Chapter 127: Pawn and King (2)
When Noah heard her words, he couldn’t bring himself to blame her. Maybe he was reading too much into it, Ariel was someone who bravely chased after the kidnappers and saved his life. If not for her, he wouldn’t have lived to tell the tale.
Thinking about the past, Noah softened his voice and said to her, “Alright, I will see you at Black Swan around two in the afternoon. Is that okay with you?”
“Then I will wait for you,” Ariel also took a step back when she saw that Noah was lowering his head. She smilingly added, “Don’t work too hard, Noah.”
Noah hummed and ended the call. However once the call ended, Ariel’s smiling face turned livid. She picked up everything that was in her hotel room and threw it on the floor. From the vases to the tissue box nothing escaped her anger.
“Damn you Ariana!” Ariel cursed while stomping on the floor. She understood better than anyone, that the only reason Noah did not question her any further was because he believed that she was his savior. If not, Ari nearly caused her to look bad in front of Noah!
No, this won’t do. She needed to send Ari away as soon as possible. If Ari remained in the Lonest City, she would be a danger to her and her future. Ariel could sense that Noah’s stance towards Ari had shifted and had softened as well. If this went on, then Ariel was afraid that the truth would come to light.
If that happened then…
“My acting career, endorsements, serials, and movies…everything will be taken away!” Ariel muttered with a wild look in her eyes. “I cannot allow that! I have to send Ari away! Only then will I have a peaceful life!”
Ariel did not feel bad or guilty when she said those words. So what if Ari had to become an old man’s woman? She would have money and comfort, at least her life would be better than it was now right? In a way, she was doing Ari a favour!
Sooner or later, that old man would die, wouldn’t all his properties fall into Ari’s hands then?
“She just needs to suffer for a few years and everyone will get what they want, it’s a win-win situation!” Ariel exclaimed with a confident expression.
If Noah knew of the disgusting thoughts that Ariel had in mind, he would have thrown until he couldn’t!
The woman whom he took as brave, fair and kind was someone willing to sell her sister to an unknown man, all for the sake of her own good life.
However, Noah had no idea what Ariel was thinking.
He drove to Nicolai’s office. As soon as he stepped out of the car which he had driven, many underlings who worked under Nicolai were stunned.
They looked at Noah again and again. However they still could not believe that Noah was in their territory, did this man not fear anything? Why was he strolling past them without showing any hint of fear?
Noah, however, did not take these underlings seriously. They were just thugs who did odd jobs under Nicolai’s order. He glanced at them with disdain before stepping inside the building.
“Boss Johannes, did you see that? That man was certainly looking down at us?” One of the underlings spoke to his team leader. He was really upset that Noah came to their territory and even looked down at them.
Their boss turned and glanced at Noah who was striding inside the building and snorted, “You don’t have to worry about him. He is just a man who thinks he is better than us just because his hands are clean of blood but in truth, he is the same.”
Noah was a ruthless businessman, he did not let go of his competitors and ruined many businesses. Just how many families lost their livelihoods when he drove the business of those small companies to nothing? Just how many women and men lost their jobs when he laid them off and made them suffer?
Just because his hands were not covered in blood, did not mean that he was any better than them.
“You are right, boss,” the underling sounded convinced. “What’s the point of getting angry at a hypocrite?”
Noah had no idea that he was being condemned by the very thugs whom he looked down on. He stepped inside the lobby of the large building that was owned by the De Lucas and walked over to the reception. His shoes clicked on the black marble floor, making light ticking noises.
He came to a stop in front of the receptionist and said to her, “I am here to meet, Mister De Luca. Please tell him that Noah Nelson is here to see him.” As he spoke, he pulled out his card and pushed it towards the receptionist for identity verification.
The receptionist was a pretty woman. With her light-brown hair tied up and brown eyes, she resembled an innocent woman, but Noah knew that the woman was far from innocent as he could notice the shape of a gun under her jacket.
“Mister Nelson, I am afraid that you do not have an appointment to meet Mister De Luca,” the receptionist stated as she tapped on the keyboard. She glanced at the screen and then turned to look at Noah. “You need to schedule an appointment before you can meet, Mister De Luca.”
They were indeed a mafia group, but they were running a legal business in this building which meant that everything happened according to rules and regulations.
Noah snorted inwardly. He was really amused that thugs like Nicolai were acting so posh and elegant as if they did not have the blood of barbarians in their veins.
He hid his contempt and stated, “I am here to see him for a critical reason. Relay it to him, if he doesn’t meet me today, then I will have to make a reason for him to come looking for me.”
His words were nothing less than a threat which did not settle well with the receptionist.
