****************************
Her mother had roared at her when Ariana told her that there was something wrong with her mental health. Mrs Harlow strictly refused to believe that such a thing as depression even existed.
‘But I believe that there is something wrong with me,’ Ari had countered. She kept feeling that there was something really different about her.
Mrs Harlow heard her words and waved her hands. ‘That’s because you were born a murderer! There it is! But you don’t need to waste money on something like that because it’s not words that will treat you. It’s a good beating! Once you are given harsh punishment, you will realize what is good and what is not.’
‘I and your father came from an even more troubled place. We did not eat for weeks, did we ever need something so dumb as therapy? No! That’s because we were strong people with strong morals! Don’t worry, you don’t need a therapist, I am enough to straighten you up.’
Ari had tried to fight back, but Mrs. Harlow had only punished her harder if she did. Getting hit on the back of her legs became a normal thing in the house and every time Ari tried to escape, Mrs. Harlow coldly glanced at her and questioned, ‘Do you want to kill someone else? If not, stay put. The next time you want to lose your temper, yell at someone or even think of hurting them, just remember these hits.’
Later she got married and became the daughter-in-law of the Nelson family. It became even more of a taboo for Ariana to visit her therapist, if anything she couldn’t even eat her medicine for anxiety with ease because Glynn would embarrass her.
Over time she started skipping those medicines as well.
Back to the present, Ari looked at Aiden and promised, “I will get better, Doctor Aiden. Naturally, I understand the importance of human life and will never do anything to put it in jeopardy,”
“I hope that you can keep that promise, Miss Ariana. Because you are not alone, as your teacher I will be questioned as well if you make a mistake in the future,” Aiden remarked. He then walked over to the threshold of the ward, where he stopped. He turned to look at Ariana and said, “Some things are not just meant to be Miss Ariana, but there is no reason for you to give up on your life for such things. The world is a beautiful place.”
‘Was he trying to cheer me up?’ Ari thought as she watched Aiden leave the ward.
Outside the ward, Nicolai was smoking in the corridor, when Aiden saw him smoke, he furrowed his brows and walked over to where Nicolai was standing. He then reached his hand forward and snatched the cigar from Nicolai’s hand and then threw it in the trash can after extinguishing it.
“You shouldn’t smoke in the hospital’s corridors,” Aiden said to Nicolai, who turned to look at him and then leaned on the wall behind him.
“What’s wrong with her?” Nicolai asked. Though his voice was slightly hoarse because of the swig he just took, he still sounded a tad bit concerned.
Why wouldn’t he? If that woman died before he could get a taste of her, everything that he had done would be a loss!
Aiden sighed. He replied, “I already told you that I cannot relay the private information on a patient to you. Don’t worry she is not suffering from any critical illness.” He could only say this, if he did not, then Nicolai would pester him for weeks to come.
Nicolai arched a brow. He had a feeling that there was something wrong with Ariana and Aiden was hiding it from him. But he did not press Aiden, as he knew that this cousin of his was one with strong morals. Since he said that he wouldn’t divulge information about Ariana to him. He meant it.
“Fine,” Nicolai kicked his feet off the wall and then walked inside the ward.
Aiden saw his cousin walk inside and shook his head. He wanted to say something more to Nicolai, but he knew that his cousin would not listen, so he swallowed his words and walked away.
Inside the ward, Ari was sitting on the bed with a furrow on her brows. She was holding her phone tightly in her hands as if she were thinking of making a life-changing decision.
“What’s with that frown?” Nicolai asked as he strode inside the ward, he pulled the stool with his feet and then sat down. “Don’t tell me that you are thinking of deleting my number?”
“I am, who knows, maybe you might have put a tracker on me, mister De Luca?” Ari said with a fake smile. She was actually thinking of calling her previous therapist, as she did not trust anyone so easily. Her previous therapist was a good and kind old man. He knew how to make her walk out of her shell, and Ari did not want a redo of everything that she had faced earlier.
“I did not. But I did put in a GPS, I cannot let my ten million dollars canary to fly away can I?” Nicolai stated with a grin.
At first, Ari did not understand what he was saying, but soon she did. Her lips trembled a little as she said, “Te…Ten million? But I thought it was only one.”
“It was indeed one, but you see the thing Pallas? I hate sharing the most,” Nicolai drawled, with an amused glint in his eyes. “So I took over your remaining debt as well from, Mister Fletcher. Peacefully, of course, I gave him money and he handed your debts to me.”
Ari was certain that there was nothing peaceful about this man, but she had no evidence.
“Then does it mean that I need to pay those ten million dollars to you, Mister De Luca?” Ari felt the question fumble out of her lips before she could stop herself. Dear lord, what was happening to her? She wanted to avoid this man at all costs, but it seemed to her it was impossible.
