Chapter 135: The flaws in her
“But this is an infringement of my privacy,” Ari said to the man with narrowed eyes. Not only did he add his number to her phone, but Ari was certain that he took her number as well because she did not recall giving him her number. Yet, she received messages from Nicolai every day.
“The word should be thank you, but never mind, I know how shy you are,” Nicolai stated as he sat down on the bed. He glanced at her pale complexion and stated, “How are you feeling? Do you need something? Porridge? Juice? Snacks?”
Ari furrowed her brows. Why was he asking whether she wanted to eat something?
“Nico,” just as Ari was getting bewildered by his questions, Aiden pushed the door of the ward and entered. He was wearing a dark blue shirt with beige pants and a white overcoat. In his hands was a thick stack of papers. “You need to go out, I need to discuss something with Miss Ariana regarding her health.”
“Why can’t you speak in front of me?” Nicolai asked in an offended voice. He was the one who brought Ariana to the hospital, he had the right to listen to what was wrong with her.
Aiden glanced at him and questioned coldly, “Are you her husband? Brother or boyfriend? Do you have any connection to the patient?” Aiden’s questions caused Nicolai to be dumbstruck. He stared at his cousin who smiled at him cruelly and continued, “Unless you are related to the patient, I don’t think you have the right to listen to the conversation that I am going to have with her.”
Nicolai stared at Aiden, who stared back at him. It was after three minutes that Nicolai got up from the stool on which he was sitting and erupted, “Fine you win!”
After he was finished speaking he turned to look at Ariana and said to her, “This man might look gentle, but he is the scummiest of all. Don’t listen to him too much and in case he does anything just kick him——”
“I am a prestigious doctor, Nicolai! What kind of things are you telling to my patient?” Aiden glared at his cousin. He turned to look at Ariana who seemed to be a tad bit confused and stated, “He is a fool, there is no need for you to pay attention to his words.”
“I am not a fool——”
“Out of the ward, Nicolai!” Aiden sternly ordered, causing Nicolai to roll his eyes as he turned on his feet and then walked out of the room. Once he was gone and the door closed behind him, Aiden took a seat on the stool where Nicolai was sitting earlier. He then glanced at Ari before questioning, “Do you know that you have anxiety, that’s not all, you are even showing signs of depression. Were you aware of these things?”
Ari’s face turned ashen. Even though Aiden did not strip her bare, she couldn’t help but feel humiliated. All these years she had never told anyone that there was something wrong with her, the very thought of being different made her skin crawl.
However, in front of Aiden who was a professional, Ari did not dare to lie.
She nodded and said, “I have medicines to tackle my anxiety.” It was just that she did not take it. Not because Ari found it embarrassing, but because she knew that the pills did nothing apart from making her feel uncomfortable.
“I think that if you are still showing signs of panic attacks and anxiety, the medicine is not working. Not to mention, medicine can do a little when your mind is corrupted with nothing but frustration, fear and anger,” Aiden stated as he read through the records that he had collected. “The reports indicate that you ate a meal thirty-six hours ago, and you did not have a sip of water in the past twelve hours. Your blood pressure was dangerously low, and your other test results are not good either.”
Aiden then glanced at her and questioned harshly, “Is this how you want to become a doctor, Miss Ariana?”
His questions caused Ari to turn even more embarrassed.
“I don’t know what you have faced, but what I do know is that doctors need to take care of their health first and foremost. When a doctor herself is not in a better condition, how will she treat her patients?” Aiden continued without waiting for Ariana to say something. He then added subtly, “Do you not remember the doctor who was diagnosed with severe depression and yet continued with his practice, do you know what he did?”
“I do,” Ari answered. She had read the news in the newspaper a few months ago. A doctor from the Maxima hospital was diagnosed with severe depression, but he pretended to be fine and even hid his diagnosis from others. In the end? He killed three patients and himself when he reached his limits.
“Then you will understand why I am questioning your credibility,” Aiden said as he pushed his gold-rimmed glasses up on his nose. “I am not saying that you are unfit for practising medicine and surgery, but I hope that you will realize the importance of the chance that my cousin had given you and deal with this condition of yours. Don’t think that the opportunity that was handed to you came easily just because you were fortunate enough.”
“Don’t be foolish and put yourself and others in any danger. The fact that you even forgot to eat for three days is not something that you should take lightly.”
Ari flushed in shame as she nodded. “I will keep your words in mind.” She had indeed tried therapy in the past, but her mother had stopped it saying that she was embarrassing their family by meeting a doctor who treated people who were sick in the head.
‘You mean to say that you are depressed? What in the fricking frack is that? You are just lazy and guilty!’
