in lamenting the past,” she told herself before picking up her biggest bag from the wardrobe. She then stacked the envelope at the end of the bag before filling it with all sorts of things. This was to ensure that others who saw this bag would think that she was only carrying unimportant things with her.

Ari had never carried so much money with her and was really terrified at the notion of taking a million dollars out of the house.

However, she couldn’t call Nicolai to her house either. The man told her that he was busy with something today and could only take ten minutes for her.

After finding out that he was busy, Ari did not insist either. She had troubled Nicolai enough last night.

When Ari stepped out of the apartment, she locked the door and walked up to the elevator.

“Miss Ari? Are you going to work as well?” A woman dressed in a light pink sundress walked over to Ari as the two of them waited for the elevator.

“I am, what about you, Miss Arabella?” Ari asked while looking at her neighbor who stood next to her. “Have you found a job as well?”

When Arabella heard her words, she chuckled as if she had heard a joke. She said to Ari, “Of course not. My husband earns enough to pay for our expenses. I do not need to step out and work in this harsh world.”

Though she did not say it explicitly, Ari could feel that the woman was showing off to her. She smiled at the woman and remarked, “True. You are very lucky, Miss Arabella.”

Her words only brought a smile to Arabella’s face, which turned even prouder when she saw the cheap and inexpensive bag that Ari had slung on her shoulder.

She turned to look at her branded bag that cost well over two thousand dollars and turned it on the other shoulder, it was to make sure that Ari could see it even more clearly.

“You are right, I am very lucky,” said Arabella with a giddy smile on her face. “My husband just brought this S&V bag for me last night. Even though I told him that it was not necessary, he insisted saying that it would look good on me. He is such a charmer, I tell you.”

Arabella tucked her freshly dyed brunette hair behind her ear and smiled at Ari, who smiled back. Even though Ari had a good idea that Arabella most probably fought tooth and nail to get this bag from her husband, she did not make any rude remarks.

But that only provoked Arabella to taunt Ari more, as she thought that Ari was jealous of her.

She asked her, “Do you think it looks good on me?” She did not forget to bat her eyes as Arabella waited for Ari to respond.

Ari glanced at the miniature lipstick-shaped bag covered in glittering gems and then looked at Arabella, whose thick lips were so big that they seemed a bit too large on her small face.

She smiled at the woman and nodded, “Oh of course it does, it looks like it was made just for you. It’s like a perfect match, I can’t tell you.” Her eyes did not move away from those thick and unnatural lips as she praised the woman.
