Chapter 121: Be a good boy
Mister Fletcher, who was like a big bad fox in front of Ari suddenly, turned meek in front of Nicolai. His mind was a mess, and he could not form intelligible words as he looked at Nicolai.
“Y… Yours?” Mister Fletcher looked around the room, none of his underlings dared to make a move on the top dogs of Phantom. They looked at one another nervously while keeping an eye on Nicolai and the rest of the Phantoms.
It was not good for them. Even if they had the advantage of number, the underlings knew that these four were alone to deal with that, especially since they were holding guns and daggers.
Mister Fletcher also knew that he could not win against Nicolai. Unlike him, he was all about threats and waving fists. His threats could work on commoners who knew nothing, but not on Nicolai who would one day lead the Phantoms.
“I … I don’t know what you are talking about, Mister De Luca,” came Mister Fletcher’s meek response. Even though he was terrified he pulled his lips up to smile at Nicolai, he added swiftly, “How will I dare to take what is yours?”
“Are you sure? Because I am certain that you did take something from me,” Nicolai walked over to where Mister Fletcher was standing. Seeing Nicolai walk towards him, Mister Fletcher was so scared that he did not know what to do. He took a step back with each step that Nicolai took.
But as Mister Fletcher was moving back, the back of his leg was caught by the coffee table, and he ended up falling on the floor. A yelp escaped his lips as he fell on his bottom.
“Ouch!” Mister Fletcher winced. However, a shadow soon fell over him, ceasing his painful screams, he raised his head and looked at Nicolai who was staring down at him.
Mister Fletcher looked like he was about to fall apart. He wanted to plead for his life, but he knew that it would not move Nicolai.
“Mister De Luca, I don’t know where you came to hear about such things, but I dare not go against you,” Mister Fletcher gritted his teeth, a look of terror spread on his face. “No one in this city would dare to go against you, so how dare I? In fact, I look up to you and your familia, I will never do anything to offend you.” The man was short of breath as he confessed to Nicolai.
Nicolai, who stood in front of Mister Fletcher, continued to listen to the things that Mister Fletcher was saying to him. Somewhere he was bored with the repeating words, but he was enjoying the sight of the man trembling and fumbling in front of him. This was why he did not stop him.
“You took the money,” after getting his fill, Nicolai revealed the reason he came to look for Mister Fletcher. At first, Mister Fletcher did not understand what was going on and what Nicolai meant by he took the money. However, soon his face turned pale, and he started shaking like a leave in an autumn wind.
He remembered the words that Ariana spoke to him before he left with her money and then turned to look at Nicolai.
“Y….you know that w…woman?” Mister Fletcher felt as if the rug had been snatched from under his feet. How in the world did Nicolai get to know Ariana?
“Ye… Yes… Yes, I do know that woman,” Nicolai mimicked Mister Fletcher’s stuttering way of speaking and then leaned down before crouching in front of Mister Fletcher. “Now tell me what I should do. You dared to touch someone under my protection, Mister Fletcher. Was it a provocation for war? Tell me. Tell me. Tell me! I am itching for a mothefcking war right now.”
“NO!” Mister Fletcher knew that he would be in even more trouble if Nicolai went to war with his gang. He might be the leader of this territory but in fact, he was just a small leader. If the big boss found out the truth, he would shoot him dead. “Mister De Luca, I certainly have no desire to go against you or the Phantoms, please believe me.”
If he knew that the woman was related to Nicolai, he wouldn’t have even thought about making a move on her.
“Aww you won’t? That’s too boring,” Nicolai cooed as he reached his hand forward and placed it on top of Mister Fletcher’s head. His fingers threaded through the thin, straw-like hair of Mister Fletcher before he knotted the thin strands.
His actions brought a wince out of Mister Fletcher’s mouth as the man stared at Nicolai with terror written on his face.
“Mister De Luca, please let me go,” Mister Fletcher was scared out of his wits. He knew that the chances were slim, but he could not wait for his death sentence to fall. “I will return the money, I will return Miss Ariana every penny that I took. Just let me off the hook this time.”
Nicolai looked at Mister Fletcher and his lips slowly curled into a bright smile. Seeing him smile like that, Mister Fletcher thought that he was going to survive, but then he heard the man say, “Oh no, you will keep every single penny including the ones that you don’t have. I will make sure of it.”
“However, it depends on whether you can enjoy this money,” his words made Mister Fletcher shiver. He blinked at Nicolai, not knowing what he meant.
“Don’t worry, I will slowly explain to you,” Nicolai offered. He turned to look at his cousins and sister behind him before they nodded and Aiden closed the door of the VIP room such that no one would be able to run out. When the room fell into darkness with only a subtle glow of neon lights that were now flashing in the empty bar, Mister Fletcher and his underlings stiffened.
Their first instinct was to run, but the Phantoms did not give them a chance.
Nicolai tightened his hold on Mister Fletcher’s hair and stated with a short laugh, “You want money right? Then be a good boy and close your eyes.”
