Chapter 134: Emotions in turmoil
Noah felt his head throb. He went to warn Ariana, but in the end, she misunderstood him. The two of them might be at odds, but he did not want her to lose her heart and body as well as her life in the hands of Nicolai De Luca.
‘This will not do, I need to speak to her again,’ Noah thought with a tired sigh. He might not care about Ariana, but eventually, the two of them were together for more than three years. It was only right for him to look out for her.
As for the ideas that Nicolai had towards Ariana, Noah’s lips pursed even more, and he felt a sharp throb in his heart. He couldn’t help but feel devastated at the idea of someone like Nicolai touching Ariana.
However, he did not think much of it. After all, Nicolai was his rival and arch-enemy. He was a man with nothing but violence in his head, so of course it was normal for Noah to feel upset.
Noah glanced at the large building and then turned his gaze away before getting in the car and driving away.
On the other side, Ariana did not have the slightest idea that Noah was coming to look for her again. At that moment, she was lying in her bedroom, on the floor.
Colours, red, black, and yellow were scattered on the floor, staining the wooden planks as Ari stared at the canvas. It was an old and cheap canvas that she had brought from the second-hand shop. At that moment, the yellowish white canvas had been covered with the three colors creating such a terrifying image that it made Ari’s heart shudder.
“What is this …what did I even create?” Ari questioned herself as she stared at the painting.
On the canvas stood a figure, tall and burly while surrounded by fiery fire. It was something that Ari had never created, usually she stuck to only birds and animals. Sporadically she would draw the sky and the valleys, but she had never drawn humans.
Not since ——
“Ugh!” Ari groaned as she covered her head and sank until she was curled up in a fetal position. She could smell the scent of blood and the taunting words, the more she sunk in the lane, the more the tendrils reached out to her.
Pulling her down and down with them until she could no longer breathe.
“No, I can’t give up now,” Ari moaned as she staggered back to her feet only to fall. Her body ached, and she could feel her eyes go blurry, Ari had no idea how she dragged her body out of the room where she had locked away all her sins and closed the door.
Somewhere beside her, she heard Timmy’s whine and tried to quirk her lips in a smile. “I am fine … Timmy,” she muttered to the poor thing as Ari looked for her phone before dialling the number that was on her speed dial.
*****
gasp!
Ari opened her eyes as she looked at the white ceiling. However, as soon as she opened her eyes, she closed them again as the white light was too glaring.
“Were you trying to kill yourself?” She heard a familiar voice and turned to look at Nicolai who was sitting next to her hospital bed. The IV drip sitting right behind him as he stared at her with his hands shoved in his pockets. “Even if you were thinking of dying, you should have paid me back first.”
“W…what?” Ari couldn’t wrap her head around what he was saying until, Nicolai stated, “You were running a fever. The last time Aiden noted down the temperature, it was 106 Fahrenheit. A bit more and you would be a goner. Don’t you know when to call for help?”
“You should be glad that I came around, Pallas. Or else you would be in a coffin and I would be in prison,” he joked.
Only then did she realize that she might have fallen sick because of the upheaval of her emotions and anger. Not to mention Ari had been stressed for more than three weeks. Ever since she divorced Noah, not a day went by where she could be at peace.
“You…why are you here?” As far as she knew, she had called Danny. So why was Nicolai here? What happened?
“You called me,” Nicolai scoffed as he raised the phone that was sitting on his lap and showed it to her. “I was in a very busy meeting when you called me, I had to leave another fifty million dollars just to get you to the hospital.”
Ari turned her head and noticed the blood on his hands and sucked in a breath. Her head swooned, and she looked sick at the sight of the dried-up blood. It was so blinding red and it smelled horrible.
Nicolai noticed the change in her complexion and quirked a brow up. He said, “I will go and wash my hands.” He knew that she did not like blood, but it seemed to him that Ari was rather terrified of it.
Once he was gone, Ari heaved a sigh of relief. She then tried to push herself off the bed and reached for her phone. Fortunately, Nicolai had brought it with him. Ari unlocked it with some slight difficulty and what she saw made her fever shoot up again.
“Mister De Luca!” She snapped as Nicolai stepped out of the bathing room, his hands held in front as water droplets fell on the floor. “Why is your number on my speed dial? I do not remember putting your number there.”
“I did it. You should thank me,” Nicolai stated as he picked up a white towel and wiped his hands on it. “With how weak that lanky boy’s muscles are, he would have given you three rib fractures and a concussion to himself. You should be glad that I picked you up and brought you here.”
Ari panted heavily as she looked at the treacherous man. He never forgot even a single opportunity to take advantage of!
