Chapter 133: Upsetting and unruly demands
Penny strode out of the building, her head held high and chin facing up. She did not seem like a woman who had been denied permission to see the man whom she came to meet. With her green eyes that sparkled under the sunlight, she surveyed the surroundings and her eyes fell on Noah who was standing outside his car with his phone in his hand.
‘Noah Nelson? For what reason is he here?’ Penny thought with a guilty expression. Before chasing after Nicolai, she had tried to win the heart of Noah. Not only was he a man of looked like an Adonis, but he was also a sincere man who did not wh*re around with women.
His family and powerful background were just another plus one for her. However, Noah had someone else in his heart and never paid attention to her, this was why she turned her attention to Nicolai. Penny had hoped that Nicolai would accept her with open arms given that he was so candid with his s*xual life.
Unexpectedly, he ignored her as well!
“Hah! What kind of man are they? They don’t even know what is good for them,” Penny muttered angrily. She was the top socialite and the daughter of the strongest business tycoon of Xanta City. How dare these men ignore her as if she were not worth their time.
The more she thought about it, the more angry and upset she became. In the end, she could not withstand the anger and Penny took out her phone before calling her eldest brother Keon.
It took him three minutes to pick up the phone.
“Penny, is something the matter?” Keon asked. He was currently standing in his office while looking at some documents that his assistant was holding onto. His free hand was holding a pen as he read the content of the document carefully.
“Brother,” Penny cried. Her voice was a mixture of whine and anger, she stomped her feet and exclaimed, “Nico, turned me away again. I came to his office as I have two tickets for the opera show tonight, but he did not even see me!”
She wanted Keon to call Nicolai and have him learn his place. She was the sister of his best friend and the daughter of the man who ruled the business world. Even the underworld leaders had to give a face to Killian Ashford.
Yet, Nicolai did not even bat an eye whenever Penny was around.
Keon heaved a sigh. He dismissed his assistant with a wave of his hand and then ran the very hand through his rosy locks. His light violet eyes were flickering with annoyance upon hearing the words of his sister. Keon said, “Penny, I have already told you that you shouldn’t bother yourself with Nico. He is not the kind of man you think you can tame, he is someone unpredictable, even his mother doesn’t dare to say that she has full control over that bastard. So why are you even trying to get close to him?”
Keon genuinely cared for his sister. Penny was young and naive, she was chasing after Nicolai because she thought that he was different from the rest of the men she had been acquainted with, but Keon knew that Nicolai was as dangerous and as beautiful as he was.
“Brother, how can you say that!” Penny was exasperated. She rolled her eyes and then said in an annoyed tone, “You know that not many men can match up to me. It’s either Noah or Nicolai, either of these two men are worth marrying. Since Noah has someone else, why can’t I chase after Nicolai who is single?”
“I am saying this because I know that you are trying to play with fire! If you foolishly push your hands in burning flames, you will get burned, Penelope!” Keon pinched the bridge of his nose. He wanted to ask why his sister was foolish when he and his brothers were much smarter than her. “Nicolai is not someone you can hook around your pinky, what’s more, our family doesn’t care whom you marry as long as you are happy and in love.”
‘But it matters to me!’ Penny exclaimed inwardly. She was the young heiress of the Ashford family and everyone kept a close eye on her, how could she marry someone who was not worth her?
As for love? Penny scoffed. What was the use of love?
“Brother I like, Nico,” Penny said with a pout, she twirled left and right like a child with her hand crossed around her waist. She continued, “I have been chasing after him for years! Why can’t you put in a good word for me? Don’t you want your sister to marry the man she likes?”
Keon felt his head throb. He closed his eyes and then stated firmly, “Penny. I will not stop your antics, letting you visit Nicolai every day is already my limit. Do not expect me to help you any further.” Not like it was going to make a change as Nicolai never listened to anyone. The two of them might be friends but letting Penny do what she wanted was possibly where Nicolai drew the line.
After he was finished speaking, he ended the call. Keon was obviously distressed that Penny would plead with him to get Nicolai to give her the attention that she wanted. However, knowing Nicolai…he would rather give him a black eye than give in to his sister’s whims.
“Hello? Hello? Keon? Brother?” Penny was stunned when she heard the dial tone, how could he? How dare Keon end the call without giving her what she wanted?!
Penny’s expression turned vindictive as she snarled, “Fine! Let’s see how you escape when I complain to Dad.”
She then slid inside the driver seat of her sports car. However, as Penny drove out of the parking lot, Noah’s gaze fell on her side profile. His lips pursed into a thin line as he muttered, “I knew that man was not serious about Ariana.”
With Ashford’s heiress next to him, why would Nicolai pay attention to someone like Ariana who had no background?
